Chapter 175 - Chapter 174: Fu Hua’s Fake Death — Was There a Hidden Hand Behind It?!

"Hah… so Aha really did get chased off by the Hunt?"

Meanwhile, on a planet somewhere outside the Luofu, Kallen watched with great interest as Aha fled before Lan's pursuit.

That was right—something no one on the Xianzhou could possibly have imagined.

At this very moment, the Witch of Nihility whom every Xianzhou native wanted to carve into a thousand pieces was stationed right near the Luofu.

In fact, she had been lurking in this area for quite some time already.

Still, Kallen did not spare too much thought for that.

What she was really thinking about now was just how absurdly pure Aha's brand of madness was.

Honestly, she had known that Aha's invitation to Mobius to join Elation probably hadn't come from any real kindness.

But in that moment, she had genuinely been tempted.

Just imagine it—

In full view of the galaxy, the orphaned dragon sovereign of Yuanqiao, unable to bear drowning forever in grief, choosing instead to join the Path of Elation.

Just the thought of a scene like that was thrilling.

After all, after witnessing Yuanqiao's past, if anyone tried to claim the Xianzhou people felt no guilt or attachment at all toward Mobius, that would be a flat-out lie.

But no one had expected Lan to strike at that exact moment.

Looks like even though Mobius was a vestige of Permanence, she had still earned the Hunt's recognition.

What surprised Kallen even more, though, was that Aha had actually run.

If she was being honest, she had been a little curious just how great the differences in combat power between the Aeons really were.

Still, from the look of things, Lan chasing Aha around definitely did not mean Aha was running out of fear of being beaten senseless.

Running away was probably just another joke to Aha.

Even so, Kallen was glad Aha had left. Once Aha ran, Lan would obviously give chase.

Otherwise, Kallen really would have been afraid Lan might stay here and casually loose an arrow in her direction.

Especially since Cecilia was standing right beside her.

At that thought, both Cecilia and Kallen exchanged rather miserable looks.

A daughter of the Abundance and a Witch of Nihility who had once annihilated the Xianzhou Alliance.

With backstories like those, if they really ran into Lan head-on, they would probably get shot dead on the spot.

Kallen let out a long sigh.

"What a pain. Looks like I'm stuck working overtime now."

That was right—she was officially on overtime duty.

The Luofu was currently packed with Xianzhou generals.

And because of Mobius's existence, even more people were bound to come.

If she didn't seize this chance to make a scene, then wouldn't all of this be a terrible waste?

Given the current state of the Luofu, there were not many forces strong enough to act as "villains."

The only candidates were probably the people in Shackling Prison.

But were they really combat-ready?

Kallen had her doubts.

Even if the crippled, half-dead Shuhu somehow came back out, he would probably just get hacked into paste.

So in the end, she, the Witch of Nihility, would just have to see the villain role through to the bitter end.

Kallen lifted her gaze and looked once more at the two figures standing beside her.

One of them, naturally, was Cecilia of Abundance.

In order to cover for Mobius, she had already been lying in wait here since before Mobius had even arrived at the Luofu.

And the other—

Fu Hua of the Hunt.

Heh. Since she had just bought the full-level account, there was no way she was going to leave it sitting in storage gathering dust.

Still, under the current circumstances, Cecilia was one thing, but "dead" Fu Hua absolutely could not show her face yet. Kallen still had not figured out what sort of dramatic re-entry scene she wanted to give her.

Kallen took a deep breath and forced all the messy thoughts out of her head.

"Alright. Get ready."

Her tone suddenly turned serious—serious enough that even she found it slightly unnatural.

"It's time for us to start working."

Cecilia blinked, the corner of her mouth lifting.

"So, finally making a move?"

"If not, then what?" Kallen rolled her eyes. "You think I've been squatting out here this whole time to admire the scenery?"

Then she turned toward the tall figure at her back.

Fu Hua.

"Crimson Kite, ready?"

"At any moment," Fu Hua replied.

It was Fu Hua's voice, yes.

But hidden beneath it was something difficult to name—an unmistakable excitement, a kind of eagerness.

Kallen nodded, then looked back to Cecilia.

By now Cecilia had already shed her lazy posture. She raised her right hand, and something in the void answered her summons.

A spear emerged from the light.

Long and elegant, pure silver from end to end, with black and white radiance wound around the spearhead.

Black Abyss White Flower.

Mm… Kallen turned to the other side.

Fu Hua had moved as well.

She raised her right hand, and something began to condense in empty space.

A bow.

The moment the longbow took shape, Fu Hua's aura changed completely.

