Chapter 1 - chapter 1: awaking

Darkness.

Endless darkness surrounded her.

For a moment, she couldn't tell if she was asleep, dead… or somewhere in between.

Slowly, a faint sense of awareness returned.

Her consciousness felt like it was rising from deep water. Her thoughts were slow and foggy, as if she had just woken from a long, exhausting sleep.

Where… am I?

She tried to move.

Her body refused.

Every part of her felt heavy, as if invisible chains were holding her down. Even breathing felt strange.

Her eyelids trembled.

Heavy.

Unbelievably heavy.

She tried to open them, but they barely twitched.

A cold weakness spread through her body. Not the cold of winter, but something deeper—like the warmth of life hadn't fully returned yet.

Her fingers were numb.

Her arms weak.

Her chest rose slowly with each breath.

Why do I feel like this…?

A faint memory surfaced.

The old man.

The strange place.

His voice.

"I will send you into another body."

Her thoughts suddenly became clearer.

Didn't he say he would send me to another body?

But right now, everything felt wrong.

Instead of gaining a new life, she felt like she was lying on the edge of death.

Her eyelids trembled again.

This time, she forced them open.

Slowly.

Light entered her vision.

At first, everything was blurry.

But gradually, shapes began to form.

The first thing she saw was the ceiling.

It was high.

Much higher than a normal room.

Soft golden designs decorated the edges, and a crystal chandelier hung in the center, reflecting faint light.

Her gaze moved slowly around.

She was lying on a large bed.

Soft silk sheets covered her body.

The mattress was so comfortable it almost felt unreal.

Her eyes drifted across the room.

It was huge.

Far larger than an ordinary bedroom.

Tall windows lined one wall, covered by elegant curtains. Evening light filtered through them, casting a warm glow across the room.

Expensive furniture stood neatly around the room.

A polished dresser.

A vanity table with a large mirror.

Perfume bottles and cosmetics arranged neatly.

The air carried a light, sweet fragrance.

It smelled like perfume.

Soft.

Feminine.

Her gaze slowly moved again.

Clothes were folded neatly nearby.

Everything looked clean.

Everything looked elegant.

And most importantly—

Everything looked expensive.

A realization slowly formed in her mind.

So… this is a girl's room.

She stared at the ceiling again.

Her body still felt weak.

Even lifting a finger felt difficult.

A strange coldness lingered in her limbs.

It felt like this body had just recovered from a long illness.

Or maybe…

From death.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

"Seems like that old man kept his promise…"

She remembered her final request clearly.

If she had to start a new life—

She wanted to be rich.

Looking at this luxurious room, it seemed her wish had come true.

Maybe she should thank him.

But something still felt strange.

The room was too quiet.

No footsteps outside.

No voices.

No sounds at all.

The entire place was silent.

Her mind returned to the old man's final words.

"I will send someone to help you."

Her brows furrowed slightly.

Where is it?

She expected something by now.

A system.

A voice.

A floating screen.

Anything.

But nothing appeared.

The room remained silent.

Did he forget?

She frowned slightly.

That old man didn't look like someone who would forget something important.

Yet there was no sign of the help he promised.

Her eyes drifted toward the windows again.

The sky outside glowed softly in the evening light.

Peaceful.

Quiet.

Beautiful.

She lay there silently, too weak to move.

Her body felt cold.

Fragile.

Unfamiliar.

But deep inside…

A small excitement slowly appeared.

So… he really sent me to Earth.

She has listened from stories that earth is where everything is enjoyable and fun.

A faint smile spread across her face.

If this truly was her new life…

Then maybe things would become interesting.

Very interesting.

For now, she remained lying in the soft bed, surrounded by quiet luxury.

Her body was still weak.

Still cold.

But her mind was slowly waking up.

And somewhere deep inside, curiosity had already begun to grow.

What kind of life awaits me in this new world?

She didn't know yet.

But one thing was certain.

This…

was only the beginning.

Her previous life was in an interstellar world.

A place full of technology, starships, and powerful forces… but also endless wars. Planets fought, factions fought—battles happened so often people treated them like normal news.

She hated that world.

She was an orphan, surviving alone since childhood. With no one to rely on, she learned hacking and lived by breaking into networks and systems. It paid well enough to keep her alive.

Still… that life felt empty.

Deep down she always wanted something she never had—

A warm, loving family.

Then one day… she suddenly died.

At least, she thinks she did.

Because strangely, she can't remember how.

All she remembers is meeting a strange eccentric old man. He said he could send her somewhere she liked and asked what kind of life she wanted.

Yue Ling didn't think too much before answering.

She wanted a warm family.

And she wanted to be rich—rich enough to just lie down and enjoy life.

The old man seemed amused.

But something about that memory feels strange now.

She can't remember his face clearly.

Even his words feel blurry.

And the most strange thing—

She still has no memory of how she died. Something about it feels… mysterious.
