Chapter 7 - The One Who Watches

The rain had turned into a storm.

Water streamed down the broken street as thunder rolled across the dark sky. The

Bonecrawler stood in the middle of the road, its body twisted and tense like a predator ready to strike.

Kael wiped the rain from his eyes and tightened his grip on the metal pipe.

Across from him, the creature let out a deep, rumbling growl.

Daniel stood several steps behind Kael, breathing heavily.

"That thing is still moving…" he said nervously.

Kael did not respond. His attention was fixed on the monster—and the crimson system windows floating in the air.

The last message still hovered in front of him.

[Interesting.]

Kael frowned slightly.

"…So you really are watching."

Before he could think further, the Bonecrawler attacked.

The monster lunged forward with terrifying speed, its claws slashing downward.

"Shadow Step."

The world shifted into darkness.

In an instant, Kael disappeared from the monster's sight and reappeared several meters to the side.

The creature's claws struck the ground with a loud crash, cracking the pavement.

Kael moved quickly.

He ran forward and swung the metal pipe with all his strength.

CRACK!

The blow struck the monster's side.

The Bonecrawler roared in pain and turned toward him immediately.

Its tail whipped through the air.

Kael barely managed to duck.

The tail passed over his head with enough force to shatter a nearby streetlight.

Fragments of glass rained down around them.

Daniel shouted from behind, "Be careful!"

"I noticed," Kael replied dryly.

The monster crouched low, preparing to attack again.

Kael's mind raced.

Level seven.

The creature was still far stronger than him.

If he made even one mistake, he would die.

Another system window appeared.

[Skill Cooldown Complete]

Shadow Step Ready

Kael smiled slightly.

"Good timing."

The Bonecrawler rushed toward him again.

This time, Kael did not move immediately.

He waited.

Five meters.

Four.

Three.

Two—

"Shadow Step."

Darkness swallowed him once again.

When he reappeared, he was directly above the monster.

Without hesitation, he drove the metal pipe downward toward its head.

CRACK!

The pipe struck the creature's skull with a violent impact.

The Bonecrawler staggered.

But it did not fall.

Instead, it twisted its body and snapped its jaws toward Kael.

Kael jumped back just in time.

The monster's teeth slammed shut where his arm had been a moment earlier.

"Not dead yet, huh?" Kael muttered.

Daniel suddenly shouted, "Its back!"

Kael looked carefully.

Near the monster's spine, one of the bone plates had cracked from the earlier attack.

A dark wound was visible beneath it.

"That's the weak point…" Kael whispered.

The creature roared again and charged forward.

Kael took a deep breath.

This would have to end now.

"Shadow Step."

The world went black.

When Kael appeared again, he was directly behind the Bonecrawler.

He raised the metal pipe.

And with every bit of strength he had— He drove it into the cracked bone plate.

CRACK!

The metal pipe pierced deep into the wound.

The monster let out a horrifying scream.

Its body convulsed violently before collapsing onto the pavement.

The ground trembled as the creature fell.

Then…

Silence.

Only the sound of rain remained.

Kael stood there, breathing heavily.

"…Did we get it?"

A moment later, the system chimed.

[Target Eliminated]

Multiple red windows appeared at once.

[Level Up]

Level 3 → Level 5

Warm energy spread through Kael's body again.

The exhaustion faded almost instantly.

Daniel stared at him in amazement.

"You actually did it…"

Kael looked down at the monster's body.

"…We did it."

But the system had more to say.

A new message appeared slowly.

[Observation Complete]

Kael narrowed his eyes.

Then the next line appeared.

[Conclusion: User possesses high deviation potential.]

Another message followed.

[New Title Acquired]

Title: The One Who Defies

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"A title?"

The description appeared beneath it.

The One Who Defies

A player who rejects the expected path of the system.

Effects:

Slight resistance to system penalties Increased reward potential for unconventional actions

Daniel looked confused.

"What are you staring at?"

"Just my system," Kael replied.

But inside, his thoughts were racing.

The system is studying me.

It was observing his choices.

Analyzing them.

And now…

It was rewarding him for resisting it.

The crimson window flickered again.

A final message appeared.

[Observation will continue.]

Kael looked up at the dark sky.

For the first time since the system appeared…

He felt something strange.

Not fear.

Not excitement.

But the unmistakable feeling of being part of a much larger game.

And somewhere beyond the storm—

Something was watching.
