Before that kiss deepened, the manga panel Su Li sketched captured a seductive close-up of Yang Qianqian's lips. The studio was quiet, filled only with the rhythmic scratching of the pen nib against the high-quality paper and the faint, electrical hum of the desk lamp, and the faint song she play. The lips on the page parted slightly in surprise, glistening under the imagined moonlight like dew-kissed petals awaiting the dawn.
While drawing that alluring mouth, Su Li found herself breathing heavily, her heart thumping against her ribs in a frantic rhythm. She felt completely excited, as if she had stepped through the ink and into the manga world, watching Xu Jing and Yang Qianqian's first intimate moment from a few inches away. Her pen trembled slightly on the page. This wasn't from fatigue or the late hour, but from the rush of vicarious thrill coursing through her veins as she rendered the delicate moisture of the contact.
Naturally, Xu Jing's dark and unfathomable eyes also received a close-up in the artwork. They held depths that seemed to swallow the very light of the room, reflecting a storm of emotions she rarely let surface. Within those obsidian spheres lay a tangled mess of longing, possession, and a blackened resolve forged from the fires of loss.
In her blackened state, Xu Jing had moved through the story like a cold, calculating ghost, orchestrating chaos with the precision of a master architect. She had ensured that Yang Ming's harem targets entangled themselves with him in the most public, devastating way possible. She had timed it all perfectly, leading Yang Qianqian back to that living room at the exact moment the betrayal was most visible.
It was a calculated cruelty, a scorched-earth tactic born from the jagged fear that without Qianqian as her sole anchor, she might shatter into a thousand pieces. Yet here, in the dim sanctuary of the rented room, gazing at Yang Qianqian with a devotion that bordered on worship, those eyes softened just enough to reveal the raw, bleeding vulnerability hidden beneath the void.
When Yang Qianqian asked what kind of person she liked, Xu Jing said nothing. The question hung in the air, heavy and unanswered, as Xu Jing simply leaned forward and kissed her. Their lips met and lingered together in a tentative exploration that tasted of salt from Qianqian's earlier tears and the metallic tang of unspoken confessions.
The kiss was a revelation for them both. It felt soft at first, like the brush of silk against heated skin, but it carried the crushing weight of Xu Jing's entire fractured world. Her heart pounded erratically against her chest wall. Each heavy beat reminded her that Qianqian was her only anchor in a world she had intentionally set on fire. She was the only light piercing the thick, suffocating darkness that had consumed Xu Jing since her life had first unraveled.
The kiss only lasted a short moment, but in that brevity, time seemed to stretch into something eternal. The sounds of the city outside faded into insignificance. Their lips separated with a soft, reluctant parting, the air between them suddenly cold. Xu Jing turned over and pressed Yang Qianqian beneath her soft body, the mattress creaking slightly under the shift in weight.
Her hands rested beside Yang Qianqian's shoulders, her arms locking as she supported her upper body. The posture was an intimate entrapment, a kabedon of sorts where escape felt both impossible and undesired. She looked down at the completely stunned girl beneath her, her hair splayed across the pillow like a halo. Her breath came in shallow waves that betrayed the turmoil within.
Moonlight filtered through the thin, dusty curtains of the rented room. It painted the space in silver hues that made their skin glow ethereally against the dark shadows of the bedsheets. The background was breathtakingly beautiful. It was a canvas of shadows and light that amplified the raw vulnerability of the moment, turning the dingy love hotel into a sacred sanctuary.
Xu Jing's breathing grew quick and uneven. It was clearly audible in the absolute quiet of the night. Each inhale was laced with a sharp, desperate fear that this closeness might be fleeting. It felt like a borrowed warmth in her otherwise cold existence, a single candle held against a winter storm.
When Su Li drew the scenes between the male lead and the girls, she pushed provocation to its limits. She stimulated the readers' senses as much as possible with harsh angles, exaggerated expressions of ecstasy, and bodies twisted in exaggerated passion. She wanted to stir their blood and make them crave more of the bulldozer protagonist.
But the scenes between Xu Jing and Yang Qianqian were different. They pursued beauty to the extreme. Each panel was almost like a piece of art, crafted with flowing lines and subtle gradients that evoked a sense of sacred intimacy. Anyone reading it would feel a deep, haunting aesthetic pleasure. Their breath would catch not from shock, but from the sheer visual poetry of two souls meeting in the dark. The impact was astonishing. It was a quiet storm that lingered long after the page turned.
Xu Jing's face was completely flushed. The usual, doll-like pallor gave way to a rosy bloom that transformed her entire presence. She no longer resembled the emotionless "three no girl" she had always been. The labels no longer fit: no expression, no words, no attachments. Her world, once vast and indifferent, had narrowed to this single point of light.
Yang Qianqian.
Another close-up focused on Xu Jing's dark eyes. Yang Qianqian's beautiful face was reflected there like a fragile mirage in still water. Still confused, she asked softly, "Xiao Jing?"
Her voice trembled. It was a mix of innocence and awakening desire. Her heart raced with the unfamiliar thrill of being seen so profoundly, as if someone were looking at her soul for the first time.
Xu Jing didn't answer with words. She simply looked at her, looked into her, as if trying to memorize every detail illuminated by the moonlight. The silver light traced the curve of Yang Qianqian's cheek, caught in the moisture of her parted lips, and pooled in the confusion of her eyes.
Slowly, as if moving through water, Xu Jing raised her hand. Her fingers hovered near Yang Qianqian's face, trembling almost imperceptibly. She was waiting. She was giving her time to pull away.
Yang Qianqian didn't move.
The first touch was featherlight. It was just the barest brush of knuckles against her cheek, tracing the path a tear might take. Xu Jing's skin was cool, but warmth bloomed beneath it like flowers opening after rain.
"Xiao Jing..." Yang Qianqian breathed again, but this time the name carried a different weight. It was less of a question and more of a wonder.
Xu Jing's thumb traced her cheekbone. Then she touched the corner of her eye. Then she moved down, following the line of her nose, pausing at the peak of her upper lip.
"You are real," Xu Jing whispered. The words seemed to escape without permission, raw and unguarded. "Sometimes I think I dreamed you. That I will wake up and you will be gone, and I will be back in that cold place with nothing."
Yang Qianqian's heart clenched. This was a Xu Jing she had never seen. The mask was gone, and there was something vulnerable and terrified beneath it. "I'm here, Xiao Jing. I'm right here."
"I know." Xu Jing's smile was sad and fleeting. "For now."
Before Yang Qianqian could ask what that meant, Xu Jing's hand slid to the back of her neck, her fingers threading into her hair. The gesture was gentle but possessive. She pulled her closer, not for a kiss, not yet. She pulled her closer until their foreheads touched and their breath mingled in the small space between them.
They stayed like that for a long moment. Their eyes were closed. They were breathing together. The world reduced to this: warmth, proximity, and the subtle scent of each other.
When Xu Jing spoke again, her voice was barely a vibration. "Do you know how long I have wanted this? Just this. Just to hold you without pretending I don't want to."
Yang Qianqian's eyes stung. She didn't deserve this devotion. She didn't understand it. "I—I don't know what to say."
"Say nothing." Xu Jing pulled back just enough to look at her. "Just stay here. Stay with me."
