Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Echoes of the Past

The Chronos Engine hummed with a sound that wasn't mechanical—it sounded like a choir of thousands of voices, vibrating through the very fabric of time. As Ray stepped closer to the machine, the golden tattoos on his skin synchronized with the engine's rhythm.

"This isn't just a power source, Ray," Elara whispered, her eyes reflecting the swirling golden mist of the Forbidden Sector. "It's a recording. Your father didn't just hide magic here; he hid the truth about how the world ended the first time."

Ray reached out and touched the central console. Suddenly, the holographic image of his father changed. The calm face was replaced by scenes of fire and steel—the day the mages fell and the Science City was built on their ashes.

"Ray, if you are listening, you must understand," his father's voice echoed. "The Hexagon Council isn't just ruling this city. They are trying to restart the 'Great Reset'. They want to erase everyone's memory again so they can remain gods forever. The Chronos Engine is the only thing that can stop the cycle."

Suddenly, the ground shook. A massive explosion rocked the stone dome above them.

"They found us!" Jax's voice crackled through the radio. "The Iron-Legion is using 'Deep-Earth' drills! They're coming through the ceiling!"

Ray looked up. The ancient stone was cracking. Pieces of the ceiling fell as heavy, black-armored soldiers—the Iron-Legion—began to fast-rope down into the chamber. These weren't normal soldiers; their bodies were 90% machine, designed for one purpose: to kill anything that used mana.

"Elara, get behind the Engine!" Ray commanded.

He didn't draw a sword. He didn't fire a blast. He closed his eyes and merged his mind with the Chronos Engine. "You want to reset the world? Let's see how you handle a 'Temporal Surge'!"

Ray unleashed a wave of golden-violet energy. It didn't hit the soldiers' bodies; it hit their 'Time'. In a flash, the elite soldiers' high-tech armor began to rust and crumble in seconds, as if a hundred years had passed for them in a single breath. Their weapons turned to dust before they could pull the trigger.

"The past is a weapon," Ray said, his voice cold and ancient. "And I am its master."

But as the soldiers fell, a new figure descended from the hole in the ceiling. He didn't wear armor. He wore a simple white robe, and his eyes were glowing with a terrifying, artificial white light.

It was The Architect—the true creator of the Science City.
