Chapter 50 - Ch50 No, I'm Not Stupid

Ch50 No, I'm Not Stupid

Meng Ci and Shen Que concealed their knives beneath their raincoats, drawing stares from several passersby along the way.

Some even deliberately passed by them.

But upon seeing their assault boat empty, they left with looks of contempt and disdain.

However, two guys in a rubber dinghy followed them the entire way.

No matter how much Meng Ci tried to take detours, he couldn't shake them off.

Their intention to intercept their assault boat was obvious.

"We're heading that way!"

Shen Que pointed toward a commercial district, its towering buildings indeed a prime spot for dealing with trouble.

"Mm."

Meng Ci turned the assault boat around, cruising at a steady pace to ensure the two rubber boats stayed in pursuit.

"Where are they?"

The two rubber boats carried five people in total.

The leader, after entering the side channel and failing to spot Meng Ci's group, spat angrily into the floodwaters.

"Didn't I tell you to keep a close watch? You can't even keep track of people! What good are you?"

"Are you looking for us?"

Meng Ci, steering the assault boat, had somehow maneuvered behind the group. His sudden voice startled them.

But what was there to fear? They had the numbers!

The leader, a man with a knife scar across his face, grinned smugly at the reappearance of the two.

"That's right. We do have business with you."

Meng Ci nodded, looking like he was easy to fool. "I'm all ears."

The scarred man assumed they were intimidated and spoke bluntly.

"You're just two people. Using such a big assault boat seems like overkill to me. Besides, you won't find anything."

"How about we make an exchange?"

"What kind of exchange?" Meng Ci looked quite interested in the deal.

The scarred man and his crew exchanged glances, their expressions brimming with confidence.

"Trade our rubber dinghy for your assault boat."

"Deal!" Meng Ci agreed instantly. As the men looked satisfied, he pointed at his own head.

"Do you think I'm mentally unstable?"

"Or do you think I'm a fool?"

"Or perhaps you're the fool who assumes everyone else is?"

The succession of insults made the scarred man's face twist into a vicious grimace. "What do you mean?"

"What do I mean?" Meng Ci snorted coldly.

"I mean I'm refusing your offer. If you can't even understand that, you really are a fool."

With that, Meng Ci drew the long knife from beneath his raincoat.

"Damn it, don't push your luck!" the scarred man cursed.

On the two rubber boats, five men simultaneously pulled out their tools.

Axes. Knives.

Meng Cl, seeing their arrogance, had expected some formidable weaponry. Instead, it was just commonplace blades and axes.

Having already endured a bloody battle, Meng Ci and Shen Que felt no fear whatsoever.

"Cut the crap. If you wanna fight, let's fight. We've got work to do!"

Meng Ci thought about the digging they still needed to do. If they didn't wrap this up quickly, they wouldn't get much done.

Then their whole trip out here would be for nothing.

The two men in the rubber boats charged forward all at once.

But being rubber boats, they relied on manual paddling and naturally couldn't match Meng Ci's speed.

Meng Ci maneuvered his assault boat, toying with the pursuers.

Just as they were about to catch up, he'd accelerate to shake them off, then slow down to let them close in again.

The five men, desperate for Meng Ci's assault boat, dared not wield their blades recklessly, fearing they might puncture the vessel.

Instead, they schemed to flip Meng Ci and Shen Que right off the boat.

Meng Ci and Shen Que, free from such concerns, steered the assault boat close to the two rubber dinghies. Shen Que thrust his blade into one of them.

With a hiss, the two men clung desperately to the raft.

"Brother He, save me!"

"I can't swim!"

The three men on the raft, seeing how ruthless Shen Que and Meng Ci were, hesitated to advance.

This was their first time attempting such a scheme. Seeing only two men-Shen Que and Meng Ci-and their assault boat, they'd seized the opportunity.

They never imagined these two would be so ruthless, truly intent on killing.

Shen Que slashed the scarred man and his accomplices multiple times across their hands and arms.

Now they dared not approach, watching helplessly as the two were swept away. "Want to try again?" Meng Ci asked.

The scarred man shook his head frantically. "No, I dare not!"

"We're leaving immediately!"

With that, the group paddled away hastily.

Meng Ci and Shen Que didn't linger, steering the assault boat northward.

After another half hour of driving, they reached their destination.

The mountain floodwater flowed down like a small stream, rushing and gurgling.

Since there was a villa district halfway up the mountain, a wide asphalt road wound its way up the slope.

Meng Ci and Shen Que stowed the rubber boat and walked up the road, searching for a suitable spot to enter the woods.

"What-"

Just as they approached a bend, Shen Que suddenly pulled Meng Ci aside. Before he could finish his sentence, Shen Que covered his mouth.

"Shh!" Shen Que silenced Meng Ci, then found a spot and pulled him into the woods.

After walking some distance into the forest, the two finally stopped.

"What is it?" Meng Ci whispered.

Shen Que said, "There are military forces on the mountain."

"What?"

Meng Ci wasn't doubting Shen Que's words; he was wondering why troops would be stationed here.

But he figured it out almost Immediately.

Since someone had reincarnated, they surely knew the importance of this mountain.

Moreover, the book described how, later when the zombies appeared, Si Chen and the others had collaborated with the government to build high walls here to defend against the undead.

Too bad about all that money spent renovating the villa.

Still, Meng Ci had no intention of abandoning the villa. His property deed was safely stored in his spatial pocket.

Even if the military camped here, they couldn't stop a legally registered resident like him from living there.

The reason Meng Ci hadn't moved into the villa complex immediately, besides seeking revenge, was the heavy rain and blizzards.

He wasn't afraid of the downpours-the villa district's drainage system was excellent-but blizzards were another story.

In just over a month, the weather turned bitterly cold. Overnight, the floodwaters outside froze solid. Soon, heavy snow began falling from the sky. Many who had survived the storms froze to death in the blizzards.

The snow piled up so thickly that the two-story villa would surely be buried beneath it.

"Then we'll just dig here," Meng Ci said.

As for his own villa, he couldn't go check on it anyway.

"Yeah."

To shorten their route, the two walked a bit further downhill before starting to dig with their knives.

Then they both burst out laughing at their own actions!

"Seriously, Shen Que, are we out of our minds or what?!"
