Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Breaking the Elevator

The waste-line disposal shaft was a vertical tunnel of chrome and laser-grids, stretching miles upward into the heart of the High City. To get to the Hexagon's research facility, they had to ride the 'Gravity-Lift'—a massive platform that moved at supersonic speeds.

"This lift is monitored by AI," Viper whispered, his voice trembling as they stepped onto the platform. "The moment we hit the mid-level, the weight-sensors will flag us. We'll be trapped in a metal box with no way out."

Ray stood in the center of the lift, his hands glowing with a soft, violet hum. "Then we don't use their sensors. We use my rules."

As the lift began its rapid ascent, a mechanical eye opened in the ceiling. Alert: Unidentified biological signatures detected. Initiating lockdown.

Suddenly, the lift screeched to a halt between the 400th and 500th floors. Heavy steel shutters slammed shut, sealing them inside. From the vents, a thick, green paralyzing gas began to hiss.

"We're dead!" Elara coughed, covering her mouth with her sleeve. "The gas is filtered with nano-tech... it shuts down the nervous system!"

Ray didn't cough. He took a deep breath, and instead of exhaling, he pulled the gas into his palms. Through a forbidden alchemy technique, he condensed the toxic clouds into a solid, glowing orb of green energy.

"You like tech?" Ray looked up at the camera. "Let's see how your systems handle a 'Mana-Viral' injection."

He slammed the green orb into the lift's control panel. The energy surged through the wires like a plague. On every floor of the High City, the monitors began to flicker. The AI's voice distorted, screaming in binary before going silent.

CRACK!

The lift's magnetic brakes shattered. But instead of falling, the platform was propelled upward by a pillar of pure violet lightning. Ray wasn't just riding the lift anymore; he was forcing it through the levels like a kinetic missile.

"Ray, we're going too fast!" Elara yelled, grabbing onto the railing.

"Good," Ray replied, his eyes blazing. "I want them to hear us coming."

The lift smashed through the final security gate of the research facility, exploding into the main hall in a shower of sparks and broken glass. As the dust settled, Ray stepped out of the wreckage, his boots crunching on the pristine white tiles.

Ahead of them stood a row of 'Elite Guard Androids', their laser-rifles humming as they aimed at Ray's head. But Ray didn't even look at them. His gaze was fixed on a large, glass chamber in the back of the room—where a glowing, blue core was being drained of its energy.

"The Nexus Core," Ray whispered. "I've found you."
