"Expose what?" Silas asked, his voice flat and his eyes narrowed further.
Patrick's hands twisted in the fabric of the gown. He looked smaller somehow, diminished by the weight of what he was about to say. "Something I did in college. I was young and stupid and desperate. I came from a family with nothing and I was on scholarship, surrounded by students who had money and connections and safety nets that I couldn't even imagine."
He took a breath then continued. "There was a student. He was rich, well-connected. He was failing his courses and needed to pass to graduate. He offered me money to take his exams for him. And I thought it won't be harm to help him and convinced myself it was just this once."
Salvar watched him, and said nothing.