Her hand remained tangled in Yang Qianqian's hair. Her other hand rose to mirror it, framing her face, her thumbs brushing her cheekbones. She looked at her the way someone might look at a masterpiece. She was reverent, awed, almost pained by the beauty of it.
Then, slowly, Xu Jing leaned in.
She didn't kiss her mouth. She kissed her forehead. It was a long, gentle press that seemed to carry everything she couldn't say. Then she kissed each eyelid, closed and trembling. She kissed the tip of her nose. She kissed the corner of her mouth, hovering there, her breath warm against her lips.
Yang Qianqian's hands, which had been frozen at her sides, finally lifted. They rested against Xu Jing's shoulders. They weren't pushing; they were just touching. She was feeling the reality of her and the slight tremor in her frame.
"Xiao Jing," she whispered against her lips, "what are we doing?"
Xu Jing pulled back again. Her dark eyes searched Yang Qianqian's face, reading something there that made her expression flicker. Hope and hurt and fierce determination were warring behind her calm facade.
"I don't know," she admitted. The honesty was raw and disarming. "I only know I can't stop. I have tried. Every day I have tried not to want you like this. And every day I fail."
Her thumb traced Yang Qianqian's lower lip, barely touching it, watching the way it parted slightly at the contact.
"Tell me to stop," Xu Jing said quietly. "Tell me you don't want this, really don't want it, and I will. I will go back to being your friend. I will smile and nod and pretend this never happened. I will die inside every day, but I will do it. For you."
The words hung between them, heavy with sacrifice.
Yang Qianqian should say it. She should end this before it went any further. She should protect them both from whatever came next, from the chaos that threatened to drown them both in this dim, rented room. The air was still and heavy, smelling faintly of the city outside.
But looking into Xu Jing's eyes, seeing the raw desperation carefully hidden beneath a layer of practiced calm, Yang Qianqian felt her resolve crumble. She saw the way Xu Jing's hands trembled slightly as they cupped her face. She saw the way she held herself perfectly still, as if she were a prisoner awaiting an execution. Yang Qianqian found that she simply couldn't do it.
"I don't want you to stop," Yang Qianqian heard herself whisper. The words sounded small and fragile in the quiet space between them.
Something broke open in Xu Jing's expression then. Relief and agony tangled together in her dark, focused gaze. "Then don't push me away. Not tonight. Just... let me have this. Let me have you."
Her lips found Yang Qianqian's again. It wasn't the fierce, sudden kiss from before, but something much softer and more cautious. It was questioning. A brush, then another, each one asking if this was truly all right. Yang Qianqian answered by not pulling away. She tilted her head slightly, letting her lips part just enough for them to share the same breath, her heart drumming a frantic rhythm against her ribs.
The kiss deepened gradually and naturally, like a river finding its course after a sudden storm. Xu Jing's hands slid from her face and into her hair, her fingers angling her head to find a better fit. Yang Qianqian's grip on Xu Jing's shoulders tightened. She held on as the world seemed to tilt on its axis, leaving only the two of them in the silver light.
When they finally broke apart, both breathing hard, Xu Jing's usual, porcelain paleness had given way to a flush that made her look almost alive. She was transformed, her skin glowing in the dim light. The cold, academic genius had vanished, replaced by someone burning with a quiet intensity.
"You are nervous," Xu Jing observed. Her voice was steadier now, but it carried that new, heavy tenderness that felt almost like a weight.
"Of course I'm nervous." Yang Qianqian glanced away, her cheeks burning with a deep heat. Her fingers twisted in the coarse, white sheets, seeking some kind of anchor in the shifting reality. The weight of what was happening, and what could happen next, crashed over her in waves.
"Why? Because I'm a girl?"
The question hung heavy in the air. It probed the edges of their bond, testing the strength of the invisible threads that had held them together for so long.
Yang Qianqian covered her burning cheeks with her palms. "Because Xiao Jing is my friend."
The words landed like stones in still water, ripples spreading through the silence of the room. Xu Jing's eyes flickered. There was hurt and resignation there, and beneath that, something dangerous and determine that refused to yield to the pain. She reached out and gently pulled Yang Qianqian's hands from her face, her touch gentle but insistent.
"Friend," Xu Jing repeated. The word tasted strange on her tongue, bitter and cold as it filled the space between them.
Then she leaned in and kissed her again. It was fiercer this time, more insistent, as if she could kiss the word away and replace it with something more permanent. She moved with a desperate hunger, as if she could make herself into something more than just a background presence in Yang Qianqian's life.
This kiss was deeper and hungrier. Their lips parted to allow their tongues to meet in a rhythm that spoke of unspoken promises and hidden, jagged pains. When they separated this time, a thin thread of saliva connected them briefly before breaking. It was a silver strand in the moonlight. It symbolized the unbreakable, if tangled, thread that now bound their souls together.
She looked down at the stunned girl beneath her, her hair splayed like a dark fan on the pillow. The moonlight filtered through the curtains and painted them both in silver, making their skin glow with an ethereal light. It turned the moment into something sacred and forbidden.
"You can do this with me," Xu Jing said quietly. Her voice was a mere whisper against Yang Qianqian's heated skin. "Yet you still can't forget your Gege. Right?"
The word "Gege" struck like a cold dagger, twisting in the air of the dim room. It evoked the dark, undercurrents of her unwavering love for her brother, Yang Ming. He was the male lead whose harem ensnared everyone in its path, yet it had left Yang Qianqian on the cold periphery by her own exclusion.
The moment Yang Qianqian heard the word "Gege," tears welled in her eyes. They shimmered like unshed diamonds under the faint moonlight that filtered through the curtains. No matter what happened, the person she loved most was still her older brother. This was simply how the world of Pure Love worked. It was a harem manga where loyalties were etched in ink. Those loyalties remained unchangeable despite the chaos Xu Jing had sown by forcing those other girls into his arms.
In the manga's setting, Yang Qianqian was the girl who loved Yang Ming the most. Her affection was a core trait that defined her entire existence. It was much like Xu Jing's devotion defined her own path. Characters in a manga world didn't change their feelings as easily as people did in reality. They were bound by the artist's whims and the expectations of the genre. Yet here, in this intimate space, those bindings chafed raw against their skin.
She didn't sob. She didn't make a sound. But her lips trembled, and that was somehow worse than a loud outburst. It was the silence of her crying. It was the way she tried to hold it in, to be strong, to not let Xu Jing see how deeply that single word had cut.
Xu Jing saw everything.
She watched the first tear escape, trailing down Yang Qianqian's temple and disappearing into the dark strands of her hair. She watched her bite her lower lip to stop its trembling, the soft skin turning white under the pressure. She watched her eyes dart away, unable to meet her gaze, as she was ashamed of a truth she couldn't control.
"She is crying because of him," Xu Jing realized. "Because I said his name. Because even here, even now, with my body pressed against hers and my lips still warm from kissing her, he is between us."
The thought should have angered her. It should have fed the part of her soul that had orchestrated so much chaos, that had destroyed Yang Ming's harem possibilities out of spite, and that had manipulated and schemed to isolate Qianqian for this very moment.
Instead, it just hurt.
Xu Jing's heart fractured. It didn't happen dramatically, not with sound or fury, but quietly, like ice cracking beneath a slow, heavy weight in the middle of a winter night. Each fracture spread through her chest. Thin lines of pain radiated outward, cold and sharp.
