Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Descent of the Unseen

The sky did not crack anymore.

It tore open.

What once was a fracture—

became a wound.

The heavens above Solmire split apart like fabric—

light bending unnaturally—

darkness spilling through the tear.

Not night.

Not shadow.

Something deeper.

Black particles began to fall—

slow at first—

like ash drifting from a distant fire.

Then faster.

Then heavier.

They touched rooftops—

and the stone beneath aged.

Cracked.

Weakened.

A bell tower—

one of the oldest in the capital—

collapsed silently—

as if time itself had been taken from it.

Across the kingdom—

everyone stopped.

Knights.

Civilians.

Even the monsters.

Because for the first time—

fear was not coming from the ground.

It was coming from above.

Then—

movement returned.

Mira Dane landed hard—

her spear of light forming instantly—

cutting through a charging beast in a single thrust.

"Don't look at the sky!" she shouted. "Focus on your surroundings!"

A young knight hesitated—

glancing upward—

fear freezing him in place—

The creature lunged—

A flash of light pierced through its skull.

Mira stood in front of him—

unmoving—

"If you stop—"

She pulled her spear free—

blood evaporating in light—

"…you die."

Behind her—

Golden Lions formed a line—

pushing forward—

forcing the monsters back street by street.

But even they—

felt it.

That pressure.

That presence.

High above—

Aeron Skyvale flew—

wings of wind slicing through the distorted air.

"…Yeah, that's not normal."

Lyra darted beside him—

sonic bursts trailing her movement.

"Orders?!"

Aeron exhaled—

eyes locked on the torn sky.

"We keep the air clear."

"Of what exactly—?!"

He smirked—

but it didn't reach his eyes.

"…Anything that falls."

As if answering him—

a massive chunk of distorted aether—

half-solid, half-liquid—

began descending from the tear.

"…Yeah. That."

They shot forward—

wind and sound colliding—

intercepting it mid-air—

EXPLOSION IN THE SKY

The impact shook the entire capital.

Darius tore through a warped alley—

his claws slicing cleanly through two beasts at once.

Selene moved behind him—

eyes glowing faintly—

tracking not bodies—

but intent.

"…They're not hunting randomly."

"Yeah?" Darius growled.

She turned slightly—

gaze sharp.

"…They're being guided."

A pause.

Darius smirked—

darkly.

"…Good."

He stepped forward—

cracking his knuckles—

"…Means we've got something to kill."

In the heart of the capital—

Seraphine stood surrounded by wounded.

Her hands glowed—

flowers of light blooming across shattered bodies—

closing wounds—

restoring breath—

fighting death itself.

"Stay with me… just a little longer…"

Noel moved beside her—

threads of aether forming barriers—

deflecting falling debris—

shielding dozens at once.

A tremor hit—

stronger than before—

A building began to fall toward them.

Noel's eyes widened—

"Captain—!"

Seraphine didn't turn.

She raised one hand.

A massive bloom of sacred aether erupted upward—

catching the entire structure mid-collapse—

holding it—

Cracks formed across her aura—

but she didn't let it fall.

"…No one else dies here."

Brakus roared—

both arms raised—

holding an entire section of broken roadway above a group of civilians.

"MOVE—MOVE—MOVE—!"

Talia slammed her hammer into the ground—

shockwaves stabilizing the collapsing terrain—

"Hurry it up!"

A child stumbled—

falling—

Brakus shifted—

just slightly—

The entire structure trembled—

almost collapsing—

But he held.

Veins bulging.

Armor cracking.

"…I said MOVE!"

They ran.

Just in time.

The structure collapsed the second they cleared.

Brakus dropped to one knee—

breathing heavy—

then laughed.

"…Still standing."

Deep within a shattered observatory—

Orion stood beneath the broken ceiling—

eyes glowing with constellations.

Symbols floated around him—

rotating—

analyzing—

decoding.

Elise traced runes along the ground—

locking unstable aether patterns in place.

"…This isn't just an attack," she said.

Orion's gaze lifted toward the sky tear.

"…No."

A pause.

His voice lowered.

"…It's a signal."

Elise froze.

"…To what?"

Orion didn't answer immediately.

Because for the first time—

even he—

was uncertain.

Back at the ruined palace—

Rein stepped forward.

Nysera's form stabilized—

her body clearer now—

though still shifting at the edges—

like a dream refusing to fully solidify.

Her eyes locked onto him.

"…You weren't supposed to wake up this soon."

Rein's cards formed around him—

glowing—

spinning slowly.

"…You chose the wrong kingdom."

The air between them tightened.

Reality trembled.

Elsewhere—

Sora stood before Rose—

but she was no longer the same.

Her form had changed—

further—

deeper—

Black aether wrapped around her like armor—

her limbs sharper—

her presence heavier—

But her eyes—

still fighting.

Still there.

"…MAKE IT STOP—!"

Her scream tore through the battlefield.

Sora stepped forward—

flames rising around him—

stronger than ever—

"…Then fight it."

The phoenix roared—

not wild—

not chaotic—

Focused.

Relentless.

Leonhart stood.

Inside a field that bent reality itself.

Gravity pressed down—

crushing—

tearing—

Drogan stepped forward—

calm—

unshaken.

"…This ends now."

Leonhart laughed—

blood dripping from his chin.

"You've been saying that for a while now."

He stepped forward.

Inside the pressure.

Against the world.

Flames ignited—

denser—

heavier—

burning even under gravity.

"…I don't fall that easy."

Above them all—

the tear widened.

The shadow behind it—

shifted.

Moved.

Something massive—

ancient—

unseen—

Watching.

Waiting.

And now—

descending.

Rose screamed—

her voice breaking—

Then changing.

Not fully hers.

Not fully anything human.

"…FOUND… YOU…"

Everything stopped.

For just a moment.

Sora froze.

Rein looked up.

Leonhart's grin faded—

just slightly.

Even Nysera's eyes widened.

Because that voice—

was not hers.

And the thing in the sky—

moved.
