Mandine was sitting in the garden reading when she heard a knock on the door. Opening it, she found Adam standing there. After a warm exchange, they returned to the garden to talk, and Mandine shared what had happened to her since their last meeting.
Adam apologized for his absence, explaining that he had been busy with work.
"It's okay," Mandine replied.
"All I did was visit the doctor again, then I went to the pyramid, and didn't leave the house after that. I decided to finish the book."
"Did you really finish it?" Adam asked, glancing at the book on the table.
"Not yet," she said. "You know, every time I read a few pages, I find myself facing a huge amount of unanswered questions. If he was really that old and his story is real, then those pages would be worth gold."
She went on to explain what she had read so far, and Adam listened, growing increasingly confused when she mentioned the letter.
"Don't you think it might be someone we know?" Adam asked.
"Who could it be? We don't know anyone here who has anything to do with the story," Mandine replied.
Adam whispered, "What about the college professor?"
"No, I don't think so," she said. "He wanted the book the last time I met him, but he doesn't seem to know anything about me."
"Yeah, I picked him at random from the closest university here," Adam remarked.
"So, who is this person then?" she asked.
They parted on that question, the answer to which they would never know.
Mandine promised to finish reading the rest of the book that day.