"I did this," she thought. "I'm the one making her cry. The one person I swore I would never hurt. The only light in all this darkness, and I'm the one making her cry."
Her expressionless mask, worn for so long it felt like her own skin, softened despite herself. It didn't melt into warmth, as she wasn't capable of that anymore, but it shifted into something lonely and melancholy. It was someone's face standing in the rain, watching the last window of light close in the distance.
Shadows played across her features, ghosts of what could have been. There could have been a world where she had met Qianqian first. There could have been a world where her heart hadn't already been given to someone unworthy. There could have been a world where she could love without this desperate, clawing need that poisoned everything it touched.
"I'm sorry," Xu Jing whispered. The words surprised her. She hadn't meant to say them aloud in the absolute stillness of the room. "I shouldn't have... I didn't mean to..."
She stopped. She swallowed hard, trying to gather the scattered pieces of her composure.
Her arms, which had been holding her above Yang Qianqian, began to tremble with the effort of staying up. They shook with the effort of not collapsing entirely onto the girl beneath her.
"If you don't want to," Xu Jing said slowly, each word costing her a piece of her soul, "just say it. All right?"
Her voice cracked on the word "say." It was a tiny fissure in her carefully constructed calm.
"Please don't say it. Please don't push me away. I will die if you push me away. But I will die more if I see you cry again because of me."
The offer hung in the air like an exit door held open by shaking hands. Xu Jing's blackened heart screamed at her to take it back, to lean down and kiss her again, and to bury them both in sensation until Yang Qianqian forgot her brother's name. But something deeper, something that had loved Qianqian long before the darkness consumed her, kept the door open.
True love, she had learned, meant freedom. Even if that freedom destroyed her completely.
Yang Qianqian's tears fell faster now, dampening the pillow, but her answer came immediately. It was soft, but it was immediate.
"No."
One syllable. Xu Jing's entire world paused in that single breath.
Yang Qianqian's hand lifted. It moved slowly and was trembling as it touched Xu Jing's cheek. Her fingers were wet with tears and felt warm against Xu Jing's cool skin. She cupped her face like she was holding something precious, something incredibly breakable.
"Why?" Xu Jing pressed. The word escaped before she could stop it, raw with an agonizing need. She caught Yang Qianqian's hand with her own, pressing it harder against her cheek, desperate for the solid contact. "Why, Qianqian? Tell me why."
"Give me something to hold onto. Give me a reason to keep hoping. Give me anything, a crumb or a lie, I don't care. Just tell me why you won't leave."
"Because I like Xiao Jing."
The words were soft and sincere. They were utterly devastating.
Xu Jing heard everything in them. She heard the genuine affection, the warmth, and the care. She also heard what wasn't there. She heard the absence of the desperation she felt. She heard the lack of the all-consuming need. She heard the way love could make you burn and freeze at the same time.
"Friendship," Xu Jing realized. "She likes me the way you like a friend. She likes me the way you like someone you don't want to lose, but could survive losing."
The knowledge should have destroyed her. Instead, something in Xu Jing went very, very still.
Her expression smoothed back into its usual calm emptiness. That familiar mask slid into place like a piece of armor. But her eyes... her eyes grew deeper and darker, a well of unspoken agony so vast that looking into it too long would mean drowning.
"This is enough," she told herself fiercely. "It has to be enough. She is here. She is with me. She said she likes me. Those words mean something. They have to mean something."
In her heart, Xu Jing made a choice. If she couldn't have Qianqian's heart entirely, if that organ would always belong to her worthless brother and to that bond written into the very fabric of this manga world, then she would take what she could get.
She would hoard these moments like a miser hoards copper coins. She would memorize every touch, every glance, and every whispered word. She would build a fortress of memories to sustain her through the cold nights ahead, when Qianqian would inevitably return to him, and she would be alone again.
"If I can't have your heart, then at least let me keep your warmth."
The thought pierced deeper than any physical wound. Thorns embedding with each breath, twisting, making a nest of pain in her chest that would never fully heal.
But when she spoke again, her voice was steady. It was controlled. Only someone looking very closely, only someone who truly loved her, would notice the almost imperceptible tremor beneath each word. It was a vibration born from a hunger so deep it threatened to consume her from the inside out.
"Then compensate me properly. All right?"
She leaned in, her lips brushing against the sensitive curve of Yang Qianqian's ear. Her breath was hot and teasing. It was a stark contrast to the metaphorical ice spreading through her own veins as she realized how much of a substitute she had become.
But before she did anything else—before her teeth found that soft earlobe or her hands began to wander—Xu Jing paused. She pulled back just enough to look into those tear-filled eyes, the moonlight reflecting in the moisture like distant stars.
"Qianqian." Her voice dropped even lower. It was intimate and serious, stripped of all its usual academic detachment. "I need you to understand something. When I say 'compensate me,' I don't mean... I'm not keeping score. I'm not asking you to pay me back for anything I have done. I just..."
She struggled for the right words for the first time in years. As a background character, she had never needed them, but now the silence was an enemy. "I just want to feel you. All of you. For as long as you will let me. That is all I have ever wanted."
The confession hung between them in the cramped room, raw and unprotected. Xu Jing's blackened soul felt exposed, but she didn't care. She had already torn the world apart to get to this bed.
Yang Qianqian's tears had slowed, but her eyes still glistened in the dark. She looked at Xu Jing. She really looked and saw something she had never noticed before. It wasn't the cold, expressionless "three no girl" everyone else saw in the school hallways. It wasn't even the devoted friend who always appeared when she was needed. It was something more fragile. It was something more human.
"Xiao Jing..." she whispered. She didn't know what was supposed to follow. She only knew she needed to say her name, to anchor herself to the person looming over her.
Xu Jing's lips curved. It wasn't quite a smile, but it was something close. It was something sad and tender and terribly hopeful all at once. It was the expression of a person who knew they were falling but loved the view.
Then she lowered her head again.
This time, her teeth found Yang Qianqian's earlobe. They were soft and exploratory, a question wrapped in sudden sensation. It wasn't hard. It was a nibble that promised more than it delivered.
Yang Qianqian's breath caught, her chest hitching as her body betrayed her before her mind could catch up.
Xu Jing's hands began to move.
They didn't rush. They didn't grab. They explored with a deliberate precision, as if she had all the time in the world and intended to memorize every inch of fabric-covered skin. Her palm slid down Yang Qianqian's side, following the curve of her waist. Her fingers pressed just enough to feel the heat beneath the cotton shirt. It was slow. It was deliberate. Each inch of contact left a trail of fire that lingered even after her hand passed.
Yang Qianqian's heart hammered against her ribs. "This is Xiao Jing. This is my friend. This is—"
Xu Jing's hand reached her hip. It paused there for a second. Then it traced back up, this time along the soft plane of her stomach, her fingertips skating lightly over her navel through the thin fabric. The touch was so soft it almost tickled, but the intention behind it was anything but playful.
"Xiao Jing..." Yang Qianqian's voice came out breathless. it was a half protest and a half plea. She didn't know which she wanted more—for this to stop, or for it to never stop.
