Chapter 337: Summoning Shenron
Progress on gathering the Dragon Balls wasn't especially fast, if we're honest. Even with Ryū, Tatsumaki, Yukari, and Kami himself — who'd volunteered to help — all searching, a whole planet's surface area was simply too vast to cover quickly.
Especially with how small the Dragon Balls actually were — it was practically finding a needle in a haystack. The one saving grace was Observation Haki, which functioned like some upgraded version of a Dragon Radar.
Ryū held a freshly recovered Dragon Ball in his hand — one he'd dived into a deep-sea trench to fish out, its surface already crusted with barnacles.
The barnacles weren't much to look at — anyone with a fear of tightly packed clusters would probably have gagged on sight.
Ryū, of course, had no such aversion. He scraped the barnacles off, revealing the ball intact underneath, and muttered to himself, "Add that to the first three, and there's only three left now."
Just as he was about to resume the search, a soft "ding-dong" chimed in the chat group inside his head.
Standing effortlessly atop the ocean's surface via Moonwalk, Ryū let his awareness slip into the chat group.
There, he found Yukari had apparently tagged him in the chat.
Eternally Seventeen: "RawrSoFierce, Admin-sama — Little Tornado and I have found two Dragon Balls between us. How's it going on your end?"
Eternally Seventeen: "Never expected finding these things to be this hard. We've been at it over two hours already."
My True Form Is Cola: "Finding two out of four remaining Dragon Balls scattered across an entire planet in just two hours is already ridiculous! And Yukari-senpai's calling that slow?"
Eternally Seventeen: "You don't think that's slow? By my own estimate, we should've had all of them by now with two-plus hours. Only two found — that's a miscalculation on my part."
RawrSoFierce: "[Image] What a coincidence — I just found one too. Add that to your two, and there's only one left, isn't there?"
Wandering Little Planet: "666666, are you all about to summon the wish-granting dragon already?"
Wandering Little Planet: "What's Admin-sama planning to wish for, anyway?"
RawrSoFierce: "What to wish for? Haven't decided yet. We'll figure it out when the time comes."
RawrSoFierce: "Besides, as long as we've got all seven, we get a wish every year regardless — doesn't matter what we ask for. Worst case we waste it and just make another one next year."
Eternally Seventeen: "Eh? Admin-sama hasn't picked a wish yet? I've actually thought of one already."
Kaguya-sama: "What wish did you come up with, Yukari-nee? It's not going to be something weird and not-safe-for-minors, is it?"
Eternally Seventeen: "My wish is to finally settle whether Admin-sama's a virgin or not!"
RawrSoFierce: "...Pfft! You're joking, right? If you actually spent a wish on that, you'd be wasting it for nothing."
Kaguya-sama: "Yikes... scary, scary. Yukari-nee really is a hentai through and through!"
Kaguya-sama: "I can already picture it — Sakura's definitely going to end up a bad influence casualty."
Little Sakura of the Tohsaka: "Agreed — Yukari-nee-chan really is a hentai. She keeps roping me into helping her spy on Admin-sama."
Eternally Seventeen: "Ahem! That's just perfectly normal reconnaissance, nothing more! Getting a head start never hurt anyone, right?"
RawrSoFierce: "Eh, hold on — actually, a wish just occurred to me."
Eternally Seventeen: "What wish?"
RawrSoFierce: "Secret!"
Master Roshi: "RawrSoFierce, Eternally Seventeen, Terrible Tornado — everyone, Kami's confirmed the exact location of one Dragon Ball, and already sent his servant to fetch it."
Master Roshi: "Huh? Just scrolled back through the chat — looks like the rest have already been found?"
Eternally Seventeen: "So Kami found the last one — perfect, then. We can head back and put all seven together."
RawrSoFierce: "Finding four Dragon Balls in a bit over two hours — nobody's beating that pace."
Terrible Tornado: "I mean, Observation Haki basically works like that Dragon Radar Admin-sama mentioned. Once you've memorized one Dragon Ball's signature, any of the rest within sensing range gets pinpointed instantly."
"..."
Once his awareness withdrew from the chat group, Ryū weighed the Dragon Ball in his hand.
He hadn't expected all seven to come together this quickly. Was it just because Earth was such a small planet?
Still, finding them fast was for the best — saved him from having to keep running all over the place.
Ryū's figure vanished from where he stood in an instant, already a thousand meters away in the blink of an eye — a speed that had left "reasonable" far behind.
The minutes ticked by, five or six of them passing.
Ryū reappeared at the same spot as before — the place where King Piccolo had finally kicked the bucket.
...
King Piccolo's corpse still lay there on the ground, though now his stomach had a gaping hole cut into it, strangely colored blood pooled all around, already looking dried out.
Yukari had already made it back well before him — with her gap ability, it was practically the same thing as teleportation, letting her flit around within roughly a tenth of a solar system at will.
The Dragon Ball world's Kami was there too, a gleaming Dragon Ball held in his hand, the setting sun's light catching it and making it look even more beautiful.
Its texture didn't look like glass, or crystal, or diamond — if anything, it gave off more of an amber-like impression.
After waiting around two minutes, Tatsumaki showed up fashionably late with the final Dragon Ball in hand. All seven, finally, were accounted for!
Kami handed the ball over to Ryū himself, saying, "The Dragon Balls are truly wondrous things. Please make good use of them. Though do keep in mind they're not all-powerful — any wish beyond their limit simply cannot be granted."
Ryū took the ball, nodded, and gave a light laugh. "Don't worry... I won't be wishing for anything that would harm humanity, or this Earth. You can set your mind at ease on that front."
Finding an open clearing, Ryū set all seven Dragon Balls down together, and, following Kami's instructions, worked through the necessary steps for summoning the dragon.
That included a suitably over-the-top chuunibyou incantation — which, naturally, Ryū had Master Roshi handle the shouting of.
"Appear, Shenron! Grant my wish!!"
The instant the words left Roshi's mouth, the sky went dark all at once.
It felt as if heaven and earth themselves had shifted color in a single heartbeat.