Her plain white robes stirred wildly, and golden radiance burst from within her, gathering behind her into a colossal phantom—

The Hunt's divine spirit.

The power Lan had bestowed upon a Xianzhou general, the highest manifestation of the Hunt's authority within the Alliance.

Kallen's breathing hitched.

Two powers, one on each side, hemming her in.

On the left was the vitality of Abundance—unceasing life force, a miracle capable of making all things flourish.

On the right was the edge of the Hunt—unyielding killing intent, an arrow sharp enough to pierce anything.

And as for herself—

She herself could not use anything. She could only rely on Preservation and tank the damage head-on.

"Mm… or maybe, hear me out, we could take it slow? Bit by bit? One hit at a time?" Kallen ventured.

For once, she actually felt a little guilty.

After all, these were not weak avatars. They were full-level builds just like her.

If she let two of them unload on her at once, even with this Preservation body, it was going to hurt like hell.

But then, why was she doing this in the first place?

Why was she having her own other avatars attack her?

The answer was simple.

She was farming a passive.

Adaptive to All Things.

Any attack short of an instant kill can be gradually adapted to, until complete immunity is achieved.

That was right.

For her next operation, Kallen's account was probably going to spend quite a while rampaging around the Luofu.

And in a place like the Xianzhou, the most common threats were either Hunt-based or Abundance-based.

Since she had the conditions to do it, she might as well grind some resistance first.

Naturally, attacks that were too weak would not increase Kallen's resistance.

But luckily for her, her other max-level accounts were anything but weak.

Using one of her own avatars to stack resistance for another—

Kallen thought that kind of "standing on your own shoulders" tactic was absolutely unbeatable.

After all, these were all products of her painstaking effort. If Kiana hadn't been tied up elsewhere right now, Kallen would honestly have considered dragging her in too and staging a glorious three-on-one.

Kallen cleared her throat.

"Ahem. Fine. I'm ready. You two, come on!"

The next moment, two razor-sharp attacks hurtled straight at Kallen.

Boom!

Resistance to Abundance: 10%… 15%… 20%…

Resistance to the Hunt: 20%… 30%… 40%…

Kallen: ?????

That's not right, is it?!

A hidden hand?!

Three more days passed after Aha's broadcast and Aha being chased off by Lan.

Over those three days, the entire galaxy boiled over once again.

No one had imagined that the Xianzhou Alliance, now so dazzling and prosperous, had once had such a past.

And worse yet, the one responsible for that ending had once again turned out to be Kallen Kaslana.

One had to remember: not long ago, this Witch of Nihility had stood before the entire galaxy and openly defied Qlipoth.

Before, Kallen had not actually done anything that directly harmed the galaxy as a whole, so the only groups with reason to react strongly were the IPC and those who worshiped Preservation.

But now things were different.

In that history before Mystery, not only had this Witch of Nihility nearly destroyed the entire Xianzhou Alliance, she had also intended to spread a plague of Nihility across the whole galaxy.

Without question, by this point Kallen Kaslana had become the enemy of the entire galaxy.

The first to respond were, unsurprisingly, the IPC.

The company moved swiftly, issuing a public notice and once again warning the galaxy about the danger posed by the Witch of Nihility.

Then they extended invitations to every major and minor faction across the stars, as well as to any lone wanderers who might be willing to answer the call.

An invitation to form an Anti–Witch of Nihility Alliance.

That was right. This time it was no longer merely a private grudge.

Now the IPC had planted itself squarely on the side of public righteousness and called upon all parties to unite.

Because Kallen's threat was no longer abstract.

This Witch of Nihility, who six hundred years ago in that pre-Mystery past had almost driven the galaxy into a Hunt-aligned end, had emerged again.

Not long ago she had chosen to strike at the IPC, leaving even the Preservation Aeon marked by Nihility.

After seeing the history laid bare by Mystery, no one could convince themselves there was no deeper scheme at work here.

True, as an Aeon, Qlipoth should not be so easily affected by Kallen.

But Kallen had once been one of Preservation's vessels, and the Amber Lord had chosen to spare her.

Under circumstances like that, who could remain at ease?

And yet, just as the entire galaxy assumed the Xianzhou Alliance would be the very first power to accept the IPC's proposal—

The Xianzhou Alliance refused.

Or rather, they chose to shelve the invitation for the time being.

Because on the Xianzhou, there was something even more important demanding their full attention.

For the sake of that matter, they were willing to postpone even the campaign against the Witch of Nihility.

And what could possibly matter so much to the Xianzhou Alliance?

The answer, of course, was simple.

Mobius.

