Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: The Mercy Offered

Even dissolving, Vey retained structure enough to offer. The offer was the Covenant's final temptation, the system's last attempt at continuation, the cultivation's ultimate trap: preservation of experience without its completion, the Kanjo as stasis rather than transformation.

"I can stop," Vey projected, the thought barely coherent, the resonance barely carrying. "I can preserve this moment. I can make it last. Not living. Not ending. Held."

The offer was genuine. Vey's compassion, their desire to spare Sorine the final severance, their love translated into suspension. They could maintain the thinning, prevent the dissolution, hold the moment of maximum Kanjo indefinitely. They would not be alive. They would not be dead. They would be... documented. Preserved. Harvested into eternal present.

Sorine refused.

"We have documented enough. What remains is not for record."

The refusal was the final evolution of her Shugiin. Not opening paths for traversal, but keeping them open for ending. Not maintaining possibility, but completing actuality. Not preserving the space between, but allowing it to collapse into the touch that was also severance.

Vey received the refusal as gift. They had offered continuation because they could not hope for ending. Sorine's refusal gave them permission to complete what they had begun. The mercy was not in preservation. It was in release.

The dissolution resumed. The thinning continued. The ending proceeded.
