Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: You’re Not My Sweet Little Lamb Anymore!

From Kiana the Lord Ravager Onward: A Grand Fabricated History

Author: Better Hang Myself Than Write

A week passed in the blink of an eye.

During that time, with Asta's help, Kiana had completely familiarized herself with the environment of Herta Space Station.

As a distinguished guest personally brought back by Herta, Kiana had been given the highest level of treatment by Asta, and the researchers on the station were all full of curiosity toward the mysterious white-haired girl.

And according to the staff member who had handled Kiana's registration at the time, this mysterious girl was very likely the adopted daughter Madam Herta had brought back with her.

Ever since that rumor began spreading like wildfire, Kiana's days on the space station had become even more… delicate.

Though, to Kiana, none of that really mattered anymore.

After all, they were just NPCs who could barely even function as chargers. Naturally, she couldn't be bothered to care that much.

...

...

Early morning, outside Kiana's room.

Asta stood at the door, clearly wanting something from Kiana, yet hesitating and making no move.

The scene from a week ago still remained vivid in her mind.

And after spending these past few days together, Asta had to admit that the girl with the unusual identity had indeed left a deep impression on her.

After all, it was rare to meet another girl around her own apparent age on the space station, and this girl had even been adopted by Madam Herta.

The two of them were bound to have plenty of contact going forward, so naturally Asta wanted to build a good relationship with her.

However, before she could knock, the sound of footsteps pulled her back from her thoughts.

"Asta?"

A crisp voice came from behind her, tinged with the laziness of someone who had only just woken up.

Asta turned around and saw Kiana standing barefoot on the metal floor in a loose white nightgown, her silver-white hair rumpled from sleep, with a few rebellious strands sticking up.

She rubbed at her eyes like a cat that hadn't slept enough.

"K-Kiana! Why did you come out like that?!"

Asta hurried toward her, instinctively wanting to straighten her collar, only for her hand to stop halfway there as her cheeks began to heat up again.

Kiana yawned, then very naturally caught Asta's suspended hand and pulled her toward the sofa in the sitting area.

"It was too noisy outside," Kiana answered.

And really, that couldn't be helped.

At this point in the timeline, the Astral Express had only departed two weeks ago. After just suffering an attack from the Legion, the space station was naturally still in a busy state.

"So, Asta, did you need something from me today? Or has Madam Herta finally come back?"

Kiana's words snapped Asta back to attention.

Although Kiana had already been on the station for a week, Herta seemed to be off gathering a few friends to come over together this time, so she would probably still need another day or two.

"It's not about Madam Herta, it's…" Asta took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

"Kiana, do you have any plans today?"

Kiana blinked, clearly not expecting that question.

"Does planning to sleep in count as a plan?"

Asta was amused by the shamelessly confident answer. "Of course not! I mean actual plans."

But Kiana still didn't answer directly.

"So, does that mean you came looking for me because you want something today?"

"Mhm. I just wanted to ask whether you were free. You only just woke up in this era, after all, so I thought maybe I could take you around and help you learn more about things."

"Learn more about this era…"

Kiana tilted her head, as though considering whether to agree.

For some reason, though, after hearing Asta's explanation, she got the distinct feeling that Asta was trying to raise her favorability.

No way, right?

Could it be that she was just being oversensitive?

Logically speaking, she and Asta had only known each other for a short time. Although Kiana had indeed been deliberately closing the distance between them these past few days so Asta would keep charging her properly—

that was only during the first few days.

"Even though it sounds interesting, I don't want to go today."

"Huh?" Asta looked surprised. She had assumed Kiana would be fascinated by the idea.

"Is something bothering you, Kiana? Or maybe…"

"Neither." Kiana rose from the sofa.

"I just suddenly feel like being alone for a little while."

Asta froze where she stood, unsure how to respond for a moment.

Over the past week, Kiana had always been energetic, even overly enthusiastic at times. The contrast with how she was acting now left Asta at a loss.

"Kiana… did I say something wrong?" Asta asked carefully.

"No, not at all. I really just have other plans today," Kiana replied with a smile.

If it had been a few days ago, Kiana would never have refused Asta's invitation.

After all, no matter what, Asta still counted as a high-quality power bank. As long as Kiana chatted with her and slipped in a few little stories, earning points would have been effortless.

But alas, heaven was fickle.

Right after Kiana had managed to fleece another 3,000 points out of Asta, she discovered one deeply tragic truth.

Even premium power banks had their limits.

Once Asta had come to believe Kiana's lies wholeheartedly, Kiana found that the efficiency of drawing Fabricated History Points from her began to plummet sharply.

At first, Kiana tried changing angles. She even brought out a few of the personas she hadn't activated yet.

But although Asta still believed her, the system's point rewards had dropped from an initial 1,000 to mere hundreds, then tens, and sometimes even single digits.

Clearly, after being intensively drained during the early phase, Asta the premium power bank had already entered a saturated state.

And that was exactly why Kiana was turning down Asta's invitation today.

The reason was simple:

Asta was no longer Kiana's beloved warm-hearted little lamb.

She needed to save her time for other lambs.

After all, she was now only 2,000 points away from exchanging for the Herrscher of Flames Core. Time was of the essence!

"All right, then. Get some rest first, Kiana." Asta stood up.

"If you have time later, feel free to contact me anytime."

"Mhm. Thanks, Asta." Kiana smiled as she said goodbye.

...

...

After seeing off a slightly dejected Asta, Kiana finally began considering her next move.

Actually, the reason she had turned Asta down wasn't just because the wool she could shear from her had reached its limit.

There was an even more important reason.

Kiana opened her terminal, and a strange interface—something that looked almost like a virus—filled the screen.

[Miss Kiana, hello.]

Kiana frowned.

Ever since this morning, someone had hacked her terminal, forcibly locking the entire display into this chat interface.

So someone had set their sights on her?

Kiana narrowed her eyes. The terminal she was currently using ran on the IPC's system.

Just a little while ago, she had even used her own company-level authorization to investigate it, but still turned up nothing.

Even so, judging from the style of it, Kiana already had a certain guess about who the other party might be.

[111]

Kiana chose to reply with brutal brevity.

The other side seemed to have been waiting the whole time, because the response arrived almost instantly.

[Miss Kiana, we mean no harm. We merely wish to meet with you. May I ask whether you have time right now?]