That was right. After learning the truth of Yuanqiao's past, the Xianzhou Alliance made a bold decision.

They canceled the Martial Ceremony on the Luofu, which had been on the verge of beginning.

In its place, they would send out invitations to the entire galaxy and let everyone bear witness together—

To a memorial ceremony for the Xianzhou ship Yuanqiao.

And to a grand celebration welcoming Mobius home.

At this moment, in Changle Pass on the Luofu—

Mobius was beginning to suspect she had made a terrible mistake.

All she had originally wanted was to go out for a stroll with Lingsha.

After all, she had been cooped up at home for three full days.

And during those three days, one general after another had come to visit her, each one more cautious and careful than the last, as though she were some sort of terminal patient.

She hated that feeling.

So early this morning, she had insisted that Lingsha take her out.

At first, Mobius had thought that a walk, a bit of fresh air, might improve her mood.

And at the beginning, everything had indeed seemed perfectly normal.

Though Mobius was dressed a little differently from native Luofu residents and wore those unmistakable dragon horns on her head, Changle Pass was crowded and full of all kinds of strange fashions. Hardly anyone paid her much attention.

Until—

"Oh heavens, isn't that Lady Mobius?!"

A shrill voice burst out from a bakery by the roadside.

Mobius stopped mid-step and turned her head.

It was a pastry shop. In the doorway stood a round-faced middle-aged woman in an apron, still holding a baking tray in her hands. Her eyes were wide enough to bulge out of her face, her whole body frozen where she stood.

"It really is Lady Mobius!"

Mobius's brows twitched.

Given her current status, she was very well aware of exactly what sort of symbolic role she had become to the Xianzhou Alliance.

And immediately, she felt a bad premonition rising in her chest.

She wanted to say don't shout—

But before she could get the words out, the entire street had already exploded into chaos.

That was right. The moment everyone heard the name Mobius, it was as if some kind of hidden switch had flipped. All at once, every head on the street turned toward her.

And then they recognized her.

What followed was a flood of invitations from every direction.

Some merchants were still just calling out.

Others had already rushed over, holding things out in both hands.

Mobius nearly lost her composure.

Well.

It seemed this round of "history-shaping" had gone over pretty well.

No.

Pretty well was an understatement.

This was practically world-dominating, sky-piercing, outrageously overpowered success.

That day, after the Hunt Aeon had chased Aha away from the Luofu, the system had immediately settled Mobius's rewards.

Just like Kallen before her, she had received a full one million History-Forging Points.

With that, Mobius had once again become absurdly rich—rich enough to buy whatever she pleased.

Still, one thing puzzled her.

She had also been highly satisfied with Kallen's earlier performance.

But honestly, she did not think Kallen's drama at the IPC had been better than this round.

If Kallen's run had been worth the full reward, then in Mobius's opinion this one should at least have qualified as an ultra-super-maximum-overwhelming jackpot beyond jackpots.

And yet, even so, the settlement had still only given one million points.

That left Mobius with a nagging suspicion.

Could it be… that one million was the maximum possible payout per event?

Now, to be fair, one million was indeed a huge sum. It was enough for Mobius to create several more max-level accounts if she wanted.

But she had not forgotten her original goal.

She wanted to save up one hundred million and ascend to godhood.

If even a stunt on this level could only earn one million, then reaching one hundred million meant she still had an awfully long road ahead.

Well, all she could do was hope this time the problem had been the cap on scoring—not that her performance had merely happened to top out at exactly the cap.

Mobius took a breath and forced her attention back to reality.

Looking at the crowd's almost frightening enthusiasm, the corner of her eye twitched.

Then she turned to Lingsha behind her.

Today, Lingsha wore a pale teal dress. Her long black hair was pinned up with a silver hairpin, giving her an elegant, calm beauty.

At this moment, she had lowered her head slightly, a faint smile on her lips as she watched Mobius get mobbed.

There was unmistakably a watching the show unfold quality to her gaze.

"Danju," Mobius said under her breath.

"Mm?" Lingsha turned her head slightly.

"Help me out here." Mobius lowered her voice even further. "I can't deal with this."

But Lingsha only tilted her head, amusement flickering in her eyes.

"Help you how, exactly, little Dragon Sovereign?"

"Any way you want," Mobius muttered, her frown deepening.

Because she was beginning to suspect that there was something very suspicious going on with Lingsha today, too.

Was this woman actually a two-faced traitor?

"Little Dragon Sovereign," Lingsha said, cutting through her thoughts.

She stepped forward until she stood at Mobius's side, then bent slightly so that her eyes were level with those green-blue pupils.

"These are not some random people's belongings."

