Chapter 216 - Chapter 216

In the 60th minute, Lopetegui made a double substitution.

"Sevilla are making changes," Palmer announced. "Youssef En-Nesyri comes on for Lucas Ocampos, while Suso replaces Munir El Haddadi!"

"Both of these players bring serious impact," Gibson observed. "En-Nesyri is a fantastic athlete with great presence, and Suso is a brilliant dribbler. It looks like Lopetegui wants to go toe-to-toe with Madrid on the floor now."

Once the match resumed, the two substitutes immediately made their presence felt.

In the 61st minute, Rakitić played the ball to Suso on the right wing. Suso, heavily left-footed, looked to cut inside.

The player matched up against him was Ferland Mendy.

The moment Mendy rushed out, Suso pushed the ball toward the outside line, feinting a sprint down the flank. Mendy instantly shifted his weight to track the run.

The next second, Suso violently chopped the ball back inside.

His movement was so sharp that Mendy was left entirely flat-footed.

In an instant, Suso broke free and arrived near the edge of the penalty area.

But at that moment, Theodore Bjorn materialized in front of him.

As the strongest one-on-one defender on the pitch, Theodore did not give Suso an inch.

He took the initiative, driving his massive frame into Suso while simultaneously stabbing his right foot out to cleanly knock the ball away.

Bang!

The loose ball rolled into the middle, where Toni Kroos successfully took control.

At the same time, Madrid's front three burst forward on the counter. Vinícius, Benzema, and Rodrygo sprinted toward Sevilla's penalty area.

All Toni Kroos needed to do was execute a simple forward pass to trigger a devastating break.

But just as Kroos was about to pass, Rakitić anticipated the play, stretched out his right foot, and successfully intercepted the ball before the German could release it.

Possession returned to Sevilla instantly.

Rakitić carried the ball forward, but he had only taken three touches when Modrić charged in aggressively from the side.

Modrić crashed into his compatriot, knocking Rakitić down from behind.

Peep!

The referee blew for a foul. Sevilla were awarded a free-kick, though it was quite far from goal.

A direct shot was highly unlikely.

The player standing over the ball was Rakitić. A few seconds later, he lofted the ball into the penalty area.

Theodore was tightly marking Luuk de Jong. Rakitić clearly understood that throwing the ball near Theodore was pointless, so this time, he aimed for the far post.

That was where the substitute, Youssef En-Nesyri, was lurking.

For Real Madrid, the player responsible for marking En-Nesyri was Nacho.

Unfortunately, Nacho failed to match the Moroccan's leap.

At the far post, En-Nesyri fully displayed his incredible vertical jump, powering a heavy header down toward the goal.

The ball bounced awkwardly and flew into the Real Madrid net.

Courtois reacted a fraction too late.

3–3!

"SEVILLA EQUALIZE AGAIN!" Palmer roared. "And this time, the scorer is the substitute, Youssef En-Nesyri!"

"Lopetegui's substitution has worked instantly!"

En-Nesyri's header completely ignited the stadium.

More than forty thousand Sevilla fans waved their fists in the stands, releasing a deafening roar.

En-Nesyri sprinted to the corner flag and executed a massive knee-slide.

On the global live comment feeds, Real Madrid fans were despondent.

"They conceded AGAIN! Is this really Real Madrid?"

"Nacho got completely destroyed by En-Nesyri there."

"Other than Theodore, every Madrid player is having an awful game tonight."

"Watching this defense is physically painful."

...

After Sevilla's goal, dark clouds suddenly gathered overhead.

Before long, heavy rain began pouring down over the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, accompanied by flashing lightning and rumbling thunder.

For the final twenty minutes, the match would be played in a torrential downpour.

In the 67th minute, Real Madrid began pushing forward in numbers.

As for Sevilla, having secured the equalizer, every player dropped back into a rigid defensive structure.

Lopetegui had parked the bus. For Sevilla, securing a point against the league leaders was an excellent result.

This time, after Modrić received the ball, he immediately passed it to Theodore.

Madrid wanted to rely entirely on Theodore's individual brilliance to break the deadlock.

However, Lopetegui had anticipated this. He had specifically instructed midfielder Joan Jordán to man-mark Theodore relentlessly.

Sure enough, the absolute second Theodore received Modrić's pass, Jordán rushed tightly into his face, attempting to block his path forward.

Just as Theodore Bjorn prepared to break through, another Sevilla midfielder stepped in his path.

