Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: The Echo of the First Mage

The smoke from the fallen warships began to settle, but the air remained heavy with the smell of ozone and burnt metal. Ray stood on the surface of the ocean, his feet barely touching the water as he maintained a delicate mana-balance.

"Caelum," Ray muttered, his voice raspy. "Analyze that signal again. The one from space."

"Processing..." Caelum's voice was unusually quiet. "The frequency doesn't match any known Architect technology. It's ancient, Ray. It's coded in a dialect of the 'Global Script' that predates the Great Collapse."

Suddenly, the ocean beneath Ray began to glow with a deep, pulsing crimson light. The Leviathan, now free of its mechanical shell, let out a mournful cry and dove deep into the abyss.

Before Ray could follow, a hologram materialized in front of him. It wasn't the usual blue interface of the City of Science. This one was golden, flickering with the essence of pure mana.

A figure appeared—a man dressed in robes that seemed to be woven from starlight. His face was blurred, but his eyes were identical to Ray's incandescent violet ones.

"So, the seed has finally sprouted," the figure spoke. His voice didn't come from the hologram; it vibrated inside Ray's own mind. "Subject 402... or should I call you by your true name, my successor?"

Ray tightened his grip on 'Aether-Edge'. "Who are you? How do you know about the seed?"

"I am the reason this city was built, Ray. I am the reason magic was turned into math, and souls were turned into code. They think they created you in a lab, but they only found what I left behind."

The figure pointed toward the sky, where a single red star was shining brighter than the rest.

"The Central Core isn't an AI, Ray. It's a prison. And the person sitting on its throne is waiting for you to return home."

The hologram vanished as a massive energy spike hit the area. High above, the clouds parted to reveal a single, colossal eye made of shifting geometric patterns. The 'Orbital Eye' had found him.

"Ray, we have to move!" Caelum screamed. "The Eye is charging a Reality-Erasure beam!"

Ray looked at the red star, his heart hammering against his ribs. He wasn't just a lab experiment. He was part of a lineage that the City of Science had tried to erase from history.

"Let them come," Ray whispered, his violet eyes glowing with a terrifying intensity. "If they want their 'Subject' back, they'll have to burn the world to get him."
