The water that went into the array was brown. The water that came out was clear.
Katarina held the glass up to the light and looked through it. No sediment, no cloudiness, no smell. She'd pulled this water from the drainage canal behind the vineyard, which was roughly the color and consistency of swamp runoff, and Vessa's formation array had stripped it clean in under ten seconds.
"It works," Katarina said.
"It works!" Vessa was on her knees next to the array, hands still glowing faintly with residual qi, grinning so wide her face looked like it might split. "Kat, look at the throughput. I estimated six liters per minute and it's doing almost nine. The resonance frequency I picked is more efficient than I thought."
Katarina drank the water.
"Kat!"
"What? We're purifying this stuff. Someone has to test it and what better way than that?"
"You could have let me check the mineral retention levels first!"
