Kai sat at that small dining table with a faint smile still on his face. The atmosphere that had been warm and filled with soft laughter from Jun and Gilbert suddenly turned very quiet. Jun's innocent question was like a bomb that had just exploded in the middle of the room.
Jun, with his big innocent eyes, was still looking at his older sister with hope. "Which one does Big sis Daisy like more? Big bro Caleb or Big bro Kai?"
Daisy choked a little, her cheeks immediately turning red like a ripe tomato. The spoon in her hand stopped in midair. She looked left, toward Caleb who was sitting next to Gilbert.
Caleb was looking at her with a flat expression, but Kai could see a subtle tension in his jaw. Caleb was waiting. Hope was in his eyes, even though he tried to hide it.
Then Daisy looked right, toward Kai. Kai was still smiling faintly, his hand gently stroking Jun's back as if nothing was happening.
