Chapter 7 - I Want No Tomorrow or Yesterday

I get more to say~

Won't convince you to stay~

I don't wanna play no more games~

I don't want your feelings to change~

I won't hold back, feelin' myself but you call me back~

And I can't beat that, when you pull me back...

Yeah, I can't beat that, I need you by my side~

Friday night, Kai was in his room, making a list on his phone's memo pad while listening to the faint sound of a song coming from Risa's room.

What kind of song is that... I feel like I've heard that song before when I was goes on date with Arisa in my past life Kai thought as he listened to those lyrics that felt... too ambiguous. God, I hope Risa doesn't have thoughts like that... honestly, it gives me chills as her brother.

Kai sighed and continued what he was doing. He sat at his study desk, counting his allowance because he had a new hobby in this world which is reading a novels.

It had been two weeks since "Kai" lived in this world, and a few days ago, he did the unthinkable, he fix his relationship with his younger sister on this world, Risa.

She was one of the capture targets in the "game", where he himself was the villain in her route. With him getting along with Risa, there was a very high chance that Risa's route for the protagonist, "Ren" was already close.

Besides, the reason Risa's route existed was because of her bad relationship with Kai. Now that their relationship was good, that meant there was no longer any 'trigger' or reason for Ren and Risa to get involved together.

"-Big brother, what are you doing?"

Kai turned toward his door, Risa closed the door after entering, pads over to Kai, looking at what he was doing.

"What list are you making?" Risa asked, before she plopped herself sitting sideways on his lap, arm looping around his arm, and her other hand tracing idly making circles on his chest. "Mmm... I'm bored in my room."

Kai looked down, smiling at his cute adorable sister. But on the inside, he was really a bit uncomfortable... because this kind of level of affection was too much for him.

For some reason, I feel like I've committed a sin even though I haven't done anything...

Kai just gently caressed her head, his smile never leaving his face. Honestly, for Kai, this drastic change from Risa like this really caught him off guard.

He never would have guessed that just by making peace, Risa would turn into a needy sister. Maybe his sister was really awakening her bro-con feelings.

"Hmm... you haven't answered my question, what are you doing..."

"Oh... me? I'm making a list of novels I want to buy?"

Mimi's eyes, still half-lidded and cute, stared into her brother's eyes, before she snuggled, resting her cheek on his chest, feeling his gentle heartbeat.

"Nnngh... you like reading novels now? I didn't know you liked reading books other than textbooks..." She snuggled more tightly as she moved from sitting sideways to straddle him. "Hmm? You really don't seem like my "brother" at all."

Kai's hair stood on end seeing his sister's behavior. However, he remained calm. Um... Mimi was never reach this level of affection with me...

"Um... don't sit like this, people might get the wrong idea, you know."

"Eeee... I don't care, huff." She rested her head on his shoulder, humming softly, tuning a soft melody. "Hmm~"

Kai just sighed, he just hoped that Risa only admired him as just a brother.

Kai then continued his list of novels he wanted to buy on the weekend tomorrow. Honestly, in his previous life when he was "Ryan" the person who got him into reading was none other than Mimi.

They would always hunt for various stories and read them together, whether the story was trash, or even a masterpiece worthy of being remember in history books of mankinds.

"Hey. Want to come with me to the city tomorrow?" Kai looked at his snuggly sister, Risa then pulled back slightly, looking at her brother's face. "... I said want to go out tomorrow?"

Risa's face lit up as her mouth widened with a smile. "Date?! Sure we could go... it's been a long time since we've gone out together on the weekend." She hugged him tightly again. "Hehe~ I can't wait for tomorrow~"

"It's not a date, dummy... just hanging out," Kai stroked his sister's head, his fingers like combing her hair as Risa made a sound like purring, she sure seemed like a content kitten.

"Hrmm... same thing, hanging out together means it's a date..."

Risa... was she fundamentally a brocon or not? Kai don't know but she really just liked Kai's.

However, being like this was okay for Kai. After all, she was his sister, his sibling. And as the older one, of course what he had to do was set good boundaries for them so things wouldn't become more... yeah, inappropriate.

Hopefully tomorrow would be something good.

Saturday morning, a good day to go out. As young people, of course Saturday and Sunday are the most anticipated days.

Going out to play, dating, or just meeting up with people you'd promised to see during the weekdays. Weekends were perfect days.

Kai was now downtown near Brickell City Centre, he was waiting while playing on his phone, leaning against a nearby wall as he waited for Risa.

Seriously... why does she have to make things so complicated. We're siblings, living in the same place, yet she told me to go ahead and wait here.

It had been almost 40 minutes, Kai had called and texted Risa's number. However, the best response he got was, 〈On the way...〉

"On the way, my ass... it's already almost an hour..." Kai grumbled, annoyed because that little sister sure took her sweet time to dress up. Well, she mentioned she wanted to dress nicely, but seriously, it was already taking too long.

Kai looked around at the city vibe. This city was certainly very different compared to Brighton. Even though both were coastal cities, the vibe here somehow felt more "colorful." Maybe it was because this city was popular, making it more lively with tourists or so on...

Brighton is better though... not gonna lie, I miss those annoying seagulls.

Just five minutes before reaching a full hour of waiting, Kai finally saw Risa, waving at him with a smile.

