Chapter 63 - Helping Misty Catch the “Duck God”!

"Did you hear that?"

Jessie looked at the waveform displayed on the scouting machine's screen and said, "The sleep waves are coming from that city over there."

"Heh, I knew my guess was right!" Meowth said excitedly.

"Haha! As long as we capture the source and make the Boss affected by the sleep waves…" James grinned, clenching his fists as a crafty glint flashed in his eyes.

"If that strict and serious Boss falls asleep for a long time, we'll finally be able to rest!"

"We haven't had a proper break in ages! Other people work four days and get three days off—we can't even get a normal weekend!"

The two members of Team Rocket, along with their talking cat, suddenly burst into tears thinking about how long they had worked without rest.

Their Boss had really been exploiting them.

"We'll move tonight and get there before that brat does—but avoid running into him."

This time, Team Rocket had learned their lesson. They planned to act while Ash and his friends were asleep.

There was no way this mission would fail again.

In the past, Team Rocket had suffered countless setbacks and failures—and those kids were usually the reason.

But this time, they deliberately avoided them, hoping the plan would finally succeed.

The Next Morning

Early in the morning, Ash and his group headed to the department store, hoping to find some useful items.

They browsed for quite a while, from the first floor all the way to the fourth, practically searching every corner.

Unfortunately, they didn't find any particularly rare or high-quality items.

After simply restocking some supplies, they left.

After walking for a while, Ash and the others arrived in Yo-Yo Town. Tall buildings surrounded the area, and the facilities looked extremely advanced.

They stopped by the Pokémon Center to restore their Pokémon's condition before continuing their journey.

The moment they entered, they saw many trainers holding listless Pokémon, all seeking help.

Ash and his friends asked Nurse Joy about the situation. Recently, many Pokémon had become unusually lethargic. Officer Jenny had just come by with some clues—apparently they had found the source of the sleep waves.

Duck God?!

Ash suddenly noticed a yellow Pokémon nearby, holding its head with both hands and staring blankly at its surroundings.

"That Psyduck doesn't seem right either. It looks like it's constantly troubled," Nurse Joy said, describing Psyduck's symptoms.

Constantly troubled…

Ash wondered whether Officer Jenny might need help.

Not long after, Officer Jenny returned carrying a Hypno, and the Pokémon in the center gradually recovered their energy.

"That's wonderful," Nurse Joy said with a smile.

"We were able to find this Hypno so quickly thanks to the help of some helpful citizens."

Officer Jenny explained the reason behind their quick success.

"There were two people and a cat—and the cat could talk."

Team Rocket???

Ash was confused.

Team Rocket actually helped someone?

In the original storyline, Team Rocket planned to capture Hypno to hypnotize Giovanni, hoping to force him to give them a long vacation.

So why were they suddenly helping Officer Jenny instead?

Did they stop wanting a vacation?

"All the missing children have been found, and the Pokémon situation has been resolved," Officer Jenny said, letting out a sigh of relief after three days of investigation.

"Officer Jenny, where are those two people and that cat now?" Misty asked.

She had also guessed it was Team Rocket. Thinking about their past crimes, she found it impossible to believe they had done a good deed.

Maybe they tried to capture Hypno, ran into Officer Jenny by accident, and had no choice but to hand it over to avoid exposing themselves.

"They didn't leave their names. After handing Hypno to me, they just left."

"They're truly good people."

When speaking of the Team Rocket trio who had helped her, Officer Jenny genuinely believed they were good people—after all, they were a handsome man, a beautiful woman, and a cute Meowth.

What a rare sight…

Team Rocket actually received a "good person card."

After chatting for a while, Officer Jenny left.

"Strange… all the other Pokémon have recovered. Why is this Psyduck still like this?"

Nurse Joy bent down and gently stroked Psyduck's head, looking troubled.

Ash knew the reason.

Psyduck had tremendous psychic potential—its headaches were inevitable.

[Ding! New mission triggered: Guide Misty to capture Psyduck.]

Mission Rewards:

Toxic Orb ×1 (A held item. If the Pokémon holding it is not already affected by a status condition at the end of a turn, it becomes badly poisoned.)

Psyduck Training Manual

"Misty, didn't you say you wanted to catch a Water-type Pokémon?"

Ash nudged Misty with his elbow.

Come on—catch the Duck God already!

The Toxic Orb he had been trying so hard to buy was practically right in front of him.

Psyduck's strength was no joke. If Misty caught it, she'd gain a powerful partner—and Ash would get the Toxic Orb.

A win-win situation.

"I don't want it! That Psyduck looks so dumb!" Misty said with obvious disdain.

Even though Psyduck was technically one of her favorite Water-type Pokémon, she couldn't stand how silly it looked.

"Sure, it's a little dumb—but it's actually very strong," Ash persuaded.

Psyduck had enormous psychic potential. When its headaches struck, it could unleash all kinds of powerful moves.

The only problem was that it often refused to stay inside its Poké Ball and liked to pop out on its own.

Because of this "feature," Psyduck had both won and lost many battles for Misty.

And to make matters worse—it was a classic "duck that can't swim."

But if Psyduck eventually awakened its potential—or even evolved—it would become one of Misty's strongest Pokémon.

Evolution could come later.

First, catch it.

"Strong? Where?"

Psyduck moved slowly, its pupils shrinking slightly.

Three little tufts of hair stood on its head. Sometimes it clutched its head with tears in its eyes; other times it looked utterly confused, as if saying:

"Duck doesn't understand…"

Misty honestly couldn't see anything strong about it.

"Nurse Joy, could you let us take care of this Psyduck?" Brock suddenly said.

After receiving Ash's frantic hints, he pointed at Misty and added,

"This beautiful young lady will take very good care of it."

"Exactly, exactly. You can trust us," Ash chimed in.

"In that case, I'll leave it to you."

Nurse Joy had heard of Ash and his friends and trusted them.

Besides, there weren't many other options.

Psyduck couldn't be released back into the wild in its current condition. And while Nurse Joy could take care of it during quiet moments, she simply didn't have the time when the center got busy.

"You guys…!"

Psyduck seemed surprisingly cooperative. It waddled over to Misty, tilted its head, and stared at her blankly.

"Go on, catch it," Ash said with a grin.

Catch Psyduck—you might regret it for a while.

Don't catch Psyduck—you'll regret it for a lifetime.

Although Psyduck was a Water-type Pokémon that couldn't swim well and wasn't great with Water-type moves, its Psychic abilities were incredibly powerful.

Before Misty could refuse, Ash casually grabbed a Poké Ball from her belt and captured Psyduck for her.

Click!

The Poké Ball shook once… and stopped.

"Misty!"

Misty stared helplessly at the newly captured Psyduck, then glared at Ash.

"Why are you so eager for me to catch this silly-looking duck?!"
