Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

After I realized I now had the ability to hear things from far away, I decided to test it.

I closed my eyes and tried to focus, trying to hear something far away. But all I could hear were noises. They were messy and mixed together, making it impossible to understand anything clearly.

I tried again.

But it was still the same.

Before I realized it, I had already spent an hour just trying to do this. I was about to give up when suddenly I heard a sharp scream.

It was loud.

It sounded like someone crying for help.

My breathing slowed as I tried to block out all the other noises. Slowly, the other sounds faded, and that particular scream became clearer.

I didn't know what to do, but someone was in trouble.

Before I knew it, I was already running in the direction of the voice.

"What am I trying to do?" I asked myself while running.

"I'm not some superhero trying to save lives. I can barely handle my own."

Soon I found myself inside a forest. Tall trees surrounded me, and the place was quiet like a graveyard. But because of my hearing ability, I could still hear the voice clearly.

I hid behind one of the trees and looked toward where the sound was coming from.

I saw a guy and a girl together.

At first, it looked like they were making out.

But the words coming from the girl's mouth didn't match what I was seeing.

Without thinking, I rushed forward and pulled the guy away from her.

Then I saw his face.

Below his eyes were black veins, spreading across his skin. His mouth opened, revealing bloody fangs.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Is that human?" I wondered.

"What kind of creature is this?"

The guy stood up and was about to attack me. He was fast.

But I realized something.

I was faster.

"What a little wolf I got here," he said.

"Wolf?" I murmured under my breath, but I was too afraid to even think about what that meant.

He lunged at me again, his claws aimed at my throat..

"You got some skill, little wolf," he said with a grin.

"But I'm done playing with you."

He used his full power to attack me.

For a moment, I thought this was the end for me.

But just as he lunged forward—

An arrow shot through the air.

It struck him instantly, taking him down.

I froze.

My mind began racing.

What if the person who shot the arrow was an enemy?

What if they were going to kill me too?

Before I could think any further, someone tapped my shoulder.

I quickly turned around.

It was Philip.

Relief washed over me immediately.

He asked if I was okay, and I nodded.

In my heart, I said, Thank goodness.

Then I pointed toward the girl I had tried to save.

Philip walked over and checked her.

After a moment, he looked at me and said quietly,

"She's dead."

My chest tightened.

I wanted to cry.

I couldn't save her.

Anyone would be traumatized after something like that. Days… maybe even months.

But Philip insisted that we leave.

He grabbed my arm and dragged me away.

As we walked away, I couldn't stop thinking about that man's words.

" little wolf".