Xu Jing's didn't answer with words. Her lips replaced her teeth on Yang Qianqian's earlobe, kissing the spot she had just nibbled to soothe it. Her hand continued its journey upward, her fingers slipping beneath the shirt's hem to meet bare, velvet skin.
The contact made them both gasp.
Xu Jing's fingers were cool against her heated stomach, but they warmed quickly as they spread. Her palm flattened against her. It wasn't moving now. It was just there. She was feeling her. She was feeling the way her muscles tensed, the way her breath hitched, and the way her body leaned into the touch even as her mind screamed warnings of betrayal.
"Xiao Jing..." Yang Qianqian's hands, which had been frozen at her sides, finally moved. They grabbed Xu Jing's wrist. She wasn't pushing away; she was just holding on as if anchoring herself to reality.
"Xiao Jing, I—" She didn't know how to finish that thought. Was she scared? Did she want this? Did she deserve this while she was still thinking about her brother even now?
Xu Jing stopped. She pulled back just enough to look at her face. In the moonlight, her dark eyes held no judgment. They held only a deep patience, and beneath that, something raw and hungry was being carefully leashed.
"Do you want me to stop?" Xu Jing asked.
The question hung between them, heavy with consequence.
Yang Qianqian should say yes. She knew she should. This was wrong. It wasn't because they were both girls, but because her heart still belonged to someone else. It was because she was using Xiao Jing's feelings like a blanket to ward off her own cold.
Xu Jing's hand hadn't moved from beneath her shirt. Her thumb traced a small, mesmerizing circle against her ribs. She was gentle. She was waiting.
"If she stops now," Yang Qianqian thought, "she will pull away. She will put that empty mask back on. And I will lose this warmth forever."
"No," Yang Qianqian whispered. Her grip on Xu Jing's wrist loosened. "Don't stop."
Something flickered in Xu Jing's eyes. It was triumph and sorrow tangled together in the dark. She lowered her head again, but instead of returning to her ear, she pressed her lips to the neck's curve. She gave her a kiss. Then another. Each one was slower and deeper as her hand resumed its upward path.
Her fingers reached the underside of Yang Qianqian's breast. They paused at that curve's edge.
Yang Qianqian's breath stopped entirely.
Xu Jing's thumb brushed the lower swell. It was barely there, asking for permission. When Yang Qianqian didn't pull away—when she found she couldn't move and could barely breathe—her hand cupped her fully through the thin bra. It was gentle and reverent. It was as if she were holding something sacred.
A sound escaped Yang Qianqian's throat. It was small and broken. It wasn't quite a moan, but it wasn't quite a whimper.
"Shh," Xu Jing whispered against her neck. "I have you. I'm right here."
Her thumb found the center, circling slowly over the fabric. Each pass sent sparks through Yang Qianqian's body, gathering a heavy heat low in her belly. Her hips shifted restlessly against the bed, searching for something she couldn't name.
Xu Jing noticed. Of course she noticed. Her thigh pressed between Yang Qianqian's legs. It wasn't hard; it was just there, a pressure that made the girl gasp and arch her back.
"You are so warm," Xu Jing murmured against her ear. Her voice was different. It was lower and rougher, stripped of the calm emptiness she usually wore like a suit of armor. "You are always so warm. I have wanted to feel this for so long."
"You like that," Xu Jing observed. it wasn't a question. Her voice held a note of wonder, as if she were discovering something precious.
"I—I don't—" Yang Qianqian's words dissolved as Xu Jing's thigh pressed again. It was firmer this time. Her hips moved on their own, grinding against the fabric and seeking friction.
Xu Jing watched her. She memorized her. She watched the way her eyes fluttered half-closed. She watched the way her lips parted. She watched the way her body moved in rhythms she didn't control.
"So beautiful," Xu Jing breathed. "You are so beautiful like this, Qianqian. Don't hide from me. Let me see you."
Her hand left Yang Qianqian's breast. The girl almost cried out at the loss, but the hand only reached behind her back. Fingers found her bra's clasp. They hesitated there.
"May I?"
Two words. They were simple and devastating.
Yang Qianqian should think about it. She should weigh the consequences. She should remember her brother and her loyalty and everything that made her who she was.
Instead, she nodded.
The clasp gave way with a soft click.
Yang Qianqian felt the bra loosen, the sudden release of tension making her heart skip a beat. She felt the fabric go slack against her skin, the weight of her secret desires finally unburdened. She felt the cool air of the room brush where warmth had been contained, a sharp contrast to the heat radiating from Xu Jing's body. She should cover herself. She should feel exposed and ashamed. Instead, she felt strangely freed. It was as if Xu Jing had undone more than just cloth; she had unlatched a cage.
Xu Jing didn't immediately remove the garment. She waited, her dark eyes searching Yang Qianqian's face for any sign of hesitation, giving her time to change her mind. Her fingers traced along the straps instead, sliding them down her shoulders with agonizing slowness. She kissed each inch of revealed skin. She touched the curve of a shoulder, the hollow of a collarbone, and the place where her neck met her chest.
When the bra finally slipped away, discarded somewhere in the pale moonlight, Xu Jing simply looked at her.
The room seemed to shrink around them, the air growing thick with the scent of their shared breath. The moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. It highlighted Yang Qianqian's breasts' gentle swell and the way her nipples tightened under Xu Jing's heavy gaze. It traced the rise and fall of her chest with each shallow, desperate breath.
Xu Jing looked at her the way someone might look at a sacred temple, with a mix of reverence and awe. She carried the terrifying awareness of being unworthy of such beauty.
"You are so beautiful," Xu Jing whispered. It wasn't flattery, but a simple observation of an undeniable truth. "I knew you would be. I have imagined... but it's nothing compared to this."
She couldn't finish the thought. Her hand lifted, hovering in the space between them, asking for silent permission.
Yang Qianqian nodded. She couldn't speak. She could barely breathe.
The first touch was featherlight. It was just the barest brush of fingertips against her breast's underside. Xu Jing traced the curve slowly, following its shape and learning it by heart. Then she moved higher, her palm finally cupping her fully. It was warm against her cool skin.
Yang Qianqian's eyes fluttered closed. The sensation was overwhelming. It was not just the physical touch, but everything it carried. She felt Xu Jing's devotion and her silent wanting. She felt Xu Jing's desperate need to be close, to touch, and to prove something Yang Qianqian couldn't yet name.
Xu Jing's thumb found her nipple. She circled it once, then twice. Each pass sent sparks through her body, gathering like heat in her belly. Yang Qianqian gasped, her hips shifting involuntarily against the mattress.
"Does that feel good?" Xu Jing asked. Her voice was hushed and reverent, as if she needed confirmation that she was doing this right.
"Yes," Yang Qianqian breathed. "Yes, Xiao Jing, it feels..."
She couldn't finish. Xu Jing's mouth replaced her thumb. It was warm and wet, and Yang Qianqian's back arched off the bed. A sound escaped her. It was high and broken, and she didn't recognize it as her own voice.
Xu Jing's other hand came up to cup her other breast. She kneaded the soft flesh gently while her tongue circled and teased. She alternated between soft licks and gentle suction. She learned what made Yang Qianqian gasp, what made her moan, and what made her fingers tangle in Xu Jing's hair and hold her closer.
"Xiao Jing... ahh... that's..." Yang Qianqian's words dissolved into incoherence.
