Once Kai recuperated from the kiss, he could feel Bree was smiling.
And now that he tasted her plump lips properly, pressing against them as if he wanted to feel them deeper, shame and frustration crept up to his throat. Now that he knew how good it felt to kiss her, the restraints that he had exercised against her seemed meaningless.
Back then in his room, he restrained himself because Layra was still there.
She lingered in the corner of his mind.
Getting even closer to Bree made him feel guilty.
Moreover, things are progressing too fast with Bree, which makes him feel overwhelmed.

Layra hadn't visited him up until now—which she should've easily done if she really wanted to do it. She probably already forgot about him, and it's fine. As for the fast progression of his relationship with Bree, he no longer felt that things were moving too quickly.
Bree had proven over and over again that she's on her side.
