The next morning Nina ran through the living room toward her mother, her tiny legs moving as fast as her heart. The garden she had imagined, the butterflies, the sunshine all of it lived in those crumpled papers, and she wanted her mother to see it, to understand her dreams.
"Mummy, look! This is us… in the garden!" she cried, eyes shining with hope.
But her mother, exhausted and worn from years of pain, snatched the drawings from her hands. In a flash, the colorful paper tore, scattering across the floor.
"Get out!" her mother shouted, voice sharp and cold, striking Nina's little chest like a blow.
"Get out! I hate you."
"I wish you were never born, giving birth you was the biggest mistake of my life."
"I wouldn't be here, in this state,in this condition."
"I wouldn't have sacrificed my life if not you.
They pain.
Beating.
Everything it's because of you.
"I hate you her mother cursed with pain.
As she cried bitterly."
Tears welled in Nina's eyes as her butterfly dreams crumbled before her. She ran to her corner, hugging her teddy tightly, heart aching.
It's my fault, my fault.
"I caused everything mum dad they all hate me.
For the first time, Nina felt that even her mother, the one she loved most, could not shield her from the cruelty of reality. Her dreams of flying far away felt farther than ever.
Nina went to bed with the same hope of after every thing that happened she would see her mum when she wakes up.
Tomorrow… mummy will be okay again."
Just like every other morning, Nina closed her eyes and waited for the sun.
