After bidding farewell to Bruno, Ash and the group's next stop was a very troublesome place—a place filled with a unique odor.
"Ah, Gringey City definitely lives up to its reputation. The smell here is so strong. Good thing I prepared masks!"
Even with a mask on, Brock could still smell Gringey City, so he was quite proud of himself for preparing them.
"I say, Brock, what are you muttering to yourself for? Don't you want a gas mask?"
"What? A gas mask?!"
Looking at Ash and the others wearing gas masks, Brock asked strangely, "When did you guys put those on?"
"Right when you put your mask on! We called you, but you didn't respond. I came prepared for this journey, and Meowth can build small gadgets at a moment's notice."
"..." Brock suddenly felt really stupid.
Inside the sewers of Gringey City, the Team Rocket trio were preparing for their operation.
"Listen up, meow. You guys use the diving suits I prepared to go into the sewers. Then, sneak into the Pokémon Center through the sewers and steal all the Pokémon inside!"
Looking at the sewage-filled sewers... Jessie and James instinctively refused. However, their diving suits had been rigged. Thus, they could only enter the sewers with faces full of resentment. What they didn't know was that not far away from them, a group of Pokémon were secretly watching them.
"Grimer..."

"I say, Nurse Joy, what's going on with you? Sleep deprivation?"
Arriving at the Pokémon Center and seeing Nurse Joy yawning non-stop, Ash was a bit speechless. Joy rested her hand on Ash's shoulder and said helplessly, "I can't help it. Many people took a vacation these past few days, and as a result, I'm the only one on duty... yawn I'm dead tired."
Just as they were talking, the power in the Pokémon Center suddenly went out. Nurse Joy immediately reacted, saying, "Oh no! There are still many Pokémon undergoing treatment here!"
"Tch, what a pain. Suzie, Misty, you two stay here and help Nurse Joy. I'll go check out the power plant."
Suzie looked at Ash and couldn't help but ask, "Maybe it's just a tripped breaker?"
"Gringey City is different. The entire city is powered by one massive generator. There's definitely a problem with the generator right now."
"Then we'll go with you!"
"There's no need, Misty. Whatever caused the generator to stop is definitely not a small problem. Plus, there are Electric-type Pokémon at the power plant, so your Water-types would be at a disadvantage. Suzie's Vulpix is also outmatched. Rather than that, it's better if you stay here and protect the Pokémon Center. Chansey, you, Primeape, and Pidgeot stay here and help. Meowth, notify the Continental Hotel staff right now. Tell anyone with Electric-type Pokémon to come immediately to supply power to the center and protect this place. Everyone else, bring your Pokémon and come with me to the power plant."
"Understood."
Very quickly, the staff from the Continental Hotel gathered. Those with Electric-type Pokémon began supplying power to the Pokémon Center, while the others rushed to the power plant with Ash and Brock. As Ash and his group arrived at the power plant, they heard footsteps running quickly toward them.
"Hmm? Team Rocket?"
"Twerp! Quick, do something! There are so many Grimer behind us, meow!!!" Seeing Ash, Meowth reacted as if he had found a savior. Behind Team Rocket and two people who appeared to be power plant workers, a horde of Grimer was frantically charging this way.
"Holy crap! Did you clowns poke a Grimer nest?!"
"We don't know! They just kept saying something about us stealing their food!"
Hearing Meowth say this, and looking at how the Grimer were dead set on Team Rocket, Ash formed a rough guess in his mind. Still, he waved his hand and commanded, "Everyone with Ground-type and Steel-type Pokémon, attack! Kirlia, use a super wide-range Confusion attack!"

As the personnel continuously threw out Pokémon like Graveler, Onix, and Lairon, the Grimer's offensive was slowed down. Moreover, Kirlia, as the main attacker, was harvesting the Grimer with its psychic powers.
However, the number of Grimer seemed endless. Seeing this, Ash called out to Kirlia, "Kirlia, use the ultimate move, Radiant Sun! Pikachu, Ultimate Volt!"
"Kirlia!"
"Pikachu!"
Accompanied by Kirlia emitting a silver-white light that covered the sky and Pikachu's super-strong electric shock, the Grimer troops fell down in swaths. And right at this moment, the boss of the Grimer—Muk—appeared. Looking at this deep purple Muk, Ash was a bit speechless.
"Whoa. This Muk is really strong..."
Brock looked at the Muk and said, "If we defeat it, that should resolve the current problem."
"Yeah, to capture the bandits, first capture the king. Kirlia—"
Just as Ash was about to have Kirlia attack, he found that Muk had no intention of attacking. Instead, it was looking at him with teary eyes. Then, this Muk spat out a plate. Meowth translated, "Boss, he says thank you for the cake plate." Ash remembered as he looked at that plate...
"Oh, aren't you that Grimer?"
Seeing Ash recognize it, Muk nodded, then waved its hand. The Grimer beside it slowly retreated. Ash stepped forward and asked, "Why did you guys attack?"
"Muk!"
Muk glared at the Team Rocket trio, and Meowth translated, "It says Team Rocket came to steal their food."
Everyone looked at Team Rocket, utterly speechless.
