Chapter 30 - HIGH FEVER

The house was unusually quiet.

After hours of noise, laughter, arguments, and chaos from the night out, everyone had finally gone to their rooms.

Lights dimmed.

Doors closed.

Silence settled in.

Jay walked in last.

Slow.

Not like her.

Keifer noticed immediately.

He was leaning against the wall when she entered, arms crossed—but the moment he saw her, he straightened.

"…You're tired."

Jay shrugged lightly, dropping her bag.

"…Normal."

But it wasn't.

Her steps were slightly off.

Her breathing heavier.

She walked past him—

and almost lost her balance.

Keifer caught her instantly.

"Hey—"

Jay frowned, trying to steady herself.

"…I'm fine."

Keifer didn't let go.

His hand moved to her forehead.

And his expression changed.

"You're burning."

Jay blinked.

"…It's nothing."

Keifer looked at her for a second.

Then made a decision.

"Sit."

"…I can stand."

He didn't argue.

Didn't raise his voice.

Just guided her to the bed anyway.

And she didn't fight him this time.

Jay sat on the edge of the bed, clearly annoyed.

Keifer grabbed the thermometer, checking her temperature quickly.

A few seconds.

A beep.

He glanced at it—

and frowned.

"High fever."

Jay rolled her eyes weakly.

"…I've had worse."

Keifer looked at her.

"…And you're still going to rest."

Jay opened her mouth to argue—

then stopped.

Because even talking felt like effort.

"…Tch."

She lay back instead.

Of course—

it didn't stay quiet.

Kit's voice echoed from outside.

"WAIT SHE'S ACTUALLY SICK—"

MJ: "MOVE I WANNA SEE—"

Gorya: "Don't crowd her!"

Aum: "…You all need to calm down."

Kanning: "…This is why she collapses."

Keiran tried to peek inside.

"Does she look like a zombie—"

Keigen dragged him away.

"Out."

Jay groaned softly.

"…Why are they like this…"

Keifer almost smiled.

He stood up.

Walked to the door.

Opened it slightly.

"Out."

Kit: "But—"

"Out."

The door closed.

Silence returned.

Jay glanced at him.

"…You're bossy."

Keifer sat back beside her.

"You're sick."

Jay:

"…Still don't like it."

A few seconds passed.

Quiet.

Then—

Jay shifted slightly.

Frowning again.

"…Why are you so far?"

Keifer blinked.

"…I'm right here."

Jay opened her eyes halfway.

Looked at the small gap between them like it offended her.

Then—

reached out—

grabbed his shirt—

and pulled.

"Closer."

Keifer exhaled softly.

"…You always do this."

He moved onto the bed beside her.

No hesitation.

No awkwardness.

And instantly—

Jay moved too.

She leaned into him—

then fully curled against him—

arms wrapping around him naturally.

Like this was her place.

Because it was.

Her head rested against his chest.

Her fingers gripping his shirt.

"…Better," she murmured.

Keifer's arm wrapped around her automatically.

"You only do this when you're not pretending to be strong."

Jay frowned slightly.

"…I always do this."

Keifer smiled faintly.

"…Yeah. With me."

Minutes passed.

Then—

Jay shifted again.

Still restless.

"…Keif."

"…Hmm?"

She looked up at him.

Eyes soft.

Half-lidded.

"…Hold me properly."

Keifer raised an eyebrow.

"…I am."

Jay pouted.

Actually pouted.

"…Not like that."

He paused—

then adjusted.

Pulled her closer.

Tighter.

Hand moving into her hair.

Jay relaxed instantly.

"…See?"

Keifer:

"You're very demanding today."

Jay:

"…Only with you."

A few moments later—

Jay looked up again.

Still close.

"…You're staring."

Keifer smirked.

"You make it easy."

Jay frowned again.

A small pout forming.

"…Don't."

He leaned down—

and gave a quick, soft peck on her pout.

Jay froze.

Blinked slowly.

"…What was that?"

Keifer:

"You were looking cute."

Jay turned her face away slightly.

Still holding onto him.

"…don't do that again or you will get sick.

She shifted again—

this time climbing slightly over him—

fully wrapping around him.

Arms around him.

Leg hooked.

Face tucked into his chest.

"…Warm," she mumbled.

Keifer chuckled softly.

"You're using me as a blanket."

Jay:

"…Better than one."

Door creaks.

Kit whisper-yelling:

"IS SHE ALIVE—"

"Out."

Door shuts instantly.

Jay:

"…They're worse than enemies."

Keifer:

"…Agreed."

The room quieted again.

Jay's breathing slowed.

Fever easing slightly.

Her grip softened—

but didn't leave.

"…don't move," she whispered.

Keifer adjusted the blanket.

Careful.

Gentle.

"I won't."

As Jay fell asleep—

wrapped around him like she belonged there—

safe, warm, unguarded—

Keifer leaned back slightly.

Eyes soft.

For the world—

she was untouchable.

But here—

with him—

she was just Jay.

And he wasn't going anywhere.
