Chapter 6 - THE ARRIVAL OF VISHVAMITRA

Chapter 6: The Arrival of Vishvamitra

The sun rose over Ayodhya, bathing the magnificent city in golden light. Merchants opened their shops, priests offered prayers in temples, and the people began another peaceful day under the rule of King Dasharatha.

Within the royal palace, the four princes continued their training. Rama and Lakshmana practiced archery, while Bharata and Shatrughna studied matters of governance. The future of the kingdom appeared bright.

Yet on that very day, destiny arrived at the gates of Ayodhya.

A great sage was approaching.

His name was Vishvamitra.

Once a mighty king, Vishvamitra had abandoned worldly power and dedicated his life to intense penance and spiritual discipline. Through years of sacrifice and meditation, he had attained immense wisdom and divine strength. Even the gods respected him.

As news of the sage's arrival spread through the city, excitement filled the royal court.

King Dasharatha personally came forward to welcome him.

The sage entered the court with a calm and majestic presence. His matted hair rested upon his shoulders, his eyes shone with spiritual brilliance, and his face reflected the strength of countless years of meditation.

Dasharatha immediately rose from his throne and bowed respectfully.

"Blessed is Ayodhya today," said the king. "The arrival of a great sage brings fortune to my kingdom. Please command me. Whatever you desire shall be granted."

Vishvamitra smiled.

"O King, your words honor the traditions of your noble lineage. I have come seeking your help."

Dasharatha listened attentively.

The sage continued.

"In the forests where I perform sacred yajnas, terrible Rakshasas repeatedly disturb our rituals. They throw flesh and blood into the sacred fires and spread fear among the sages. Their leader is the fierce demoness Tataka, and others follow her command."

The court fell silent.

"For the protection of Dharma," Vishvamitra said, "I request that you send your son Rama with me. He alone can defeat these evil forces."

The words struck Dasharatha like a thunderbolt.

Rama?

His beloved son?

The prince was still young.

The king's face grew pale.

"Great Sage," Dasharatha replied nervously, "Rama is but a youth. He has not yet faced such dangerous enemies. Allow me instead to send my armies. I shall personally lead them if necessary."

But Vishvamitra shook his head.

"No army is required. Rama alone is destined to accomplish this task."

Dasharatha's heart filled with fear.

He could not bear the thought of sending his son into danger.

For a moment, the king hesitated.

The atmosphere in the court grew tense.

Then Sage Vashistha, the royal guru, stepped forward.

"Your Majesty," he said calmly, "do not doubt the words of Vishvamitra. This great sage sees what ordinary men cannot. Rama's destiny extends far beyond the walls of Ayodhya. Let him go. Under Vishvamitra's guidance, no harm shall come to him."

The wisdom of Vashistha carried great weight.

Slowly, Dasharatha realized that destiny could not be resisted.

With a heavy heart, he agreed.

The king summoned Rama to the royal court.

The young prince entered with Lakshmana beside him.

Both brothers bowed respectfully before the sages and their father.

Vishvamitra looked upon Rama and immediately recognized the extraordinary greatness hidden within him.

"Rama," the sage said, "will you accompany me to protect righteousness and defend the innocent?"

Without hesitation, Rama folded his hands.

"It is my duty to serve Dharma. I shall gladly go."

Lakshmana stepped forward at once.

"Where Rama goes, I shall follow."

A smile appeared on Vishvamitra's face.

The journey had begun.

The next morning, the people of Ayodhya gathered to watch the departure of the princes.

King Dasharatha embraced his sons.

Queen Kausalya offered prayers for Rama's safety.

The royal family struggled to hide their emotions.

Yet Rama remained calm.

With bows upon their shoulders and determination in their hearts, Rama and Lakshmana followed Vishvamitra beyond the gates of Ayodhya.

For the first time in their lives, the princes left the comfort of the palace and entered the vast unknown.

Ahead lay dangerous forests, powerful demons, and challenges that would test their courage.

But hidden within those challenges awaited the first steps toward their destiny.

The age of Rama had truly begun.
