As soon as the last servant left, the calm smile that had been on Duke Herold's face disappeared. The room went silent. He walked slowly to the large window overlooking the front courtyard.
His eyes were fixed on the empty stone path. Avvion's carriage had long since disappeared. He stood there for a few seconds in the quiet. The hand holding his cane tightened until his knuckles turned white.

The tip of the cane hit the marble floor, the sound echoing through the room.

His voice was low, filled with a tension he couldn't hide anymore. They had been dealing with each other for years. He knew Avvion better than most other nobles.

"A servant..."
The word felt strange to say.
"No..."
He opened his eyes slowly.
"That wasn't just a servant."
He narrowed his eyes.
