Chapter 97 - Information

He spotted her riding from afar as he positioned himself to shoot the eighth, or most likely ninth, bird that morning. The boar he had gunned down had already been taken back to the house on a wagon.

"Tired?" Gerald asked, handing him a skin of water.

Theodore shook his head and handed the gun to the stable hand that waited on him.

"I have to tend to some things." He said quietly and began walking towards her.

Something was wrong.

He could feel it…

She dismounted a good distance away from where he stood watching her and began to run towards him, nearly tripping several times in the thick layers of grass.

That was when he noticed her torn dress.

He glanced back at the party to see if anyone had seen her before removing his coat.

When she reached him, she buckled and fell to her knees, panting furiously.

He crouched down in front of her, draping his coat around her shoulders and buttoning it down at the front.

"What happened?"