Xu Jing pulled back just enough to look at her. She was flushed and breathless, her eyes glazed with a heavy pleasure. "Say my name again," she whispered. "Please. Say it like that again."
"Xiao Jing." Yang Qianqian's voice was thick with a messy, desperate want. "Xiao Jing, please..."
"Please what?" Xu Jing's lips trailed down across her friend's pale skin. She kissed the sensitive space between her breasts, then moved lower, her mouth tracing her hands' intended path. "Tell me what you want, Qianqian. Say it yourself."
But even as she asked the question, even as her mouth mapped a slow trail down Yang Qianqian's stomach and paused to circle her navel with her tongue's tip, Yang Qianqian's thoughts drifted away from the rented room.
Gege.
The name surfaced in her mind unbidden and unwanted. In the thick darkness behind her closed eyes, she saw him. She didn't see him as he was now, tangled in that awful woman's web. She saw him as he used to be. He was the brother who protected her. He was the one who held her when she cried. He was the one who made her feel safe in a way no one else ever had.
"Why am I thinking of him now? Why can't I stop?"
Xu Jing's lips reached her underwear's soft waistband. She looked up, and something in her expression flickered for a brief second. It was a moment of sharp, jagged knowing. It was a moment of deep pain that she quickly hid behind her mask.
"You are thinking of him," Xu Jing said quietly. She wasn't accusing. She was just stating a simple fact, as if she had always known this moment would come eventually.
Yang Qianqian's eyes flew open. A wave of guilt crashed through the lingering pleasure. "I... Xiao Jing, I didn't mean to... I'm sorry..."
Xu Jing silenced her by pressing a finger against her trembling lips. "Don't apologize. I knew. I have always known." Her smile was the saddest thing Yang Qianqian had ever seen in her life. "It's okay. I'm not him. I will never be him. But I'm here. I'm real. And right now, I'm the one touching you. I'm the one making you feel good. Can you stay with me? Just for tonight? Can you try?"
The question was so gentle and so accepting of her own inadequacy that Yang Qianqian's eyes burned with fresh, hot tears.
"I will try," she whispered. Her voice was broken. "I will try, Xiao Jing. I'm sorry. I will try."
Xu Jing leaned up and kissed her. The contact was soft and forgiving. It tasted of salt from the tears neither of them had fully shed. Then she returned to her task. She hooked her fingers into the sides of Yang Qianqian's underwear and slid them down slowly and deliberately. She watched her face the entire time, her gaze never wavering.
When they were gone, and when Yang Qianqian lay completely bare beneath her in the silver moonlight, Xu Jing simply looked at her. Her gaze traveled over every inch of exposed skin. She looked at her thighs and her hips. She looked at the dark triangle between them and the way her legs pressed together instinctively in a show of modesty.
"Don't hide," Xu Jing whispered. Her voice was a low, possessive command. "Please. Let me see all of you."
Yang Qianqian forced her legs to relax, allowing them to part slightly. The sudden exposure made her feel vulnerable in a way that simply being undressed had not. This went deeper. It was more intimate, a baring of her most private self to the silver moonlight and to the girl poised between her knees.
Xu Jing settled firmly between her thighs. Her body was a warm, steady weight against the mattress. Her breath ghosted over the sensitive, heated skin of her inner thigh, making Yang Qianqian shiver as goosebumps broke out across her legs.
"Qianqian, tell me what you want. Say it yourself." Xu Jing's voice was husky now, a thick desire threading through each syllable. Her fingers traced along her inner thigh, drawing slow, teasing circles that crept closer to her heat but never quite reached the center.
"I—I want..." Yang Qianqian's voice failed her. She had never said these words aloud to anyone. She had never been forced to acknowledge the hunger growing in her own belly.
Xu Jing's finger brushed against her core. It was just a touch, barely there, gliding through the slick, gathering heat. Yang Qianqian's hips jerked upward instinctively.
"That," she gasped, her eyes fluttering shut. "I want that. Please, Xiao Jing, I want..."
"Want what?" Xu Jing's finger circled lazily around her sensitive petals, never quite touching the spot she needed most. Her dark eyes watched Yang Qianqian's face with a predatory focus, drinking in every micro-expression and every flush of color. "Tell me. Say the words."
"I want you to touch me." The words tumbled out, desperate and shameless in the quiet of the room. "There. Please. Xiao Jing, please—"
Xu Jing's finger finally slid through her moisture, finding the sensitive bundle of nerves hidden there. She circled it slowly and deliberately, watching the way Yang Qianqian's face contorted with a messy, agonizing pleasure.
"Like this?"
"Yes—ahh—yes, like that—"
Xu Jing's other hand pressed against her thigh, spreading her even wider. Her finger continued its relentless rhythm. She was circling, pressing, and teasing. She watched with the focused attention of someone memorizing every detail of a masterpiece.
Yang Qianqian's hands clutched the sheets, her knuckles white. Her hips moved in a frantic counterpoint to Xu Jing's touch, chasing the sensation building deep inside her. The pleasure was overwhelming, a tide rising higher with each pass of Xu Jing's finger.
"Xiao Jing... I think... something is happening... I don't..."
Xu Jing leaned down and kissed her inner thigh, her lips warm and soft. "Let it happen. Don't fight it. I want to see you."
Her finger slid lower, pressing inside just slightly. It was just the tip, yet Yang Qianqian cried out at the sudden fullness.
"No, don't, ah..."
The protest was automatic and instinctive. Her body clenched around the intrusion even as her mind raced with a sudden, jagged confusion.
Xu Jing stopped immediately. Her finger stilled and then withdrew completely, leaving a cold, hollow silence. Her eyes burned with a restrained hunger. "Then we will stop. If you don't want to say it, we will really stop."
The withdrawal was worse than the intrusion. Yang Qianqian felt suddenly empty and bereft. She felt desperate for the warmth that had just been stolen away.
"Wait..." The word escaped her before she could stop it. Her body pressed closer to Xu Jing, seeking the lost contact. "Don't stop. Please don't stop."
Xu Jing's expression flickered. Sorrow and triumph tangled together in her gaze. "So you really can't resist pleasure."
"No, that's not it!"
Yang Qianqian's cheeks burned with a fierce heat. "It's just... when Xiao Jing touches me like that... it feels very comfortable so... I didn't mean to say no. I just... I have never..."
"Never?" Xu Jing's eyes widened slightly in the dark.
Yang Qianqian shook her head, feeling a profound embarrassment. "Never. Not even... I mean, with Gege we never..."
Something shifted in Xu Jing's expression then. A wave of protectiveness and tenderness washed over her features. She felt a fierce determination to make this right, to make this good, and to ensure she was the first and best memory of this kind of pleasure.
"Then let me show you," Xu Jing whispered. "Let me show you what it can feel like. With someone who loves you. With someone who wants you exactly as you are."
Her finger resumed its slow, rhythmic exploration. It was gentle and careful. She watched Yang Qianqian's face with intensity, looking for the slightest wince or sign of discomfort. She pressed inside just a little, waiting for her body to accept her, and then she pushed a little deeper into the slick, welcoming heat.
"Yes. That's because I'm touching the person I like, Qianqian." Her voice was a low, steady vibration in the quiet room. "I'm touching the person I like. That's why you can feel it. That's why it feels good. That's what liking someone means."
