Chapter 35 - The Highway to Hell

The descent from the Rif wasn't a peaceful exit; it was a high-speed breach. Jin and the Atlas Renegades had salvaged three tactical SUVs from the wreckage of the Aegis-7, their black hulls now reinforced with glowing orange Atlas plates.

Jin sat in the lead vehicle, his eyes fixed on the cracked asphalt of the A1 highway. Beside him, Zora was channeling her mana into the car's engine, pushing the "Glitched Velocity" to over 250 km/h.

"Jin, the road ahead is starting to loop," Zora shouted over the roar of the wind. "The GPS says we're moving toward Kenitra, but the scenery hasn't changed in ten minutes. It's a spatial trap!"

Jin looked at his HUD. The red grid lines weren't just in the sky anymore; they were woven into the road. [WARNING: RECURSIVE LOOP DETECTED][AUTHOR: THE ERASER]

"He's not just blocking the road," Jin muttered, gripping the Atlas Heart. "He's turned the highway into a treadmill. We're burning fuel and mana while staying in the exact same coordinate."

Suddenly, the violet sky above the highway fractured. Dozens of silver metallic spheres—Eraser Drones—dropped from the clouds. They didn't fire lasers; they fired "Nullification Bolts." Wherever the bolts hit the road, the asphalt simply dissolved into a grey, empty void.

"Everyone, offensive formation!" Jin commanded through the guild comms.

The twin assassins leaped from the roof of the second SUV, their bodies flickering in and out of the glitch-space as they sliced through the drones in mid-air. But for every drone destroyed, two more appeared. The Eraser was playing a game of attrition.

"Jin, we can't keep this up!" Mi-na appeared on the dashboard, her form glitching. "The loop is tightening. In three minutes, the road will fold in on itself, and we'll be compressed into a single data point!"

Jin realized there was only one way out. He had to break the logic of the highway. He opened the sunroof and stood up, the wind whipping his cloak. He didn't look at the drones; he looked at the "seams" of the reality around them.

"Mi-na, remember the USB data? The 'Unfinished Routes'?"

"You mean the colonial-era roads that were never digitized?" Mi-na's eyes widened. "Jin, those are ghost-files! If we enter them, we might never find our way back to the main server!"

"Better a ghost on a hidden path than a corpse on a main road," Jin replied.

He plunged the Atlas Heart into the roof of the SUV. [SKILL: REALITY SHIFT – GHOST PATH].

The orange energy surged through the vehicle and into the highway. Suddenly, a hidden dirt track, glowing with an ancient amber light, appeared beneath their tires. It cut right through the loop, leading into the dark cork forests of Maâmora.

As the SUVs veered off the modern highway and into the "Ghost Path," a massive figure appeared in the rearview mirror. It was a giant, faceless hunter made of dark smoke, standing in the middle of the dissolving A1 highway.

"You can run into the past, Jin," The Eraser's voice echoed through the cars' speakers, cold and mocking. "But all roads in this country eventually lead to me. See you in the White City."

As the SUVs disappear into the misty ancient woods, Jin notices that his mana bar is no longer blue or orange—it has turned a solid, oil-like black. The "Ghost Path" is starting to rewrite his very soul.
