Chapter 47 - No More Running Blind

The car didn't stop for a long time.

Not at signals.

Not for traffic.

Not for anything unnecessary.

Daniel kept glancing at the rearview mirror.

Again.

And again.

Emily noticed.

"Are they following us?" she asked quietly.

Daniel didn't answer immediately.

"Not directly," he said after a moment.

"But that doesn't mean they don't know where we're going."

That didn't make her feel better.

Noah leaned against her.

Quiet.

Watching everything through the window.

"Where are we going?" he asked again.

Daniel finally turned slightly.

"To someone who can help."

Emily frowned.

"Someone you trust?"

Daniel hesitated.

Then said—

"Someone who owes me."

That answer—

Wasn't comforting.

But right now—

It was enough.

The car turned into a narrower road.

Less crowded.

More isolated.

Buildings older.

Quieter.

Finally—

It stopped in front of a small, worn-out building.

Daniel looked outside carefully.

"We're here."

Emily glanced at the place.

"This doesn't look safe."

Daniel gave a faint, dry smile.

"It's not supposed to."

They stepped out.

Noah stayed close.

Holding Emily's hand tightly.

Daniel led them inside.

The hallway was dim.

The air slightly heavy.

He stopped in front of a door.

Knocked twice.

Paused.

Then once more.

A pattern.

The door opened.

A man stood there.

Sharp eyes.

Tired face.

He looked at Daniel.

"…You took your time."

Daniel exhaled.

"Good to see you too."

The man's eyes shifted.

To Emily.

To Noah.

"You brought company," he said.

Daniel stepped inside.

"I didn't have a choice."

The man stepped aside.

Letting them in.

"Close the door," he muttered.

Inside—

The room was small.

But organized.

Screens.

Wires.

Devices.

Emily immediately understood.

"He's tech," she whispered.

Daniel nodded slightly.

"The best I know."

The man crossed his arms.

"Start talking," he said.

Daniel didn't waste time.

"We have something."

The man raised an eyebrow.

"That usually means trouble."

Daniel pulled out the drive.

"This kind of trouble."

The man's expression changed instantly.

He stepped closer.

"…Where did you get that?"

Daniel glanced at Emily.

"She did."

The man looked at her now.

Carefully.

"You have no idea what you're holding, do you?"

Emily met his gaze.

"I'm starting to."

The man took the drive slowly.

Almost like it was fragile.

Or dangerous.

"Sit," he said.

They did.

Noah stayed close to Emily.

Silent.

The man plugged the drive into his system.

Multiple screens lit up.

Lines of code.

Files opening.

Scanning.

His expression grew more serious with each second.

"Yeah…" he muttered.

"This is bad."

Daniel crossed his arms.

"How bad?"

The man looked at him.

"Bad enough that you shouldn't have brought this here."

Emily's chest tightened.

"Then why are we here?" she asked.

The man didn't answer immediately.

Then said—

"Because now that you have… you're part of it."

Silence.

Heavy.

He clicked through more files.

Then stopped.

"…Oh."

That one word—

Changed everything.

Daniel stepped closer.

"What?"

The man turned the screen slightly.

"Look."

Emily leaned in.

And froze.

Because this time—

It wasn't just names.

It was something else.

Images.

Records.

Connections.

And one file—

Highlighted.

Daniel's expression darkened.

"I know that symbol," he said.

Emily looked at him.

"What is it?"

Daniel didn't answer immediately.

Then said—

"It's not just a group."

A pause.

"It's an organization."

The man nodded.

"Yeah."

He turned back to the screen.

"And you two just walked straight into the middle of it."

Noah looked between them.

"What does that mean?" he asked softly.

Emily pulled him closer.

"It means we need to be careful."

Daniel stared at the screen.

Thinking.

Calculating.

"No," he said quietly.

Emily looked at him.

"What?"

Daniel's voice hardened.

"It means we stop reacting… and start fighting back."

The room fell silent again.

Because that—

Was a different kind of decision.

Not escape.

Not hiding.

But facing it.

The man looked at Daniel.

"You sure you want to go that route?"

Daniel didn't look away.

"They brought this to us."

Emily watched him.

And for the first time—

She saw it clearly.

He wasn't just protecting anymore.

He was preparing.

Because this wasn't just about surviving now.

It was about ending something.

And that meant—

Things were about to get even more dangerous.
