Chapter 2 Preparation: Starting with Selling the Family Assets
As the words faded, the space became brighter.
Meng Ci continued to observe the space.
The space was no more than a hundred square meters, and in the center stood a wooden house of a few square meters. When Meng Ci entered, he found it completely empty.
Based on years of reading experience, he thought that as the resources in the space increased, the house would also grow larger.
The ground beneath his feet was bare earth, with no water or electricity.
He wondered if other functions would be added as the space expanded.
Exiting the space, Meng Ci spent half an hour reviewing the list he had made twice.
He added some items he hadn't thought of before and then lay down on the bed.
"Mmm! This bed is so comfortable."
Meng Ci wrapped himself in the blanket, curled up, and decided he must buy several soft beds.
After sleeping on such a comfortable bed, Meng Ci declared that even in the apocalypse, he didn't want to sleep on a hard board bed anymore.
"Ring! Ring!"
"Ring! Ring!"
The phone on the bedside table rang repeatedly, but Meng Ci, who had gone to bed late the night before, didn't hear it at all.
By the time he woke up, the sun had already brightened the room.
"Ring!"
The phone rang again. Meng Ci stretched lazily before reaching for his phone. Seeing the name "Dad" on the screen, his expression darkened slightly.
Meng Ci's mother, Meng Wan, and his father, Li Shanyang, were college classmates.
Due to their excellent academic performance, they were often called by their mentors to work together.
Over time, they grew familiar with each other, and Li Shanyang began to pursue Meng Wan vigorously.
Meng Wan's father had long expressed his hope that Meng Wan would find a partner willing to marry into the Meng family.
After all, the Meng family's assets could not fall into the hands of outsiders.
Thus, when Meng Wan saw that although Li Shanyang came from a poor background, he was diligent and handsome and treated her well, she agreed to his pursuit.
After graduation, they quickly got married and, under Meng Wan's father's insistence, conceived a child—Meng Ci.
Meng Ci was destined to become the next head of the Meng family, so Meng Wan raised him strictly.
Li Shanyang, however, would occasionally sneak Meng Ci out to play and buy him unhealthy but appealing snacks.
Compared to Meng Wan, who was strict and rarely at home, Li Shanyang, who took Meng Ci out to eat and play and even picked him up from school, was someone Meng Ci was closer to from a young age.
Five years ago, Meng Wan suddenly fainted and was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer.
Meng Ci was still too young to take over, so the retired Grandfather Meng stepped in to manage the business and ensure Meng Wan could focus on her health.
Unfortunately, Meng Wan passed away three years ago.
Grandfather Meng, already elderly, also died last year due to illness.
With both heads of the Meng family gone, leaving behind a hopeless fool, Li Shanyang revealed his true colors.
One day, after returning home from high school, Meng Ci found two unfamiliar women in the house.
Li Shanyang explained that since Meng Wan had passed away and Meng Ci was still young, he needed a mother's love, so he planned to remarry.
However, he said it would depend on Meng Ci's opinion—if Meng Ci disliked it, he wouldn't proceed.
The older woman was named Zhang Lu, and there was a girl only half a year younger than Meng Ci named Li Xiaoya.
Zhang Lu was kind to Meng Ci, often cooking home-style dishes and taking him out to play.
This allowed Meng Ci to experience unprecedented maternal love, so he quickly accepted her, and the two got married.
Li Shanyang always claimed that he met Zhang Lu and her daughter by chance.
But Meng Ci, having read the book, knew that Li Xiaoya was Li Shanyang's biological daughter and Zhang Lu was his childhood sweetheart.
They had schemed against Meng Wan to become wealthy.
Over the years, Li Shanyang had provided them with financial support.
Fortunately, Meng Wan had prevented Li Shanyang from accessing the Meng family's assets.
And the will left by Meng Wan stipulated that Meng Ci could inherit only upon turning eighteen, so the family had been decent to him over the past few years.
After Meng Ci turned eighteen last month, the family started coaxing him to transfer the assets to Li Shanyang.
However, because Liang Xiu, who managed the Meng family's assets and the company, was on a business trip last month, Li Shanyang couldn't succeed.
"What do you want?" Meng Ci answered the call without any emotion.
This man was a beast in human form, and in the book, he even sold Meng Ci to others for food before Meng Ci's death.
Such a despicable person is unworthy to be a father.
Li Shanyang said cheerfully, "Xiao Ci, I heard that your Uncle Liang has returned. When are you going to transfer the contract?"
"In a couple of days. I just started school and it's been quite busy."
Meng Ci had just entered his final year of high school and was already eighteen years old. Due to the upcoming college entrance exam, he had been forced to return to school after a ten-day break in August.
"Alright, don't forget, Xiao Ci." Then Li Shanyang pretended to care about Meng Ci for a few more moments before hanging up the phone.
As soon as the call ended, another call came in.
The caller was named Liu Jie, someone Meng Ci had always liked.
However, this person knew Meng Ci's feelings and enjoyed the material benefits and money Meng Ci provided while being ambiguously involved with other female classmates.
After Li Xiaoya transferred to their school, he even turned to her for an ambiguous relationship.
Meng Ci hung up the call immediately and without hesitation added him to the blacklist.
Then, after some thought, he also blacklisted Li Shanyang.
He intended to handle the properties within the day.
As for these people, he would deal with them when the apocalypse began.
First, he called Liang Xiu to confirm a meeting at the company. After eating breakfast outside, Meng Ci arrived at the office.
Upon meeting, Meng Ci directly stated his intention to sell the company shares and dispose of the properties under his name.
Liang Xiu, upon hearing this, adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses on his nose.
"Young Master, this company is the life's work of Mr. Meng and Old Master Meng. How can you do this?"
Liang Xiu knew he had no right to criticize Meng Ci, but he had been supported by Meng Wan since childhood. After graduating from university, he worked alongside Meng Wan and Old Master Meng, knowing how much they valued the company.
If the company were to fall into others' hands, how could he face his two benefactors in the afterlife?
"Did Li Shanyang and the others say something to you again?"
When Meng Ci was still underage, they had encouraged him to ask for money from him, but Liang Xiu remembered Old Master Meng's instructions and only gave him ten thousand yuan per month.
This led to Meng Ci resenting him, stating that once he turned eighteen, he would fire him.
Meng Ci's eyes reddened as he shook his head. "No, I don't want anything to do with them."
"Uncle Liang, please help me this time."
Meng Ci hadn't prepared his words yet, but he thought that if he acted hurt by those people, Liang Xiu would surely agree.
"I want to get rid of all these things and leave the country forever."
"When I'm abroad, I'll start another company, and Uncle Liang, you can come manage it for me, okay?"
Liang Xiu had never seen the usually arrogant young master like this, assuming he had been wronged by those people.
Besides, he was only managing the company on behalf of Meng Ci. If Meng Ci wanted to sell it, then so be it.
"Young Master, do you need me to help you with the procedures for leaving the country?" Liang Xiu asked.
Hearing this, Meng Ci nodded. "Yes."
Liang Xiu was now certain that the young master truly didn't want to stay in the country.
The company had been doing well over the past two years, and many people wanted to buy it due to the passing of the two heads of the Meng family.
Meng Ci decided to sell it to the highest bidder.
As for the houses, they were bought for investment purposes and were in good locations, so they would sell quickly.
Regarding funds and stocks, Meng Ci didn't understand them, so he left everything to Liang Xiu, who was tasked with handling everything within ten days.
