Working the event was voluntary.
Meaning it didn't legally count towards my 20 hours.
Meaning I was assigned a ten hour shift the very same day.
I 'clocked out' of my official shift and dove right into event preparation. It felt strange, closing everything down then opening the shed we never used. I didn't even lower my hand between locking the greenhouse entrance and unlocking the shed's door and shutter.
"Do we have events like this often?" The heavy puff of dust that came off the shutter as I lifted it up answered my question before
Candy could reply. She responded anyway, "We like to have at least two a semester. But we don't always provide refreshments. And most of the events happen inside the greenhouse."
I nodded as I stocked the shelves with new snacks. At the back of a mostly empty shelf I found a chip back that'd expired before I'd learned to walk. I showed it to Candy and grimaced.
