Chapter 3 - The First Cats

Ethan nodded excitedly. A smile appeared on his face. He was excited to see how everything worked. It even made him forget about his new form as a Cat… just for a moment.

"Understood. So how do I purchase or unlock my first Cat if all the other options aren't available?"

It turned out that XP and Cents from the game had seemingly been replaced by Coins in this world. Ethan didn't mind at all.

[You first have to place your Cat Base down in your desired location. Please find an area you deem suitable for your base and say "deploy Cat Base" when you're ready to place it.]

Ethan looked around the damp cave after reading the screen. He assumed that the Cat Base would look just like the one from the game.

"Not sure if this would be the best place to live, but I don't wanna risk going outside by myself. Who knows what's out there…"

Ethan pondered for a few minutes before deciding to place the Cat Base in the cave.

He slowly got up and stumbled a bit as he attempted to adjust to his new Cat body. He had never walked on four legs so he found it difficult of course.

After balancing himself, Ethan slowly walked to the very end of the cave and looked at the wall furthest from the cave's entrance.

"Deploy Cat Base."

Ethan fell back as the cave started to shake. It sounded like the place was about to collapse right on top of him but only a few chunks of stone fell here and there as the shaking and loud noises of crumbling continued.

After about a full minute of shaking, Ethan spotted a hole being made at the wall he was previously looking at. It seemed to be in the shape of some sort of entrance, with the hole being two meters in both height and width.

It was then that Ethan noticed the face of Cat, the unit who he transformed into, was being formed above the hole. It had the same white and black face with the same silly smile as Cat, along with a pair of pointed ears.

He couldn't exactly tell what was past the new hole thanks to the continued shaking. It felt like forever but it finally stopped after another minute.

"Holy hell, that felt like an earthquake! But nothing seems to be damaged so that's good. Just some chunks of stone fell it seems like."

Ethan slowly stood back up and frowned slightly. His perfect white skin now had bits of dirt and grime on it. Worst of all, his legs couldn't reach those places on his body to wipe it all off.

"Whatever, let's just check this out…"

Ethan looked around in shock after he entered the newly formed hole in the wall.

It was a room. The room's shape was circular. There was a small bed made of hay sitting at the other end of the room across from the entrance. It was simple but looked comfy enough.

On the left side, there were multiple large shelves lining the wall. There seemed to be a few dozen of what Ethan assumed are fruits sitting on one of the bottom shelves. He didn't recognize the fruits from Earth so he wasn't certain if they were actual fruits.

On the right, was a large tank in the wall that seemed to be filled with water. It looked just like the Cat Storage from the game where Cats that players haven't used would float around in. It currently didn't have any Cats inside.

Lastly, in the dead center of the room, was a strange Cat face floating there. It looked just like the Cat face above the Cat Base's entrance, except this one was red and shined like some sort of beautiful crystal.

[Congratulations on unlocking the Cat base! More options have been unlocked and are now available in the menu. Please open the Shop to see what Cat units can currently be bought.]

Ethan did as he was told while still admiring the dazzling red Cat face. He opened the menu and saw that [Shop] was now bright. He thought of opening it and it did so.

[Normal Cats:

Cat- 50 Coins]

That's all there was in the Shop.

Ethan wasn't very surprised since people only have the normal Cat at the start of the game.

"Guess I just say how many I want? Hmm… purchase 4 Cats"

A ding then resounded in Ethan's head. A screen popped up and showed his two-hundred Coins rapidly dropping down to zero.

"Maybe it wasn't the smartest choice to spend all my Coins right away, but oh well."

[You have purchased 4 Cats! They have been added to your Storage. When you want to summon them, please touch the red Cat face in the middle of the room and simply think of the Cats you want to summon.]

Ethan nodded as he looked to the right and stared at the tank in interest. Four Cats were now floating in the large tank. They seemed to all look exactly like him, except they weren't dirty.

"I can't believe this is happening… am I really about to have my own Cat units to command?"

Ethan asked himself in amazement. He was constantly being more and more shocked by the things going on. And he didn't even question what people would think about his disappearance back on earth.

"No time to think about that! Let's summons these guys."

Ethan smiled and quickly placed his two front legs against the red Cat face.

"Summon all 4 Cat units!"

The Cats in the tank spun around wildly before vanishing.

The mouth of the red Cat face suddenly opened wide. It let out a loud meow before four balls of light shot out of its mouth and landed on the ground in front of it.

The balls of light grew and formed into a new shapes, as if their bodies were being formed. The balls of light soon stopped glowing and revealed four Cats all standing there.

The Cats had a mixture of very similar facial expressions, all seeming to be happy or at least in a good mood.

Ethan took his legs off the Cat face and looked at the new Cats in amazement. He backed away from them to get a better look.

"Holy hell… they look just like me and the Cat unit from the game! This is insane…"

Ethan kept looking at his new group of companions. But he then jumped backwards in confusion as all four of the Cats meowed and bowed slightly as they all spoke in unison.

"Greetings, leader!"
