The next morning arrived quietly over the small town.
Soft sunlight spread across the streets, touching the rooftops and the windows of the old houses. Birds chirped in the trees near the town square, and the familiar sound of the clock tower rang through the air.
Emily stood by the window of her childhood bedroom.
She hadn't slept much.
Daniel's face kept appearing in her mind. The way he looked at her last night… the questions in his eyes… the hope he didn't try to hide.
Today she had promised to tell him the truth.
But the truth was complicated.
Emily sighed and looked down at the street below. People were beginning their day, walking to work or opening their shops.
Everything seemed so normal.
Yet inside her heart, a storm was quietly growing.
Behind her, the bedroom door slowly opened.
"Emily?" a weak voice called.
Emily quickly turned around.
"Mom."
Her mother stood at the doorway, holding the wall for support. She looked tired but smiled warmly.
"You're awake early," her mother said.
Emily walked toward her and helped her sit on the bed.
"I couldn't sleep," Emily admitted.
Her mother looked at her carefully.
"Is it because you met Daniel again?"
Emily froze for a moment.
"You already know?" she asked.
Her mother chuckled softly.
"This is a small town, dear. News travels fast."
Emily sat beside her.
"Yes… I saw him yesterday."
Her mother nodded slowly.
"And how was it?"
Emily thought about the moment on the bridge… the conversation… the unfinished truth.
"It was… complicated."
Her mother smiled gently.
"Some feelings never really disappear."
Emily looked down at her hands.
"I'm meeting him again today."
Her mother's expression grew thoughtful.
"Are you going to tell him everything?"
Emily hesitated.
"That's the plan."
Her mother gently placed her hand over Emily's.
"Secrets have a way of becoming heavier over time," she said. "Sometimes telling the truth is the only way to move forward."
Emily nodded slowly.
"I know."
A few hours later…
Daniel stood outside a small café near the town square, checking the time on his phone.
Emily had asked him to meet here at noon.
He wasn't sure why, but he felt strangely nervous.
After all these years, something important was about to be revealed.
And whatever Emily was about to tell him…
…could change the future of their story forever.
Just as Daniel looked up from his phone, he saw someone walking toward the café.
It was Emily.
But she wasn't alone.
A small boy, no older than six, walked beside her holding her hand.
Daniel's heart suddenly stopped.
He stared at them in shock.
Because the boy looked up at him…
…and smiled.
