Chapter 7 - The Rogue Attack

The air shifted.

Not subtly. Not slowly.

It *snapped*.

Lyra felt it before anyone spoke—the bond tightening painfully in her chest, like a warning clawing its way through her veins. Her breath hitched as a cold chill ran down her spine.

"They're close…" she whispered.

Kyle's expression darkened instantly. His body moved on instinct, stepping in front of her as if shielding her from something unseen.

Azriel's golden eyes flickered dangerously, his voice low. "How many?"

Rowan tilted his head slightly, listening—not with his ears, but with something deeper. "More than before," he muttered. "And stronger."

Lyra's heart began to race.

Rogue hunters.

They had found her.

"Stay behind us," Kyle ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument.

But Lyra didn't move.

Because something inside her—something new, something *awakening*—refused to let her just stand there and be protected.

The bond pulsed again.

Harder.

Hotter.

"They're not just here for me…" she said slowly, her voice trembling. "They know about you."

That got their attention.

Azriel's gaze snapped to hers. "That's impossible."

"Nothing about this is normal," Rowan growled.

Before anyone could say another word—

A deafening crash echoed through the mansion.

Glass shattered.

Walls trembled.

Screams erupted from somewhere below.

"They've breached the outer barrier," Kyle said sharply.

And just like that—

Everything descended into chaos.

"Stay with Rowan," Azriel said quickly, already moving toward the door.

"Like hell," Rowan snapped, grabbing his arm. "We don't split up—not now."

Kyle stepped forward, his aura flaring with dominance. "Enough. We move together. We protect her first."

Lyra's chest tightened.

Protect her.

Always protect her.

But what if she didn't want to just be protected?

What if she wanted to fight?

Another crash.

Closer this time.

Heavy footsteps thundered through the halls.

They were coming.

Lyra's breath quickened, her fingers curling at her sides as the bond surged wildly. It wasn't just fear anymore.

It was power.

Raw.

Uncontrolled.

Waiting.

"They're here," she whispered.

The door burst open.

Three figures stepped in—cloaked, masked, their presence dark and suffocating. Their eyes glowed faintly, unnatural, locked directly onto Lyra.

"There she is," one of them rasped.

"Finally."

Kyle stepped forward immediately, his voice lethal. "You shouldn't have come here."

The rogue laughed, a hollow, chilling sound. "Oh, Alpha… we didn't come for you."

His gaze shifted back to Lyra.

"We came for what she is."

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Lyra felt her pulse spike.

What she is?

Not who.

What.

Before she could react—

The rogues attacked.

Everything exploded into motion.

Kyle lunged first, his speed inhuman as he collided with one of them, sending him crashing through the wall.

Azriel followed, his movements sharp and precise, taking down another with brutal efficiency.

Rowan stayed close to Lyra, his body positioned protectively in front of her—but even he was fighting, blocking strikes, countering attacks, his amber eyes blazing.

Lyra stumbled back, her breath coming in short gasps.

This wasn't like before.

This wasn't running.

This wasn't hiding.

This was war.

And she was at the center of it.

One of the rogues broke through.

Fast.

Too fast.

He lunged straight for her.

Lyra froze.

For a split second—

Fear took over.

But then—

The bond snapped.

Power surged through her like lightning.

Her eyes widened as something inside her rose.

Not her wolf.

Not entirely.

Something… more.

"Don't touch me."

The words came out stronger than she expected.

Deeper.

Commanding.

And the rogue—

Stopped.

Mid-air.

Frozen.

The entire room went still.

Kyle, Azriel, and Rowan all turned toward her in shock.

Lyra stared at her own hands, her heart pounding violently.

"I… I didn't—"

The rogue let out a strangled sound, his body trembling as if being crushed by an invisible force.

Lyra's breath hitched.

She could feel it.

Feel him.

Feel the control.

And then—

With a sharp gasp—

She released it.

The rogue dropped to the ground, unconscious.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Unbelievable.

All three Alphas were staring at her now.

Not with confusion.

Not with doubt.

But with something far more dangerous.

Realization.

Rowan was the first to speak, his voice low, almost disbelieving.

"…What the hell are you?"

Lyra swallowed hard, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

This time—

She didn't ask the question.

Because deep down…

She was starting to understand.

And whatever she was becoming—

It wasn't just powerful.

It was something the world would fear.
