Chapter 31 If I could dream, you would let it be a beautiful daydream.
"I've found you, Firefly."
Gazing at the fireflies in the desolate sky in the distance, and hearing Little Gray's voice, his body stiffened slightly.
She turned around quickly, her face full of surprise.
But there was no joy or smile that should have been present when meeting someone you like.
"Xing, how did you know I was here...?"
Liu Ying's voice trembled slightly, almost imperceptibly.
The little gray-haired boy looked at her with gentle eyes: "I've been waiting for you to come find me."
The surprise on Liu Ying's face faded, replaced by deep sadness.
She lowered her head, her voice muffled: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to avoid you."
"But I have my reasons. Can I just stay here by myself?"
In the actual storyline, before Little Grey's memories were altered, he was unaware of Firefly's three deaths.
So even now, Firefly still wants Little Gray to leave.
Alone here, I face my third death.
She didn't want Little Gray to see her at her most disheveled and pathetic.
Little Gray shook his head vigorously, his tone absolutely certain: "No, I know this is an agreement."
Upon hearing this, Liu Ying's pupils contracted slightly, and her face instantly turned pale.
She trembled slightly, as if someone had touched upon her deepest secret.
"How did you know about the agreement? I clearly didn't say anything about it..."
The little gray-haired boy pouted smugly, hands on his hips, looking like he knew it all along.
"Don't underestimate my intelligence network."
Upon hearing this, Liu Ying was taken aback for a moment.
He then lowered his head, but a helpless yet gentle smile secretly appeared on his lips.
She raised her head, looked intently at the little gray-haired boy, and slowly spoke:
"It seems I haven't mentioned this yet. Before coming here, I wrote down everything I wanted to do in my journal—I'm staying here to fulfill the last wish in that journal."
"However, I've been secretly watching you from behind for a long time, but I still don't want to bother you."
"I hope your dreams... can begin with a smile, and end with a smile."
Hearing Firefly's words, Little Gray felt a pang of sadness in his heart.
She was absolutely certain of what the dahlia had said—the firefly really did want to stay here quietly, waiting for death alone.
Little Gray tried hard to suppress the sadness in his heart and not let it show on his face.
She looked up and asked softly, "What is your last wish?"
Liu Ying's lips slowly curled up, and a glimmer of anticipation flashed in her eyes:
"Of course, we're going to see the fireworks."
"It's said that there's a huge airship in Pinocchio, and the fireworks you see from there are definitely worth checking out."
Little Gray Fur stepped forward and extended his hand to her.
She squinted her eyes and gave a bright smile: "Then... let's go watch the fireworks!"
...
Soon, Firefly and Little Gray arrived at the stern swimming pool of the Tartarov.
The pool was filled with blue bubbles of all sizes.
The pool water is crystal clear, and from here you can see the huge outline of the city in the distance.
The view ahead was expansive, with an incredibly blue sky.
Occasionally, a shooting star streaks across the sky, no longer the dilapidated, gray-purple, and twisted landscape at the edge of the dream.
The fireflies glanced at the rare and beautiful sky.
He then turned to look at Little Gray Fur and said with a smile, "It is indeed a very suitable place."
"Xing, you have excellent taste."
"You don't understand, I have guiding lines."
Little Gray Hair put one hand on his hip, a slight upturn at the corner of his mouth, and spoke with a hint of smugness.
Liu Ying nodded gently, her voice soft:
"Thank you anyway."
"It seems like it hasn't started yet. Let's sit for a while."
After saying that, she sat down by the pool, her legs hanging down naturally and swinging gently.
Little Grey Fur sat down beside her.
The two looked at each other, and for a moment they fell silent.
A subtle atmosphere, hard to describe, filled the air.
After a while, Firefly seemed to have mustered up her courage and took the initiative to start a conversation.
She looked at the little gray-haired boy and asked softly:
"Is everyone speechless in a situation like this?"
"A little nervous?"
Little Gray Fur paused for a moment, then nervously scratched his cheek.
The firefly gently shook its head, its eyes fixed on the little gray creature, its voice as soft as a feather brushing against the heart:
"Maybe neither is true. I have heard a saying that I have always liked."
"When people want to meet someone, they always imagine the scene before meeting them and what they will say that will make the other person smile."
"Slowly, all the things I wanted to say were said before we even met."
"But at the moment of actual reunion, you will find that the other person is even more wonderful than you imagined—yet for a moment, you can't think of how to praise them."
When Little Grey was glanced at by Fu Li in Onfaros, she remembered her identity; she had once been a Star Core Hunter.
But there are still many things I haven't recalled. Looking at Liu Ying, I realize she cares about me so much; she must know a lot about me.
Now, Little Gray only wanted to ask about the matter between the two of them, so she looked expectantly at Firefly and asked:
"I want to know about our past."
After a moment of silence, Liu Ying shook her head slightly and said in a heavy, apologetic tone:
"...I'm sorry, I can't say."
"Elio told me that it would lead to a terrible future, and I'm just saying a few more words, and you'll die at the next stop."
"All I can tell you is the reason we reunited."
"A long time ago, you promised me that if I could dream, you would make it a beautiful daydream."
Little Gray Fur had no recollection of this incident; her heart was heavy. "But I've forgotten everything..."
Indeed, what the young girl once cherished most has either been lost or has changed its appearance.
But the firefly's smile didn't fade, just as it had when she faced her fate, and she said with certainty:
"What matters is not what they become, but that you still have the same genuine feelings for them."
Liu Ying gazed at the little gray-haired boy, took a deep breath, raised her hand, and brushed the strands of hair from her cheek.
She seemed to want to cover up the bright green lines on her face.
"...Feel sorry."
But Little Gray still saw it, his eyes flickered slightly, and he asked in a heavy voice:
"...Entropy syndrome?"
The firefly responded weakly:
"Yes, actually... of the three deaths mentioned in the script, there's one I haven't experienced yet."
Little Gray Fur sighed and said, "So that's why you're staying by yourself?"
Liu Ying nodded slightly and said:
"I only realized this after the dream of Taiyi had dissipated."
"I misunderstood before. Being sent to Dream Reef by [Death] can't really be considered a death. That would be too easy."
"The three real deaths, the first one... I knew the truth all along."
"I have no ability to dream, and once I wake up, I can no longer fall asleep."
"In other words, the version of myself in my dreams will completely cease to exist."
"The second time, it was the global locust plague that killed me, but I used my true power and was resurrected."
"But that power will inevitably lead to a third time—my symptoms will accelerate uncontrollably, and I will die from entropy loss."
"When we arrived in Pinocchio, the dream had already begun to merge with reality."
"I thought I was dreaming, but at the same time, I was walking in the real world—which would only make entropy continue to worsen."