Her voice was soft, soft enough that only Mobius could hear.

"They are Xianzhou citizens. They are your people. Yuanqiao, Luofu, the Yaoqing, the Zhuming… the six ships have always been one."

"Little Dragon Sovereign, this is not a burden."

"It's everyone's heartfelt offering."

Mobius froze for a moment.

She understood that in principle.

But still—weren't they being a little too enthusiastic?

Even before she started going out, apart from the generals who came to see her every single day, ordinary citizens had also been showing up nonstop to deliver gifts.

Naturally, Mobius could not personally receive them all.

So Lingsha had very thoughtfully accepted everything on her behalf.

And now her residence was practically overflowing with presents.

If not for that, why did anyone think she wanted to go out in the first place?!

Mobius let out a shaky breath and turned her head again.

Before her, she saw stacks of pastries, cloth, jade ornaments, stuffed dolls, even several wooden swords clearly made to suit children.

Fine.

If Lingsha said this was their heartfelt offering, then she would accept it.

After all, Mobius also knew very well that in the Xianzhou Alliance she was now precisely the sort of person everyone was determined to dote on.

And just as she was about to reach out and accept the osmanthus cake the round-faced woman was offering her—

"Out of the way! Move!"

A rough bark rose from the far end of the street, cutting through the bustle.

Mobius's hand stopped midair.

She lifted her head and looked in the direction of the shout.

A group was marching toward them from the far end of Changle Pass, moving fast and shoving aside anyone in their path without the slightest courtesy.

Pedestrians staggered. Some dropped what they were holding. Some nearly fell. Some frowned and prepared to curse.

Then they saw who it was.

The Vidyadhara.

Those same people opened their mouths—

Only to swallow their anger again. In the end, all that remained on their faces was something hard to define.

Silently, they moved aside and made way.

Lingsha reacted almost instantly. She shifted half a step forward, just enough to shield Mobius partly behind her.

The group stopped directly in front of Mobius.

The one at the head was a young man wearing a dark teal robe, its hem embroidered with complex cloud motifs—the insignia of a Vidyadhara elder.

When he stopped, his gaze fell straight on Mobius.

And then—

He knelt.

The sound of his knees striking the stone street rang out sharply in the suddenly quiet Changle Pass.

The Vidyadhara behind him all dropped to their knees as well, one after another.

"Tao Ran, Dragon Elder of the Luofu Vidyadhara, together with the younger members of our clan, pays homage to Lord Jade Sovereign."

Mobius said nothing at first. She only stared down at the man.

Tao Ran… yes, she remembered the name.

Well, well.

So after all this, the Luofu still had not arrested these Dragon Elders even after they colluded with outside enemies?

Whatever. It had nothing to do with her anyway.

At length she asked coolly:

"…What do you want?"

Tao Ran did not raise his head. His voice came from his bowed posture, each word sounding as though it had been forced from his throat.

"Lord Mobius… Lady Mobius."

"You are the Jade Sovereign of Yuanqiao. The disciple of General Crimson Kite. The sole inheritor of the Six Dragon Transmissions."

"What flows through you is the bloodline of Permanence—the source of the Vidyadhara, the final spark of the Dragon Ancestor long since fallen from the world."

And as he said these words, Tao Ran himself was beginning to tremble.

Unlike the rest of the Xianzhou Alliance, the Vidyadhara had reacted to Mobius's identity in an entirely different way.

True, Mobius was the Jade Sovereign of Yuanqiao's line.

But Yuanqiao was gone now, wasn't it?

And besides, this Mobius before them had inherited true Permanence.

She commanded the strength of all dragon lineages.

In that unrealized future, she had even become a true dragon.

And wasn't that just perfect?

That was right.

She had no home now—but the Luofu Vidyadhara had one waiting for her.

The Luofu's Dragon Elders had completely disregarded Bailu.

To them, there was simply no comparison between Bailu and Mobius.

Tao Ran's voice faltered for a moment, as if fighting to contain something overflowing in his chest.

"Lady Mobius… the Vidyadhara have gone too long without a true High Elder."

"Imbibitor Lunae Dan Feng… betrayed the duties of the High Elder, betrayed the future of the Vidyadhara, betrayed the inheritance of Permanence."

"The Luofu Vidyadhara are leaderless. Fragmented. Scattered."

"We have waited too long. So long that we nearly forgot what a true High Elder ought to be."

At last Tao Ran raised his head.

"Lady Mobius, please enter the Luofu Vidyadhara and take your rightful place."

"Please replace Imbibitor Lunae and become our new High Elder."

"Please lead us back onto the path of Permanence."
