I woke with her name on my lips.
Serizawa.
The memory of her kiss still burned—soft, demanding, wrong. I pressed my fingers to my mouth, feeling for traces that weren't there.
Ren stirred beside me.
"You were dreaming," he murmured. "Moaning. I couldn't wake you."
I went still.
"What was I moaning?"
He was quiet for too long.
"Her name."

I couldn't meet his eyes at breakfast.
He didn't push. Ren never pushed. That was the worst part—his patience, his trust, his quiet certainty that I would tell him when I was ready.
I wasn't ready.
I didn't know if I'd ever be ready.
Because how could I explain that the woman stalking my dreams made me feel things I shouldn't feel? That some part of me wanted her to come back?
The gifts continued.
A robe of silk so thin it was transparent. Perfume that carried her scent—jasmine and something darker, something that made my pulse race. A letter, folded carefully, that I read three times before burning.
Little butterfly,
You taste like resistance. Like fight. Like everything I've been missing.
Tonight, I'll teach you something new.
Wear the robe.
—S
I should have burned it unread.
I didn't.
Ren found the robe before I could hide it.
He held it up. Silk pooling through his fingers. His face went pale, then red.
"What is this?"
"A gift."
"From her."
I didn't deny it.
He dropped the robe like it burned.
"Kaito." His voice cracked. "What are you doing? She's the enemy. She's planning to destroy everything we've built. And you're—" He couldn't finish.
"I'm not doing anything."
"You're keeping her gifts. You're dreaming of her. You moaned her name in your sleep." He stepped closer. "I'm not blind. I'm not stupid. Something's happening to you."
"Nothing's happening."
"Don't lie to me." His hands cupped my face. "Please. I've lost you once. I can't lose you again."
I wanted to tell him the truth.
That I didn't understand what was happening either. That every night, I told myself I wouldn't go back. That every morning, I woke wishing I had.
But the words wouldn't come.
So I just leaned into him and let him hold me.
[SYSTEM ALERT]
[REN: HEARTBROKEN BUT LOYAL]
[KAITO-HIROSHI: TORN BETWEEN SAFETY AND TEMPTATION]
[SERIZAWA'S NEXT MOVE: IMMINENT]
That night, I wore the robe.
I told myself it was strategy. That I needed to understand her, to match her game, to find weaknesses.
But when I closed my eyes and let the dream take me, I knew the truth.
I wanted to see her.
She was waiting.
The chamber was different tonight—smaller, more intimate. A single bed draped in black silk. Candles floating in midair, casting shadows that moved like living things. The scent of jasmine everywhere.
And Serizawa.
Reclining on the bed like a painting come to life. Wearing nothing but shadows and that smile.
"You wore it." Pleasure in her voice. "I wasn't sure you would."
I stood at the foot of the bed. Fighting for control.
"What do you want from me?"
"You know what I want."
"Say it."
She rose. Walked toward me with the slow, deliberate grace of a predator. Stopped close enough that I could feel the heat of her skin.
"I want to know you. Every part of you. The man who died alone. The woman who should have died young. The creature you've become." Her fingers traced my collarbone. "I want to take you apart and put you back together. I want to teach you things no one else can."
"And if I refuse?"
Her smile widened.
"You won't."
[SYSTEM ALERT]
[SERIZAWA'S PERSUASION: MAXIMUM]
[KAITO-HIROSHI'S RESISTANCE: WEAKENING]
[WARNING: CRITICAL JUNCTURE APPROACHING]
Her lips found my throat.
Soft. Warm. Wrong.
I should have pushed her away. Should have woken myself. Should have—
Her hands slid the robe from my shoulders.
I gasped.
She pulled back just enough to look at me. To watch my face as her fingers traced down my chest, my stomach, lower.
"You're so responsive," she murmured. "Does he touch you like this?"
I couldn't answer.
"Does he make you feel like you're falling? Like you're losing yourself?" Her hand paused. "I didn't think so."
"Stop."
"Do you want me to stop?"
I didn't answer.
She smiled.
"That's what I thought."
Her touch was nothing like Ren's.
Ren was warmth. Safety. Love that asked nothing in return.
Serizawa was fire. Demanding. Taking. Making me feel things I didn't have names for.
She explored my body like a scholar studying a sacred text. Found places that made me gasp. Learned the sounds I made when she touched me just there. Whispered things that made me blush and ache and hate myself for wanting more.
"You've been holding back," she breathed against my skin. "All this time, in this body, with him—you've been holding back."
"I don't—"
"Shh." Her fingers found me. "Let go. I'll catch you."
And I did.
I woke gasping.
Alone in my bed. Robe tangled around my legs. Body aching with memories that weren't dreams.
And on my pillow, a new note.
Same time tomorrow, little butterfly. I'll teach you something new.
Try not to miss me too much.
—S
I should have burned it.
I folded it carefully and hid it with the others.
Ren found me at dawn.
Sitting by the window, staring at nothing.
"You were with her again."
It wasn't a question.
I didn't deny it.
He sat beside me. Quiet for a long time.
Then: "Do you love her?"
"No."
"Do you want her?"
Longer silence.
"I don't know what I want anymore."
He nodded slowly. Like he'd expected this answer. Like he'd been preparing for it.
"I'm not going anywhere," he said finally. "Whatever this is, whatever you're feeling—I'm still here. I'll always be here."
I looked at him.
At this man who had loved her before me. Who had accepted me when I was neither of them. Who stayed even now, when I couldn't promise him anything.
"How?" I whispered.
He took my hand.
"Because you're worth it. Both of you. All of you." He squeezed. "Even the parts that scare you."