Xu Jing's words were a solemn vow. Her free hand cupped Yang Qianqian's flushed face, her thumb brushing away a warm tear she hadn't even noticed falling. She deepened her touch, finding a rhythmic pulse that made Yang Qianqian's breath catch and hold in her throat.
The pleasure built slowly this time, a massive wave gathering force in the dark. Xu Jing's finger curled inside her, finding a hidden spot that made stars burst behind her closed eyes. Her thumb circled her sensitive bud in a perfect counterpoint, driving her higher and higher.
"Xiao Jing... I... it's... I can't..." Yang Qianqian's voice was a fractured whisper.
"You can." Xu Jing's voice was steady and grounding. "Let go, Qianqian. I have you. I'm right here. Let go."
And Yang Qianqian did.
The wave crashed over her with a roar in her ears, pulling her under the surface. She cried out with wordless sounds that filled the moonlit room, the noise echoing off the thin walls. Her body clenched and released in powerful waves. Each one drew more sound, more sensation, and more of Xu Jing's whispered, possessive encouragements. When the tremors finally subsided, she lay gasping on the coarse sheets. She was trembling and utterly undone.
But Xu Jing wasn't finished.
As the intensity of the afterglow lingered, she shifted her weight. Her own body aligned with Yang Qianqian's in the silver light. She shed their remaining clothes with a careful, desperate urgency. Her own shirt and her own underwear were discarded in the shadows on the floor. Skin finally met skin in a heated fusion. Xu Jing's breasts pressed against hers, the contact making them both shudder as their peaks hardened in a mutual, electric arousal.
Xu Jing ground gently against her. Their petals brushed in a slick and intimate dance that drew synchronized gasps from both of them. Xu Jing's movements were deliberate and heavy. Her hips rolled in a slow, rhythmic grind that stimulated Yang Qianqian's sensitive bud against her own. She was building a friction that sparked like embers blown into a sudden flame.
"You feel that?" Xu Jing whispered against her damp ear. "You feel how good you make me feel? This is what you do to me, Qianqian. Just you. Always you."
Yang Qianqian's hands clutched at Xu Jing's bare back. Her nails dug lightly into the smooth skin as the pleasure mounted again. It was so soon, much too soon, but she found she couldn't stop it. "Xiao Jing... ahh... it's too much..."
"It isn't too much." Xu Jing's hips rolled faster now. Her breath came in ragged gasps. "It's exactly enough. It's perfect. You are perfect."
Their bodies moved together in an ancient rhythm. They were finding sync and building toward something profound and shared. Yang Qianqian's voice fractured into soft cries of "nnngh" and "ahh-ah-ahh" as the waves began to crest for the second time.
Xu Jing captured her lips, swallowing those desperate sounds. Her own release built in tandem with the girl's. It was a shared crescendo that bound them tighter together than any ink on a page could ever manage.
When they broke together, crying out into each other's mouths and clinging to each other as if the world might end, it was impossible to tell where one ended and the other began.
. . .
In the lingering aftermath, Xu Jing finally stopped her movements. She gently pulled Yang Qianqian into a tight, desperate embrace that seemed to speak of a thousand unspoken words. She pressed Yang Qianqian's head firmly against her chest, holding her as if she were the most precious treasure in her entire life. Her heartbeat was a steady drum against the girl's ear. It was fast and still racing from the intensity of what they had shared. The embrace was fierce and protective. It was laced with the heavy knowledge that this might only be temporary. She knew that Yang Qianqian's heart still belonged to her brother.
But for now, just for this single night, Yang Qianqian was hers.
Xu Jing's movements stilled first. Her hands, her hips, and her breath all seemed to settle into the quiet of the room. For a long moment, she remained suspended above Yang Qianqian. Her eyes were closed and her forehead was almost touching the other girl's, as if she were afraid that ending this physical connection would break a fragile spell. Then, slowly and carefully, she lowered herself to the side. She gathered Yang Qianqian back into her arms.
The embrace was fierce from the very start. It was protective and possessive. Xu Jing pressed Yang Qianqian's head against her chest. One of her hands cradled the back of her head, her fingers tangling in the damp hair. The other was wrapped tightly around her waist, pulling her close until there was no space left between their bodies. Her heartbeat thundered against Yang Qianqian's ear. It was fast and uneven. It was nothing like the calm, hollow exterior she always presented to the rest of the world.
"She is real," Xu Jing thought. Her lips pressed softly against the top of Yang Qianqian's hair, breathing in the floral scent that still lingered. "She is here. She is mine for this moment at least. No one can take this away from me."
But even as she held on with everything she had, even as she breathed in the scent of her, the cold knowledge crept in. It's like ice seeping through the cracked walls of her heart. This was temporary. Qianqian's heart—her true heart, the one that truly mattered—still belonged to someone else.
It belonged to her brother. It belonged to that constant in her world that Xu Jing could never truly compete with. She could never replace him. She could never even fight him fairly because the very laws of this manga world had already decided the outcome in ink.
Xu Jing's arms tightened unconsciously around the smaller girl. It was as if she could physically prevent the inevitable departure.
"Just like Yang Qianqian will always love her older brother no matter what," she reminded herself with a bitter clarity. "Even if he becomes a terrible person, she will still love him. In her heart, she believes he was only temporarily tempted by that awful woman. She will always trust him. After all, she is his perfect younger sister."
And Xu Jing could never abandon her either. She knew this. She knew she was, perhaps, only a temporary substitute. She was a warm body to fill the space her brother had left empty with his repeated betrayals. She knew that one day Qianqian would leave. She would return to him. She would look back on this night as a mistake, a confusion, or a momentary lapse in judgment.
The pain of that inevitability gnawed at Xu Jing's chest like a living thing with sharp, relentless teeth. But she buried it deep inside her soul. She focused instead on the warmth in her arms and on the rhythmic rise and fall of Qianqian's breathing. She felt the way their legs remained tangled together beneath the thin blanket.
"For now," she told herself in the dark. "For now, this's enough."
But even as she thought the words, she knew they were a lie. It would never be enough. It could never be enough. And that knowledge was its own kind of torture.
Yang Qianqian lay still in Xu Jing's arms, her body feeling heavy and satisfied in ways she had never imagined possible. Every nerve in her frame still hummed with a residual, electric pleasure. Her skin felt hypersensitive wherever Xu Jing had touched, kissed, or worshipped her during their shared fever. She should feel peaceful in this quiet room. She should feel content with the warmth of the blankets and the girl beside her.
Instead, her mind would not stop its frantic racing.
"A person can only give so much warmth," she thought, her eyes wide and staring at the shadows on the far wall. "I understand that. Yet I found satisfaction in Xiao Jing's warmth... only to arrive somewhere cold in the end. All alone."
The thought made no logical sense. She was literally wrapped in Xu Jing's embrace, skin to skin and heartbeat to heartbeat. But the cold she felt wasn't a physical chill from the air-conditioned room. It was something deeper and more ancient. It was the cold of knowing she had taken a piece of someone's soul that she could never return. It was the cold of using someone's deepest devotion as a temporary comfort while her heart remained anchored elsewhere.
