Chapter 18 - The Dark Organization

Morning in Blackwood felt unusually quiet.

But beneath the calm surface, something was shifting.

At Blackwood City College, students moved through their routines, unaware of the growing darkness around them.

But Elena wasn't one of them.

She hadn't slept.

Not after everything that had happened.

Not after what Adrian told her.

Not after the way Ryan looked at her.

Sitting alone in the library, Elena stared at her phone.

On the screen was a photo she had taken secretly.

Ryan's notebook.

The page with the map of Blackwood.

The red circles.

And that one phrase—

"Final Phase."

"Elena."

She looked up.

Adrian stood in front of her.

Calm as ever.

Like he had been expecting her.

"You look like you found something," he said, taking a seat across from her.

Elena didn't hesitate this time.

"I want the truth."

Adrian studied her for a moment.

Then he smiled faintly.

"Careful," he said. "The truth isn't always what you expect."

Elena leaned forward.

"I know Ryan is involved. I know something is happening in this city. And I know you're connected to it."

Her voice lowered.

"So stop pretending."

Silence.

Then—

Adrian laughed softly.

Not loudly.

Not mockingly.

Just enough to send a chill down her spine.

"You're smarter than I thought," he said.

Then his expression changed.

Serious now.

Cold.

"There's an organization," Adrian said quietly.

Elena's heart skipped.

"What kind of organization?"

Adrian's eyes didn't leave hers.

"One that doesn't exist on paper."

He continued.

"They don't operate like normal groups. No names. No public records. No faces."

A pause.

Then—

"They take people."

Elena's grip tightened on the table.

"For what?"

Adrian leaned closer.

"To change them."

The same words.

Ryan's father had said the same thing.

Elena's voice dropped.

"Change them into what?"

Adrian didn't answer immediately.

Then he said—

"Something better."

Elena's expression hardened.

"That's not an answer."

Adrian leaned back slightly.

"They believe evolution shouldn't wait," he said. "That people can be… improved."

A pause.

"Enhanced."

Elena felt a chill run through her.

"This is insane…"

"Is it?" Adrian replied calmly. "Or is it just something you don't understand yet?"

She shook her head.

"And Ryan?"

Adrian's eyes darkened slightly.

"He's connected to them."

Elena's breath caught.

"How?"

Another pause.

Then—

"His family helped build it."

Silence.

Heavy.

Shocking.

Elena's mind raced.

Ryan.

His secrets.

The mansion.

The files.

"It's not possible…" she whispered.

Adrian leaned forward again.

"It is," he said quietly. "And if you stay close to him…"

A pause.

Then—

"You'll become part of it too."

Elena looked down at the table.

Her thoughts tangled.

Confused.

Uncertain.

Then slowly—

She looked back up.

"If that's true," she said, her voice steady now,

"then I need to find out for myself."

Adrian smiled again.

But this time—

There was something darker behind it.

"Be careful what you look for," he said.

"Because once you find it…"

A pause.

Then softly—

"You don't get to walk away."

Across the city, in a hidden facility beneath the surface of Blackwood…

A long corridor lit up.

Metal walls.

Cold air.

Silent footsteps.

A figure walked slowly through the hallway.

Weak.

Controlled.

And behind him, on the wall—

The symbol.

The figure stopped.

Looked up.

And for a brief moment—

His face became visible.

Aarav Verma.

But his eyes…

They weren't the same anymore. 🌑📖
