Chapter 15 - Dead on Arrival

BANG!

Glass exploded behind them.

A bullet tore through the window—

and shattered against the wall.

Mira froze.

Jin grabbed her arm and yanked her toward him.

They dropped behind the wall beside the corridor.

Another window shattered nearby.

"W-what is happening?!" Mira whispered, her voice shaking.

Jin answered calmly—

"Someone is trying to kill me."

Her eyes widened.

"…What?"

Jin glanced toward the windows.

"Listen carefully."

His voice lowered.

"I need you to stay calm… and leave this building immediately."

"But—"

"Trust me."

She hesitated.

Fear was clear in her eyes.

Then—she nodded.

"…Okay."

Meanwhile—

On a rooftop across the campus—

The assassin lowered his rifle.

The corridor windows were no longer visible.

"Tch."

He slung the rifle over his shoulder—

then pulled out a pistol fitted with a silencer.

"If they won't come out…"

He started walking.

"…I'll go in."

Back in the corridor—

A system window flickered beside Jin.

[Distance: 190 meters]

He's getting closer.

Jin grabbed Mira's hand.

"We're leaving."

They ran.

Their footsteps echoed through the empty corridors.

Meanwhile — Professor Cole's Office

Cole sat behind his desk, reviewing documents.

Then—

a memory surfaced.

Jin standing in front of him earlier that day.

Calm. As always.

"You said someone entered your room?" Cole asked.

Jin nodded.

"Yes."

"Did anything go missing?"

"No."

Cole leaned back slightly.

"I'll check the security cameras and report it."

Jin said nothing.

Instead—

He placed an envelope on the desk.

Cole frowned.

Opened it.

Inside—

a recommendation letter.

From the university director.

Recommending him as Head of Faculty.

Cole slowly looked up.

Jin spoke calmly:

"I already received permission from the administration."

"Find the name."

"Keep this confidential."

The memory faded.

Back in the present—

Cole stared at the letter.

His fingers tightened slightly.

"…Who are you, Jin?"

Elsewhere—

Emily walked across campus carrying Jin's bag.

Daniel walked beside her.

He glanced at it.

"Why are you carrying his bag?"

"Jin asked me to."

"Why?"

"He left early."

Daniel nodded slowly.

Then—he smiled faintly.

"I found a restaurant yesterday."

Emily raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?"

"They make an amazing bison burger with melted cheese."

Emily grinned.

"Now you have my attention."

Back inside the building—

The assassin walked calmly through the hallway.

A dark coat.

Relaxed steps.

The pistol hidden beneath the fabric.

To everyone else—

just another student.

No one noticed.

No one looked twice.

Then—

Movement.

Jin stepped out from a side corridor.

Behind him—

Mira ran in the opposite direction.

The assassin ignored her completely.

His focus locked onto Jin.

The pistol rose slowly.

A faint smile touched his lips.

"Don't worry," he said calmly.

"It'll be quick."

For a split second—

A memory flashed through Jin's mind.

A body on the ground.

His body.

Arm severed.

Chest split open.

Blood everywhere.

Breath fading.

Death—closing in.

The memory vanished.

Jin looked at the assassin.

Calm.

"…Familiar."

The trigger pulled.

BANG.

The bullet tore through the air—

Straight toward Jin's head.

He collapsed instantly.

Blood spilled across the floor.

Silence…

fell over the corridor.