On the surface, their bodies were intertwined beneath the blankets, their limbs entangled in a lover's knot. The scene was beautiful and peaceful. It was the kind of image that belonged in a frame rather than reality.
But inside her own consciousness, the image shifted into something much darker.
She was walking alone down an empty, nameless street. Rain fell in steady, gray sheets. It was cold and relentless. It soaked through her thin clothes, her hair, and her skin until she felt frozen to the bone. She held an umbrella. It was a flimsy, broken thing that felt useless against the downpour, but she didn't know why she continued to hold it. It offered no real shelter from the storm. The heavy droplets pattered against its surface with a rhythmic thud that matched the silent tears she held back but couldn't release.
"Why am I always so cold?" she wondered in the dream-rain. "Why is there never enough warmth to last until the morning?"
A voice slithered beside her ear then. It was insidious and familiar. It was the voice of her own guilt, given a sharp, mocking form.
"Hey. You and Xiao Jing can't go back to being just friends anymore. You know that, right?"
Yang Qianqian's steps faltered in the mental rain. The downpour grew even heavier, obscuring the world.
"It's your own fault. You noticed it today, didn't you?
For the first time in your life, you used someone else's feelings.
You knew she loved you. You knew she really loved you—not as a friend and not as a sister—and you let her touch you anyway.
You let her give you pleasure until you moaned her name. And all the while..."
The voice laughed. it was a cruel and knowing sound that echoed in her skull.
"All the while, you were thinking about him. You were thinking about your Gege. You were thinking about how his hands used to feel, his hugs, and his attention.
You replaced him with her body, but you didn't replace him with your heart.
You are just like that woman who stole him from you. You are both the same kind of scum.
Congratulations. Hehe..."
The accusation echoed through the empty street of her mind, bouncing off phantom buildings and growing louder instead of fading. Yang Qianqian pressed her hands over her ears in the dream, but it did nothing to stop the noise. The voice was inside her. It would always be inside her now.
"I am like her," Yang Qianqian realized with a dawning, suffocating horror. "I am exactly like that woman. She used Gege's feelings. She manipulated him and took what she wanted without caring about the cost. And I just did the same thing to Xiao Jing. I did it to the person who loves me most in this world. I used her."
Her eyes, still closed in the reality of the love hotel, grew wet. Fresh tears escaped her lashes, sliding silently onto Xu Jing's chest and being absorbed by her skin. Her throat closed up. The tears spilled over, silent and hot.
Why? The question rose from somewhere desperate and broken inside her.
"Why do you like someone like me so much, Xiao Jing? I don't understand. I know I'm using you, even if I didn't mean to, and even if I hate myself for it. And you just... you just hold me tighter. You just love me more."
The words escaped her lips before she could stop them. They were muffled against Xu Jing's shoulder and barely audible in the quiet room. They were laced with genuine bewilderment and a heavy remorse.
"Why do you like someone like me so much, Xiao Jing? I don't understand. Please forgive me. I really can't understand..."
For a long, terrible moment, nothing happened. Xu Jing didn't move and didn't respond. Yang Qianqian feared she had been asleep—that her confession had fallen on unhearing ears or that Xu Jing had heard and was choosing a crushing silence.
Then Xu Jing's arms tightened. Her lips pressed against the top of Yang Qianqian's head in a kiss that was slow and deliberate.
"Qianqian." Her voice was quiet but clear in the dark. "It's fine."
How can it be fine?
"I don't need you to understand."
Xu Jing's thumb traced slow, mesmerizing circles on Yang Qianqian's back.
"You don't have to figure it out. You don't have to explain it to yourself or to me.
I'm willing to give you everything—everything I have and everything I am—and you don't need to understand why. You just need to be here."
The words were meant to comfort her. Yang Qianqian knew that. Xu Jing was offering her a kind of absolution. She was offering freedom from guilt and permission to simply exist without the weight of reciprocation.
But comfort didn't come to her.
Instead, those gentle words only served to highlight everything that was wrong with their situation. Xu Jing was willing to give everything she possessed. Xu Jing asked for absolutely nothing in return. Xu Jing would accept the smallest scraps of affection; she would call those meager scraps a feast because her love was so vast and so desperate that any attention, any fleeting warmth, or any shared moment was enough to sustain her soul.
"That isn't love," Yang Qianqian thought as she listened to the rhythmic thrum of the other girl's pulse. "That's starvation. She is starving and I'm feeding her crumbs and calling it a meal."
And yet.
And yet she couldn't find the strength to push her away. She couldn't refuse the embrace. This was because Xu Jing's tenderness filled a void deep inside her. It filled something that had been hollow and aching since her brother's attention had first begun to drift, since his harem had expanded to include so many others, and since the moment she realized she would never truly be enough for him.
"I'm using her warmth to replace his." Yang Qianqian admitted the truth to herself in the silence of the room. The realization twisted in her gut, sharp and sickening. "I'm doing exactly what I accused that woman of doing. I'm taking comfort from someone who loves me while my heart still belongs to someone else."
"You don't have to understand. You just have to stay."
The words hung in the humid air between them, heavy with the weight of everything they left unsaid.
Yang Qianqian's tears fell faster now, dampening the skin of Xu Jing's shoulder. She knew, even as Xu Jing spoke the word, that "stay" meant two entirely different things to each of them. To Xu Jing, it meant an eternity of devotion. To Yang Qianqian, it meant... she didn't know what it meant. And that agonizing uncertainty was its own kind of betrayal.
"I really am terrible," she thought, her fingers curling into the sheets. "I really, really am."
But she didn't pull away. She couldn't pull away from the contact. The warmth was too precious and too necessary for her survival right now, even if it came with a heavy guilt wrapped around it like a crown of thorns.
So she lay there in the dark, held in the arms of the girl who loved her completely, and she cried silently for everything she knew she couldn't give in return.
And Xu Jing held her through every sob, knowing exactly what those tears meant. She understood the grief behind them, and she chose—she always chose—to hold on anyway.
When the night finally began to settle, when the last tremors of their passion faded and their breathing slowly returned from ragged gasps to a quiet rhythm, Xu Jing didn't move away.
She couldn't bring herself to break the contact.
Instead, she gathered Yang Qianqian into her arms with a tenderness that seemed almost impossible from someone who had, moments ago, been so thoroughly undone. She pulled her close. She pressed Yang Qianqian's head against her chest and held her as if she were the most precious treasure in her entire existence.
Yang Qianqian's ear rested directly over Xu Jing's heart. Its rhythm was steady at first, a simple pulse against her skin. But as the seconds passed in the moonlight, she felt it quicken. Then it slowed again. Then it quickened once more. It was as if Xu Jing's heart didn't know whether to celebrate the closeness or mourn the inevitable end.
"It's beating for me," Yang Qianqian realized. The sound was a dull, constant thud. "All of her is here, right now, beating for me."
The thought should have been comforting. Instead, it pressed against her chest like a physical weight, making it hard to breathe.
Xu Jing's arms surrounded her completely. One arm was tucked beneath her neck, while the other was draped across her waist, her hand splayed against her lower back. Her fingers traced idle, wandering patterns on Yang Qianqian's skin. The touch was feather-light, as if she couldn't stop herself from touching her even in their stillness. Her lips rested against the top of Yang Qianqian's head, her breath warm and steady in her hair.
