Chapter 17 - #16: Welcome to the Eredivisie

Anna Martins had to go back.

After all, she still had a lot of business in Belgium, and being away for too long wasn't good.

The mother and son's dinner was very heartwarming.

Except for two minor incidents.

First, Sean firmly denied having any relationship with Natalia, which left Anna Martins a bit disappointed.

According to Anna, she had a long chat with Natalia and felt that this beautiful girl was a very suitable candidate for a daughter-in-law.

Sean just scoffed.

Marriage?

Having seen so much in the future, Sean clearly knew that with the development of the times, modern marriage was simply a gamble.

This matter had nothing to do with what Natalia was like; Sean simply didn't want to gamble.

It's better to avoid marriage if possible.

This topic was touched upon briefly; Anna was just being whimsical and wasn't serious about wanting Sean to get married now, so she just expressed regret and let it go.

Second, Sean's phone kept ringing non-stop.

They were all calls from various agents.

Sean didn't have an agent at the moment.

The original Sean was unremarkable; although there were many Dutch football agents and agencies, few paid attention to him.

And the contract Sean signed with Ajax was just a simple template child labor contract, not very complex; he just had a lawyer review it and then signed it, so there was no need for an agent.

Thus, Sean had been without an agent until now.

But the current Sean was different; sharp-nosed agents, of course, understood that he was a big piece of meat, and they were all scrambling to sign him.

A day had passed since Sean's sudden rise to prominence, which was enough time for some resourceful individuals to get Sean's phone number.

So, Sean eventually had to turn off his phone to eat in peace.

Seeing this, Anna wanted to stay and help Sean deliberate.

After all, in modern football, professional players absolutely need an agent's assistance, and encountering the wrong person can be very detrimental.

Only after Sean promised that he would definitely consider Anna's opinion on such important matters did Anna finally feel relieved.

After dinner, Sean saw Anna off onto the train back to Belgium before he felt at ease returning home.

Overall, having a mother who cares is generally a good thing, after all~

Opening the door, Sean was surprised to find Natalia in the living room, not hiding in her room as usual, but having a late-night snack.

Natalia sat gracefully on the sofa, raising her wine glass to Sean and gesturing, "Want to have some late-night snack together?"

Honestly, her dignified posture, combined with loose loungewear that still couldn't hide her ample curves, truly made Sean's heart flutter for a moment.

However, it was already close to ten o'clock, so Sean reluctantly declined the invitation and went to bed after washing up.

There was no other way; for athletes, sleep is a top priority, no less important than diet.

Sean felt that he definitely wouldn't get ten hours of sleep today, but he couldn't possibly get less than eight hours, right? In the next few days, Sean would always encounter Natalia, and their interactions inevitably increased, making the two of them truly more and more familiar.

Time quickly came to January 20th, and the 19th League match of the 13-14 Eredivisie season officially kicked off.

Ajax hosted Eindhoven at their home ground, Cruyff Arena.

Sean, as expected, made it into the matchday squad, but unfortunately, he didn't start and could only watch from the substitutes' bench.

The match reached the 63rd minute of the second half, with the score at 0-1.

By international convention, the home team's score is listed first, followed by the away team's.

Ajax was trailing at home.

Frank de Boer stood on the sidelines, frowning, and finally looked back at the substitutes' bench again.

Sean met his gaze with burning eyes, not flinching at all: "Aren't you going to put me on at a time like this? I've warmed up several times already!"

Frank de Boer eventually waved to Sean, and Sean sprang up abruptly~

..."Ajax substitution: Number 19, Sean, replaces Number 11, Bojan."

"Wow~ Are they really going to rely on Sean to turn the tide? Isn't that a bit too reckless?"

"It's normal to rely on young players to turn the tide, but Sean hasn't played an Eredivisie match yet, and has only played one Eerste Divisie match.

His professional experience isn't just scarce; it's practically non-existent!

In a situation where they're trailing, is it really appropriate to send on such a pure newcomer?"

"Even if this newcomer just scored a big four in the Eerste Divisie, it's the same. I even doubt if he can name all his teammates on the field..."

...Bojan reluctantly came to the sidelines and perfunctorily high-fived Sean.

As a former Barça crown prince, Bojan once reached superstar status, having been pushed by the Barça hierarchy to replace Messi.

To have fallen to Ajax was already humiliating enough.

And to be the first one substituted when the team needed help?

To be replaced by a young player who had never played professional football, and a Chinese-Dutch player at that?

They don't trust me, but they trust a Chinese-Dutch player?

Heh~

F*ck!

Eerste Divisie?

What kind of professional League is the Eerste Divisie?

I wouldn't even bother playing in the Segunda División, let alone the Eerste Divisie.

What's the difference between a second-tier League and a youth League?

What's there to be proud of scoring four goals in an Eerste Divisie match?

Back in the youth League, I scored five, six, seven, eight goals in a single match!

I'll just wait and see how you play!

Bojan fumed, a belly full of anger, and plopped back into his seat.

Sean, however, couldn't be bothered with Bojan's expression.

Accompanied by thunderous applause from the crowd, Sean pushed off the ground, eagerly rushing onto the field, and soon received a pass.

Ajax midfielder Klaassen delivered a through ball.

Sean ran diagonally, turning his body to meet the ball, while also not ignoring Eindhoven's defensive midfielder, Park Ji-sung, who was rushing towards him.

Although this Korean veteran was older, he couldn't be underestimated.

While he was mostly used as a workhorse at Manchester United in his younger days, he still showed an all-around game, excelling in both offense and defense, after returning to Eindhoven.

In the first half, Eindhoven's goal was ultimately created through an attack initiated by him.

The moment Sean extended his foot to receive the ball, Park Ji-sung also timely blocked in front of Sean.

But Sean didn't stop the ball; instead, he nudged it with the flow.

The ball went through Park Ji-sung's legs and behind him, and Sean also slightly changed direction and accelerated with all his might, easily bypassing Park Ji-sung to chase the ball.

"Bang!"

Just as Sean caught up to the ball, an Eindhoven player suddenly appeared in front of him.

It was Eindhoven's right winger, Adam Maher, who had tracked back in time and vigorously stretched his leg to challenge for the ball.

Sean didn't back down, also extending his leg with all his might to try and control the ball.

The two clashed feet over the ball.

Sean lost his balance and fell, and the ball completely went out of control.

Park Ji-sung completed his turn at this moment and, coincidentally, received the ball.

Eindhoven launched another attack.

The main stand of Cruyff Arena let out a sigh of regret, followed by thunderous applause: their young player, easily dribbled past an Eindhoven veteran, so of course, he deserved some encouragement!

Adam Maher, however, leaned over and looked at Sean: "I hear they call you Stiletto? Heh heh~ Kid, welcome to the Eredivisie!"

Sean ignored him, just silently got back up...
