Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: The Black Market of Souls

The ship groaned softly as it settled into the hidden cove of the Sandy Coast. The violet mist of the [Soul Cloak] slowly dissolved, revealing the rugged, sun-bleached rocks that would serve as their secret base.

"We're here," Silas grunted, jumping into the knee-deep water. "But we can't just walk into the capital with a Princess and a giant ship. We need information, and more importantly, we need to look like we belong."

Kai stepped onto the dry, burning sand, his boots crunching on the shells. "I agree. Silas, stay with the ship and keep the [Soul Puppet] on guard. Vivi, you need to hide your hair. From this moment on, you aren't a princess—you're my apprentice."

"There's a market nearby," Kai said, his golden eyes scanning the heat haze. "Not a normal one. It's a place where the desperate sell what little they have left. That's where we'll find our entrance."

After an hour of walking through the scorching heat, they arrived at a cluster of tents hidden beneath a natural rock overhang. This was 'The Scavenger's Den', a black market where the poor and the corrupt traded stolen goods and, more secretly, information.

As they entered, the air grew thick with the smell of cheap tobacco and unwashed bodies. Dozens of eyes turned toward them, suspicious and hungry.

"What do you want, boy?" a scarred man sitting on a pile of rusted swords growled. "This isn't a place for tourists."

Kai didn't flinch. He walked straight to the center of the camp and opened his palm. A small, pulsating violet orb—a fragment of the soul energy he had harvested from the assassin—glowed brilliantly in the dim light.

The entire camp went silent. The spiritual pressure emanating from the orb was like a cool breeze in the desert heat.

"I'm not a tourist," Kai said, his voice echoing with an unnatural authority. "I'm a Trader. And I'm looking for something that gold can't buy. I want the 'Debt Ledger' of the local Billion agents."

A shadowy figure emerged from the largest tent, leaning on a cane. "That energy... it's pure life. Who are you, boy? Only the Warlord is supposed to have power like that in this desert."

"The Warlord hoards his power," Kai replied, a cold smile playing on his lips. "I trade mine. Now, do we talk business, or do I let this soul energy dissipate into the sand?"

[Objective: Trade the 'Assassin's Soul Fragment' for the 'Baroque Map of Rainbase'.]