The embrace was fierce. It was protective. And beneath all of that, it was profoundly desperate.
"She is holding on like I might disappear," Yang Qianqian thought. Her body felt small and fragile in the other girl's grip. "Like if she loosens her grip even slightly, I will vanish into the air."
She wasn't entirely wrong.
Xu Jing's mind churned beneath her calm, expressionless exterior. "This moment. I must remember this. I must remember the weight of her. I must remember the warmth. I must remember the way her skin smells—like moonlight and something sweeter. I must remember it for later, for when she is gone, for when I'm alone again and this is all I have."
Because she would be alone again. Xu Jing knew this with the same absolute certainty she knew her own name. Yang Qianqian's heart didn't belong to her. It never would. In this world, this cruel and predetermined world of harem logic and fixed, ink-stained loyalties, Yang Qianqian would always love her brother.
Even if he became a terrible person. Even if he hurt her until she could no longer stand. Even if he proved himself unworthy a thousand times over in the cold light of day. Yang Qianqian would make excuses for him. She would believe he had been 'temporarily tempted by that awful woman' and would wait patiently for him to return to her side. That was her role. It was her function. It was the unchangeable truth of her existence in this manga world.
And Xu Jing? What was her role?
She was the blackened one. She was the one who loved too much and too darkly in the corners of the panels. She was the one who schemed and manipulated and destroyed everything in her path, all for the sake of a heart that would never fully be hers.
"But she is here now," Xu Jing reminded herself fiercely, her mind clutching at the present moment. "She is in my arms now. Her skin is warm against mine. Her breath is soft against my chest, rhythmic and real. This is real. This happened. No one can take this moment from me."
She tightened her embrace just slightly, her fingers curling against the silk of Qianqian's skin. Yang Qianqian shifted. She pressed closer in response, doing so instinctively and unconsciously, like a sleeper seeking warmth in a cold room. The movement sent a sharp, jagged ache through Xu Jing's chest that was so sudden she nearly gasped aloud.
"She doesn't even realize she does that," Xu Jing thought. She watched the way Qianqian's eyelashes brushed against her skin. "She doesn't know how much it means. She doesn't know how every tiny movement she makes toward me feels like a precious gift I don't deserve."
Then, after a long pause that stretched out in the silver moonlight, Xu Jing spoke. "Do you pity me?"
The question was so unexpected that Yang Qianqian lifted her head. She blinked in confusion, her eyes wide. "Eh?"
Xu Jing's dark eyes held hers, searching for an answer she already knew. There was something there. It was a faint trace of sorrowful amusement, like a flicker of sunlight trying to break through thick clouds that had long since given up on clearing.
"I'm joking," Xu Jing said, her voice a low whisper. But the amusement flickered and died, unstable and fragile. "I'm not asking for more."
She pulled Yang Qianqian back into an embrace before any response could form. Her lips brushed her forehead. It was a gesture of absolution and of forgiveness for sins Yang Qianqian hadn't even fully confessed yet.
But as Xu Jing's face pressed into her hair, hidden from the other girl's view, the amusement faded entirely. The shadows of the room seemed to deepen.
In the darkness behind her closed eyes, Xu Jing's blackened heart spoke a truth she would never say aloud.
"You do pity me. I see it in your eyes when you think I'm not looking. You feel guilty, and guilt feels like pity, and pity feels like love if you are desperate enough to pretend it's something else.
But I'm not pretending. I know exactly what this is.
You are in my arms. You let me love you. You let me touch you, taste you, and fill myself with you. And tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that, you will go back to him. You will smile at him the way you smile at me, except your eyes will be different. They will be his in a way they will never be mine.
And I will let you go.
Because that's what loving you means. It means holding on when I can and letting go when I must. It means knowing you are a victory I didn't win and a defeat I can't escape.
You are in my arms, Qianqian. That's enough.
It has to be enough."
The silver moonlight held steady, shining through the gaps in the thin, dusty curtains and casting pale bars across the floor. The rented room remained quiet, the air heavy with the scent of their shared warmth. The two girls held each other in intimacy's heavy aftermath, their bodies intertwined in a lover's knot while their hearts were spinning in separate orbits around the same impossible, distant sun.
Whenever Su Li drew the scenes between Xu Jing and Yang Qianqian, she felt incredibly inspired, her focus narrowing until the studio walls seemed to disappear. Her entire body burned with a feverish excitement that seemed to radiate from her very skin. Her wrist ached from her strokes' feverish fervor, the ink staining the paper in sharp, elegant lines as if she were bleeding her soul onto the page.
She even thought that if a girl like Xu Jing truly existed in reality, she would treasure her no matter what. She would never treat her merely as a substitute for someone else the way Yang Qianqian did in the manga. Xu Jing's character's emotional depth, her unyielding love, and her quiet suffering mirrored Su Li's own artistic passion; it was a catharsis on paper.
Wait.
If she kept drawing like this, how was Pure Love supposed to reach a happy ending? The harem's resolution traditionally demanded unity under Yang Ming, but Xu Jing's arc veered sharply into tragedy. It was a path that defied every convention of the harem genre.
Su Li looked at the masterpiece she loved most with a sense of deep satisfaction, yet her expression was as complicated as if she had just eaten something awful. Well, since she had already swallowed it, then the readers might as well try a bite too. They should tolerate her relentless artistic pursuit for a moment. At a time like this, how could she possibly worry about the readers' feelings?
She could no longer control her pen.
No matter what happened, she would keep drawing this way, following the ink wherever it led.
She did it for Xu Jing's sake, as she had already fallen deeply in love with her.
As the night deepened in the love hotel, Xu Jing traced idle patterns on Yang Qianqian's back. Her touch lingered.
===
Yeah, so like you probably already figured out, I ended up expanding this chapter. A lot.
In the original version, the scene between Xu Jing and Yang Qianqian is basically a straight-up homage/replica of that one painful episode from Kuzu no Honkai (Scum's Wish). You know the part where Hanabi basically uses her best friend-Ecchan feelings to try and numb the pain of losing her "brother" (well, the guy she's obsessed with who's basically a brother figure in her head)
When I first watched that scene it hurt so bad, like someone literally stabbed me in the chest. But at the same time… there was this weird satisfaction mixed in? Like it was heartbreaking and cathartic all at once. Feelings are so messy and complicated, man.
Normally in the anime Hanabi hooks up with Mugi (the male classmate who's in love with his own teacher crush) and they just use each other's bodies to cope. They pretend the other person is the one they actually want, trying to drown out the frustration and rejection.
Quick context to make it clearer:
Let's call the guy Hanabi's in love with "Teacher B" (the male teacher she's obsessed with).
Mugi's in love with "Teacher A" (the female teacher who ends up "stealing" or seducing Teacher B away from Hanabi).
So both Hanabi and Mugi are left heartbroken and angry, and they start sleeping together as a way to vent. They imagine the other person is actually their real crush while they are doing it.
That's the vibe they were going for in the original manga chapter too—Xu Jing stepping into that same role, letting Yang Qianqian use her to try and fill the void left by Gege / Yang Ming. It's messy, it's sad, it's a little toxic… but it hits hard emotionally.
Anyway, that's why I leaned into the emotional beats so much when expanding it. Wanted to keep that same stabbing-in-the-heart + weirdly satisfying feeling.