Ivan Rakitić and Joan Jordán pressed Theodore together.

Seeing the double-team close the space, Theodore changed his mind about forcing the dribble.

He laid the ball back to Luka Modrić.

With no one marking him, Modrić played the ball wide to Vinícius Jr.

However, the rain was getting heavier. Water had begun pooling on the pitch at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, slowing the ball as it rolled across the grass.

Before the pass could reach Vinícius, Fernando intercepted it.

The Sevilla midfielder launched the ball forward.

It dropped toward Luuk de Jong.

Near the edge of the Real Madrid penalty area, De Jong beat Raphaël Varane to the first contact and flicked the ball into the path of Youssef En-Nesyri.

Nacho failed to close En-Nesyri down, giving the striker space to shoot.

Bang!

A clean strike sent the ball toward the corner of the Real Madrid goal.

En-Nesyri's effort was quick, leaving Thibaut Courtois caught off guard. The goalkeeper could only watch as the ball found the net!

4–3!

"Four-three!" Rob Palmer called out in the broadcast booth. "Sevilla have completed a comeback at home! En-Nesyri is the hero for Sevilla!"

The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán erupted. Sevilla fans rose from their seats, waving their fists.

En-Nesyri's name echoed around the stadium as every Sevilla player rushed toward him to celebrate.

On the global live comment feeds, Real Madrid fans attacked the performance of their defenders.

"Why wasn't Nacho marking anyone?"

"Nacho didn't even move when En-Nesyri was shooting!"

"Sevilla actually took the lead?"

"Madrid might lose this. Sevilla's momentum is too strong, and Madrid's defense can't hold!"

"Madrid have developed Theodore-dependence! Every player wants Theodore to solve the problem. How can a team keep winning like this?"

On the Real Madrid bench, Zinedine Zidane discussed substitutions with his assistant coaches.

He knew he had to send on fresh legs.

In the 70th minute, Eden Hazard, Casemiro, and Martin Ødegaard came on, replacing Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, and Vinícius.

Casemiro moved into midfield, and Ødegaard took Theodore's position.

Theodore pushed up into the forward line, and Hazard slotted in on the wing.

Real Madrid's formation remained a 4-3-3.

Theodore returned to the striker role.

Zidane was placing Madrid's attacking hopes on him.

After the restart, the Madrid players still struggled, their midfield lost control.

The trio of Modrić, Casemiro, and Ødegaard could not withstand Sevilla's pressure.

Possession was lost again, though Sevilla failed to turn it into a counterattack.

Time ticked away.

The rain grew heavier, and the standing water on the pitch became a serious issue. This caused problems for Madrid's ground passing.

"The match has reached the 75th minute, and Zidane's substitutions haven't had much effect," Terry Gibson noted.

"After Theodore moved to the forward line, he has been isolated. Madrid need to get the ball to him."

Under Sevilla's pressing, Madrid's players could not find an opening.

Regulation time reached the 80th minute.

Theodore stopped waiting up front and took the initiative.

In the 82nd minute, he dropped back into midfield. Ødegaard passed the ball to him.

Theodore had his back to goal. As he received the ball, Sevilla's players rushed toward him.

Suso, En-Nesyri, and Fernando converged from behind.

Theodore reacted.

He knocked the ball toward the flank. With one touch from his right foot, he used his pace and forced his way around the outside.

With a burst of acceleration, Theodore broke free. None of the three players could match his speed.

Theodore cut inside.

His target was the Sevilla penalty area as he charged toward the edge of the box with pace.

The Sevilla box fell into panic.

If Theodore broke into the area, there was a high chance he would score.

As Theodore reached the edge of the box, center-backs Jules Koundé and Diego Carlos prepared to step out and challenge him.

Before the two center-backs could close the distance, Theodore swung his right leg.

Bang!

The ball skimmed across the wet grass, shooting through the gap between Koundé and Diego Carlos.

It flew toward the corner of the Sevilla goal!

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had no time to react.

He stared at the ball in the net, his face showing despair.

The stadium fell silent, leaving only the cheers of the traveling Real Madrid fans.

4–4!

"Theodore!" Palmer shouted. "Four goals! Theodore has saved Real Madrid again! His long-range strike beats Bounou! The score is four-four!"

As Palmer called Theodore's name, the global comment feeds moved rapidly.

Real Madrid fans were satisfied with the equalizer!
