Salvar's eyes went wide with panic as he whipped his head back and forth, caught between the dark silhouettes waiting beyond the glass and the two men closing in from the corridor behind them. He bit his lip hard enough to sting and fixed his glare on the man who had chased them down the slope, the one whose chin was still red from Patrick's punch.
"What will you do now?" the man asked, his voice carrying a thin, satisfied edge. "We've got you surrounded." He laughed, just a little, just enough to make Salvar want to punch him again.
Salvar looked at him, then back at the glass door, then back at the man. He took a slow, deliberate breath, pointed his thumb toward the hooded figures waiting on the other side of the glass, and said, "They want Patrick dead. But your boss wants him alive. That's a conflict of interest, isn't it?"
