Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Beneath the Same Moon

The night had grown deeper.

The crowd that once filled the sacred clearing slowly disappeared, their whispers fading into the forest like restless spirits carried by the wind. Yet the moon remained—bright, silent, and watchful—hanging above the valley as if guarding the girl it had chosen.

Aria stood alone near the Moon Altar.

The glowing mark on her wrist pulsed softly, like a small heartbeat made of silver light.

She touched it carefully.

It felt warm.

Real.

But everything about tonight still felt like a dream she might wake from at any moment.

"A mark does not create destiny."

The deep voice behind her made her jump.

She turned quickly.

Alpha Kael stood a few steps away, his tall figure half hidden by the shadows of the ancient trees. The moonlight brushed across his sharp features, making his silver eyes glow like quiet stars.

Aria lowered her gaze respectfully.

"Alpha."

Kael walked closer, his boots crunching softly against the gravel.

"For years," he said slowly, "wolves in this pack believed you were weak."

His eyes moved to the glowing crescent on her wrist.

"And yet the moon saw something they did not."

Aria looked down again.

"I don't feel powerful," she admitted softly.

Kael studied her carefully, as though searching for something hidden beneath her quiet words.

"Strength is rarely loud," he replied. "Sometimes it waits patiently until the world forces it to rise."

The wind moved gently through the trees.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Then Aria asked the question that had been sitting heavily in her chest.

"Why did you save me?"

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"You think I did it out of kindness?"

His voice carried the faintest hint of amusement.

"I thought you didn't believe in destiny," she said.

"I don't."

"Then why protect the girl destiny chose?"

Kael's gaze drifted toward the moon.

For a brief moment, something thoughtful crossed his face.

"When a storm approaches," he said slowly, "a wise leader studies the clouds instead of ignoring them."

Aria frowned slightly.

"I'm the storm?"

"Perhaps."

He looked back at her.

"Or perhaps you're the calm before it."

Aria didn't know whether to feel comforted or more afraid.

The forest around them suddenly grew quieter.

Too quiet.

Kael noticed it instantly.

His body stiffened slightly.

"Stay behind me," he said.

Aria blinked.

"What?"

But before she could ask another question—

A branch snapped somewhere in the darkness.

Kael's silver eyes sharpened.

The warriors guarding the clearing were suddenly alert.

Then a low growl echoed from the trees.

Another.

And another.

Shadows moved between the trunks.

Aria's heart began pounding.

"What is that?" she whispered.

Kael's expression hardened.

"Not wolves from this pack."

Figures slowly stepped out of the forest.

Six warriors.

Strangers.

Their cloaks carried the red wolf symbol of the Blood Fang Clan.

Aria felt her stomach drop.

They had come back.

One of the assassins smiled coldly.

"The contract wasn't finished," he said calmly.

Kael stepped forward slightly, placing himself fully between them and Aria.

"You dare step onto my territory?"

The assassin shrugged.

"Power attracts attention, Alpha."

His eyes flicked toward Aria's glowing wrist.

"And the Moon Vessel is worth far more than the price already paid."

Aria's breath caught.

Moon Vessel.

The word sounded heavier now.

More dangerous.

Kael's voice dropped to a quiet warning.

"Leave."

The assassins laughed.

"There are six of us."

Kael didn't smile.

"You should have brought more."

For a moment the forest held its breath.

Then the assassins attacked.

Steel flashed under the moonlight.

Aria barely saw Kael move.

One second he stood still.

The next he was already in front of the first attacker.

The clash was fast.

Violent.

Terrifying.

Aria stumbled backward as the fight exploded around her.

She had never seen power like this before.

Kael moved like a storm unleashed—swift, controlled, unstoppable.

Within moments two assassins were already on the ground.

The others hesitated.

One of them looked at Aria again.

Something dark crossed his face.

"So the rumors are true," he muttered.

Aria froze.

"What rumors?"

But the man only smiled coldly.

"The Moon Vessel awakens only when the werewolf world is about to change."

Kael's voice cut through the clearing like thunder.

"Enough talking."

His eyes burned dangerously.

"Run."

The assassins quickly retreated into the forest, disappearing between the trees.

Silence returned once again.

But it felt different now.

Heavier.

Aria's hands trembled.

"Why did they say that?" she asked quietly.

Kael wiped a small drop of blood from his knuckles.

His gaze shifted to the glowing mark on her wrist.

"The Moon Vessel appears when the balance of the werewolf world is breaking."

Aria's heart skipped.

"And what does that mean?"

Kael looked at her carefully.

"The moon does not choose without reason."

His voice lowered slightly.

"And if it chose you…"

He paused.

The wind stirred the trees above them.

"…then something in this world is about to change."

Aria looked up at the silent moon.

For the first time, she realized something frightening.

The moon had chosen her.

But destiny had not come alone.

It had brought war with it.
