Chapter 6 - A New School, A New Fear

In the end, Mukesh's parents made a decision.

They decided to change his school.

By that time, his eldest brother Abhi had already reached Class 8. Things were different for him now. But for Mukesh and his second elder brother Nagesh, the journey had to start again.

Once again, they were sent to a boarding school.

But this time… it was a different place.

A different environment.

A different kind of fear.

---

On the day of admission, something unexpected happened.

Usually, parents fill out the admission forms.

But here…

the teachers directly handed the forms to Mukesh and Nagesh.

"Fill it yourselves," one of the teachers said.

Nagesh immediately started writing. He filled most of the form confidently.

But Mukesh…

stood still.

His hands froze.

His eyes stayed fixed on the paper.

---

Fear had already taken over him.

What if I make a mistake…?

What if they hit me again…?

Even writing his own name felt difficult.

His fingers trembled.

He couldn't move.

---

The head teacher noticed.

He walked toward them, took the papers from their hands, and looked at Mukesh for a moment.

Then he turned to their mother.

His voice was calm, but the words were heavy.

"Your younger son… will have to start from the beginning."

A pause.

"We will put him in UKG class."

Mukesh lowered his head.

"And your elder son," the teacher continued,

"will need to repeat in Class 4."

---

Those words hit harder than any slap.

Starting from the beginning.

Again.

---

From that day on, Mukesh changed.

He became quieter than before.

He rarely smiled.

He stopped laughing completely.

There was always a shadow on his face.

---

His mother noticed.

Every day.

"Why doesn't he smile anymore…?" she would say softly.

Her worry grew with time.

---

But someone was watching him closely.

His elder brother, Abhi.

---

One evening, after school, Abhi sat beside Mukesh.

He looked at him seriously.

"Listen," Abhi said,

"living in fear is also a kind of life… but you can't stay like this forever."

Mukesh stayed silent.

Abhi continued,

"You can't keep being scared all the time."

"Try to reduce your fear… just a little."

"Look at your life properly."

---

Then Abhi gave him a few simple questions.

"Try solving these," he said.

Mukesh hesitated at first.

But then…

he tried.

---

Something unexpected happened.

He solved every single question.

All of them.

In one go.

---

Abhi's eyes widened.

Without wasting a second, he ran toward their mother.

"Mom!" he shouted.

"Come and see this!"

Their mother came quickly.

Abhi pointed at Mukesh.

"Look at him… Mukesh is actually very intelligent!"

---

For the first time…

something changed.

Not in Mukesh.

But in the way others saw him.

---

From that day, his family started having expectations from him.

Hope.

Belief.

Something they never showed before.

---

Meanwhile, life in the village continued.

Mukesh's village had around fourteen families.

But in reality…

they were all connected.

Cousins, brothers, uncles, aunts, sisters—

all part of the same bloodline.

---

Mukesh's father had one younger brother.

And several sisters, most of whom were already married and living in their own homes.

But two of them still lived in the same house.

---

The house itself was big.

Three floors.

The top floor was for cooking.

The middle floor had three rooms.

The ground floor also had three rooms—

and one of them was used for keeping buffaloes and cows.

---

But inside that house…

peace didn't last long.

---

One day, a serious argument broke out.

Between Mukesh's mother… and his uncle's wife.

Voices grew louder.

Anger filled the air.

---

"You think this house belongs only to you?" the uncle's wife shouted.

Mukesh's mother replied sharply,

"And you think you can talk to me like this?"

The argument escalated.

Words turned into accusations.

Old issues came out.

Hidden frustrations surfaced.

---

"We've tolerated enough!"

"Then don't stay here!"

---

Mukesh stood in a corner.

Silent.

Watching everything.

---

That day…

the house divided.

---

His uncle's family moved to a separate place.

Even though they lived close by…

something had already broken.

---

And Mukesh…

stood there quietly.

---

Because no matter where he went—

school or home—

there was always something the same.

Noise outside.

Silence inside.

---

And slowly…

that silence was turning into something deeper.

Something that didn't need a voice.

Something that would one day become—

his story.