Risa was wearing a white camisole as a top, and on the outside, she wore a pink off-shoulder cardigan with a layered lavender skirt. Yeah, she looked so cute wearing those kinds of clothes.

"Hehehe, big brother, sorry I took so long~" Risa's arm met and circled Kai's arm, as she leaned her head on his arm, looking up at Risa smiling with a dusty rose blush. "How do I look?"

"Cute."

"Eh? Just 'cute,' nothing else~"

God, give me a break... this girl is sure going all out toward her own brother...

Kai flicked his sister's forehead, which made her yelp and put on a pouty cute face.

"Tease your big brother one more time, and we're going home. Got it."

Risa whimpered, before she got flicked again by Kai, but more gently than before.

Kai then walked with his sister, exploring the city. The initial plan was supposed to be simple: Kai wanted to go to a bookstore. But of course, along the way, Risa dragged Kai to visit this place and that.

Until, the money that was supposed to be for buying novels... only half remained. The best he could buy was only three book titles or volumes.

But seeing his sister's smile, Kai felt it was really worth spending... well, as long as his little sister was happy and smiling.

In the end, they finally arrived at the bookstore, and as usual, the bookstore was quite quiet compared to other stores.

There were people, but compared to other places, this place was definitely quieter. There were only a few people checking the bookshelves, choosing which books to buy, and some employees at the cash register or sorting books on the shelves.

Truly the best place to spend time, plus it was cool inside because of all the AC.

"What novel do you want to buy, big brother?" Risa let go of his arm, to give her brother space to look for books.

"Hmm... I don't know..." Kai looked at the books on the shelf labeled "light romance-comedy."

There were many novels here, whether series or complete. Kai then picked up a book with an interesting title.

〈My Idiot Flat-Chested Junior〉

Seemed like an interesting story, judging from the cover and blurb. Risa, who saw her brother looking at the book in his hand, put on a slightly unimpressed face.

"Hee... I know this book, my friend read this up to volume five, and the story gets really lewd in volume 3."

God... I'm not even reading this stuff yet and already got a spoiler...

"Hee... is that so..."

"Uh-huh, later the main characters will keep having brutal sex... until they skip school and then Mmf-"

Kai covered her mouth and smiled at Risa with kind of smile that not reach his eyes. "Alright, alright. I hear it. Basically this book is the author's wet dream, right? Okay, I accept that, but please don't spoil the story."

Risa removed Kai's hand from her mouth and smiled mischievously. "Hihihi~ sorry. I know it because my friend likes reading this."

Risa then looked around to find suitable reading material for her brother, and picked up a book that made Kai shake his head. The title of the book was 〈That Time I Died and Got Reincarnated as a CEO's Wife~〉

"You know... even trashy stories are better than stories about CEOs that are way too overused."

"Hmm!? Eh! Isn't this story popular? Lots of my friends read stories like this," Risa picked up a book with a similar theme, a CEO again and she showed it to Kai. "See, how about this one? The difference is this CEO is still 21 years old."

"...A 21-year-old CEO?" Kai sighed with squinting eyes, looking not amused by it.

"Let me guess... he's definitely a genius, skipped grades, skipped 4th grade straight to college. But oddly enough... when the female character calls this 'CEO' while he's in a meeting, he cancels the meeting just to make love with the FeMC. Really... a genius, cool, flawless character can have his characterization ruined just to have sex with the FeMC."

Risa laughed hearing her brother's analytical explanation. "Hehe, they say love is blind, and come on, it's just a girl's fantasy~"

"Yeah... a wet dream fantasy that teenagers like... However, I don't blame the preferences of female readers." Kai took the two books from his sister's hands and put them back on the shelf. "Yeah... even men's novels sometimes have wet dream stories, so I won't be double-standard and hypocritical. Everyone has their own market segment."

Kai and Risa went back to looking for books again. Risa of course picked out books for her brother, which Kai of course rejected. Yeah, these two siblings really enjoyed their "date."

After much consideration and strange reading recommendations from Risa, Kai and Risa finally left the bookstore. Kai bought three volumes of a book titled, 〈Sometimes Loves, Sometimes Hates, Sometimes Lies, But Always Be Fate〉

Who knows what kind of read that was, but the premise was quite interesting: A married couple who had a bad marriage, and got divorced. However, they experienced regression, and as expected... fate would always find them no matter how much they tried to avoid each other.

Honestly, a pretty solid and interesting story to read. Kai couldn't wait to read it when they back.

"Hmm... Big brother really likes stories like that, huh," Risa asked, while circling her arm back around his as they continued walking back home. "Quite romantic... by the way, what's your type of girl you like~"

My type? I don't have a preference... However, if I just say looks don't matter, it's the heart that counts, wouldn't that be too vague?

"Hmm... my type... maybe a mature girl, with long braided hair, and wearing glasses..."

"Hee... so your type is an older girl... with long hair..."

Risa touched her hair, which was just shoulder-length bob. Kai noticed but remained silent without saying a word. He was sure if he commented further, the situation would get much worse.

"Huff... Stupid big brother." Risa pouted and snuggled against his arm.

Kai just let her be as they kept walking. Sometimes ignorance is a bliss after all.

"Kai?"

Kai turned toward the voice calling him, a young woman with glasses, long hair with a braid placed over her shoulder, eyes flickering like marbled champagne.

"Big Sister Reva?"
