My heart skipped. I glanced over at Becca, who was now typing something on her phone, then at the door.
Becca's words from last night echoed in my head.
I shook my head and typed a quick reply. "I don't think it's a good idea."
"Why not?" came the response almost immediately.
"We're supposed to stay far apart," I muttered as I typed it.
"Who gave that nonsense rule?" Kol replied.
I giggled, imagining him snorting as he typed.
"It's the rule," I simply answered.
If it wasn't, we clearly shouldn't have been separated. And I didn't want any trouble that might involve Becca telling on me. She was hellbent on destroying my life—there was no telling what she might do.
I stared at the blank screen, sighing when no new message came. I set the phone down and let my head fall back against the wall.
I gasped as the back of my head hit the wall.
Becca's face was suddenly inches from mine. I clutched my chest, scowling at her.
"What was that for?!"
