Chapter 9 - chapter 9: warning

Yue Ling suddenly frowned as something came to her mind.

"Hey, System… I want to ask something."

"Yes, Host."

"If skills can come from those gift scrolls… why didn't you just give me the medical knowledge like that?"

She rubbed her temples in annoyance.

"You almost burned my brain earlier."

"Do you know how painful that was?"

The system replied calmly.

"Host, the situation earlier was different."

"What do you mean different?"

"At that time, the poison inside your body was about to flare up."

"And we did not have medicine to suppress it."

Yue Ling crossed her arms.

"So you forced me to learn medicine?"

"Yes."

"But you can give skills as rewards anyway," she said suspiciously. "Why make me learn first?"

The system explained patiently.

"The system does not give everything for free."

"If the host learns something first, the system gains authorization to grant related abilities as rewards."

"In other words, the system assists growth but does not replace it."

Yue Ling sighed dramatically.

"So troublesome…"

"Learning medicine was necessary for survival," the system continued.

"This world follows the rule of survival of the fittest."

Yue Ling suddenly tilted her head.

"But if I'm poisoned…"

"Wouldn't it make more sense for me to learn poison instead of medicine?"

The system immediately replied,

"Host, with your personality, if you start learning poison first you will definitely go astray."

Yue Ling narrowed her eyes.

"What does that mean?"

"With your laziness, you would probably learn poison just to avoid effort instead of solving the real problem."

"And without medical knowledge, learning poison would be useless."

Yue Ling waved her hand lazily.

"Yes, yes… whatever you say."

She leaned back and hummed in boredom.

"By the way," the system suddenly added, "Host has already completed the basic knowledge of the Medical Domain."

"And the host has also started the Social Domain, where you obtained the Etiquette Skill."

Yue Ling blinked.

"Wait."

"Domains?"

"Yes."

"For every field of knowledge, there exists a separate domain."

"Medicine belongs to the Medical Domain."

"Etiquette belongs to the Social Domain."

Yue Ling suddenly became curious.

"So how many domains are there?"

The system paused.

"I cannot reveal too much right now."

"But if the host works hard, more domains will gradually unlock."

Yue Ling immediately leaned back again.

"Forget it."

"I'll just slack off."

The system sighed deeply.

"Host clearly does not understand her own situation."

"What do you mean?"

"You already know that your body has been poisoned."

"But do you know something else?"

Yue Ling frowned.

"What?"

"The next poison outbreak is approaching soon."

Her expression stiffened.

"What did you say?"

"This poison flares up every month."

"And each outbreak brings extreme pain."

Memories suddenly surfaced in her mind.

A little girl clutching her chest.

Crying alone in her room.

Biting her lip to stop screaming.

Yue Ling's brows slowly tightened.

"How… did she endure something like that?"

The system answered quietly.

"She had no choice."

"At first she cried and screamed."

"But over time she learned to endure it."

"Eventually she would simply hold on until she fainted."

Yue Ling fell silent.

Her fingers slowly clenched.

"That's…"

She didn't finish the sentence.

For a moment, the white virtual space felt unusually quiet.

Then she asked softly,

"So… is there a way to solve this poison?"

The system replied,

"Yes."

"But it is extremely difficult."

Yue Ling's eyes narrowed.

"Tell me."

"You must master both the Medical Domain and the Poison Domain."

"Only then can you analyze the toxin and create an antidote."

Yue Ling stared blankly at the floating panel.

After a long pause she sighed.

"…Forget it."

"I shouldn't have asked."

She scratched her head in frustration.

"That sounds like a lifetime of studying."

The system replied calmly,

"Host must understand that the poison has been damaging this body since birth."

"Without treatment, the body will continue deteriorating."

Yue Ling suddenly asked another question.

"How many domains are there anyway?"

The system hesitated.

"That topic can be discussed later."

"For now, we must prepare for the next poison flare-up."

Yue Ling frowned.

"How long until it happens?"

"Approximately… three days."

"What?!"

Her eyes widened.

"You're telling me I'll suffer that nightmare in three days?!"

"Yes."

She groaned loudly.

"This life is way too troublesome…"

But after complaining for a moment, she slowly straightened her posture.

Her expression gradually became serious.

"I guess…"

"…I really don't have a choice."

She looked at the empty space in front of her.

"System."

"Yes, Host."

"Teach me everything I need to survive."

The system paused briefly before answering.

"…Understood."

Yue Ling clenched her fists slightly.

"Since I've taken this body…"

"I'll live properly."

"And whoever poisoned this girl…"

Her eyes turned cold.

"I'll make sure they regret it."
