As Mrs. Woods and Sonia prepared Amara for the evening banquet, the atmosphere inside her chambers was far busier than usual.
Sonia stood behind her chair, carefully arranging the final touches to her hair, while Mrs. Woods supervised everything with the seriousness of a general preparing for battle.
"Hurry, hurry," Mrs. Woods muttered. "We don't want to keep His Highness waiting."
Amara, who had been patiently allowing Sonia to fasten a necklace around her neck, immediately looked up.
"His Highness?"
Mrs. Woods paused. "Yes."
"What?" Amara blinked. "He is attending tonight?"
There was obvious surprise in her voice. After everything that had happened, she had assumed Alexander would remain in his residence.
Mrs. Woods smiled faintly. "If he doesn't attend, people will talk."
Amara frowned slightly. 'If he doesn't attend, people will talk? What is that supposed to mean?'
