Chapter 146: Into the Qin's Moon World
Kaguya-sama: I can't believe it. I thought my four was the lowest — turns out Yukari-nee-san is dead last with a one.
Eternally Seventeen: ...
Edward Newgate: Gurararara — looks like this old man has a slot after all.
Eternally Seventeen: ...
Admiral Kizaru: Hold on, hold on. If I rolled a six, does that mean I actually have to file for six months' leave from the Fleet Admiral? That's somewhat frightening. He might actually kill me.
Admiral Kizaru: Though an opportunity like this doesn't come along easily. Missing it would be out of the question. It's just... fighting alongside Whitebeard feels deeply strange. So unfamiliar~
Eternally Seventeen: ...
Edward Newgate: Gurararara — you'll get used to it.
Terrible Tornado: Six points, one slot secured.
Terrible Tornado: Extremely satisfied~
RawrSoFierce: Also six.
Eternally Seventeen: ...
"..."
Only an unbroken string of ellipses could adequately express Yukari's current emotional state.
Counting the Admin, the Group had eleven members total. Ying Zheng was automatically excluded from the slot competition. Josuke, Wandering Little Planet, and Sakura had voluntarily withdrawn.
That left seven competing for four slots: the Admin, herself, Whitebeard, Kizaru, Tatsumaki, Kaguya, and Wolffy.
Four out of seven. A 57% success rate.
And she had failed.
AAAAAAAAAAAAA—
Fifty-seven percent. More than half. And she'd rolled a one.
Yukari lay collapsed on her tatami, staring at nothing.
Her entire life had lost its color.
Not her life — her youkai existence. Everything visible: black and white.
Forty thousand Points total across three Quests. After nearly half a year in the Chat Group, she understood exactly what that kind of Points reserve meant. What she could do with it.
The Dragon God?
She'd floor it.
"This is unacceptable... I must have done something wrong. Is this my zodiac year? That would explain it — quite possibly! Should I switch to red? Everything red — clothes, accessories—"
She muttered to herself, lying motionless.
"Hair dyed red. Red parasol. Red shoes. That level of auspicious color should dispel bad luck. Red contacts too? Red hat? Yes, noted. Red ornaments. Red outer robe."
"..."
Ptooey, ptooey. Zodiac year nothing! WHY is my luck this terrible?! Why does everyone else get to roll sixes?!
Is this what they call fate? Am I the legendary... Chronically Cursed Youkai Sage?
Why does that sound like the title of a slice-of-life anime?!
The internal ranting helped. It was the only thing keeping her from doing something rash.
Like going to find Chen and taking out her frustrations.
Meanwhile, in the Group chat:
RawrSoFierce: The JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Fan Version) — that's some author's fanfic. Just not sure which Part they based it on, or how far they deviated from the source.
Crazy Diamond: ...I'm just hoping it's not a fic that features me specifically.
Kaguya-sama: Relax. Even if this fan world has a version of Josuke in it, killing him wouldn't affect you at all.
Crazy Diamond: ...Technically true, but emotionally complicated.
Crazy Diamond:whimper
RawrSoFierce: Confirmed participants: me, Whitebeard, Tatsumaki, Kizaru. Any objections?
Kaguya-sama: None here.
Wandering Little Planet: None here.
Sakura of the Tohsaka: Same, no objections.
Crazy Diamond: Sakura, you broke the echo chain — that's punishable!
Terrible Tornado: Hmm?!
Kaguya-sama: Hmm?!
Eternally Seventeen: Hmm?!
Crazy Diamond:whimper...
"..."
Ryū didn't know which country's author had written the JoJo fan fic, or what exactly they'd changed about the source material. But for a fan work to have generated its own nascent world-consciousness — its own Gaia — it had to have some real weight behind it. Significant readership, probably. A large enough fiction to take on genuine world-scale mass.
Given that the Chat Group only ever seemed to pull members from popular franchises and high-traffic stories, the power scaling in that world was likely to track closely to canonical JoJo.
Which meant: most things manageable, except for a few Stands with abilities that were genuinely broken in specific ways.
The bigger concern was conventional military force. Modern armies. And at the upper end of that concern — nuclear weapons. A large-scale modern military deciding to push through the spatial passage at full conventional capacity was a real and serious problem.
That assessment was all speculation for now. They'd know more once they arrived.
Ryū opened crossing permissions for Whitebeard, Kizaru, Tatsumaki, and himself in sequence, set the destination — Ying Zheng's Qin's Moon world — and tagged them in the Group.
RawrSoFierce: @Admiral Kizaru @Terrible Tornado @Edward Newgate — permissions are open. Whenever you're ready, we can depart.
Edward Newgate: Gurararara — give this old man a moment to say a word to my sons first.
Terrible Tornado: I need to put in a leave request with the Hero Association.
Admiral Kizaru: What a hassle~ Well, I'll just write a letter to the Fleet Admiral. By the time it reaches him, I'll already be in another world~
Admiral Kizaru: ...Somehow that feels like I'm writing my own eulogy?
