Chapter 3 - Flame On

The first year of my second life passed very slowly; I will spare you the early months as I will say only this once: being a newborn with an adult mind is an experience I would not recommend to anyone, and I do not plan to discuss it further.

By the time I was five months old, I had figured out my full name and my parents' names as well. My name was Izanagi Kurosawa. My mother was Satsuki. My father was Ryota, and we lived in a mansion in Naruhata, Japan. The reason why we are so well off is that Ryota owns a massive private security firm. It was honestly so sweet having the softest pillows and blankets. I thank Zagrues for giving me a chance to be reborn into a rich family.

Satsuki had long scarlet hair and maroon eyes that matched my own, while I had fair skin and very short, wavy black hair. Ryota, on the other hand, had chin-length straight black hair that fell partially across the front of his face and dark brown eyes; he was also very built.

I started crawling around nine months, exploring the mansion. The mansion was large enough that it took several weeks of crawling to fully map it out. Ryota's gym was on the ground floor, and both Satuski and Ryota trained there every morning before I was awake, or so I assumed, as I've never seen them personally work out. I've seen them come out of the gym almost daily, completely drenched in sweat.

During one of my crawling adventures, I stumbled upon a door. I tried to push it open, as the door handle was too high for me to reach, but then suddenly I got picked up by Ryota. I made some baby sounds, trying to talk, and pointed at the door, trying to get him to open it.

"Nothing for you to worry about," Ryota said as he carried me back down the corridor without elaborating. I looked back at the door over his shoulder until he set me down in the living room and walked away.

'What is he hiding behind that door?' I thought.

Fast-forward two months, and I had constanly check the door, but it always remained closed. I even bothered them about it, but they never budged. I was in the living room one day while Satsuki was nearby, looking at her current case, which was spread out in front of her: photographs, handwritten notes, and a printed map with three locations circled in red ink. I had figured out that she was some type of private investigator.

As I watched her work, I suddenly blurted out her name.

"Satsuki."

She went still and looked up at me.

"Huh," she said, then she turned back to her photographs like she didn't just witness her son's first words.

'She's weird.'

---

I started walking at around fifteen months. It was a struggle at first, with me constantly falling, but eventually I got the hang of it and was able to walk without falling. Satsuki watched me from the kitchen doorway with her coffee and said nothing, which was the same for Ryota, who looked up from whatever he was reading, watched me walked then looked down.

'So they're both weird, aren't parents supposed to go all lovey dovy once their baby starts walking or talking, but I can't complain, who would want kisses from strangers after all.'

By the time I turned two, my hair had grown past my ears, and the tips had started going red. Not long after that, they took me for a walk outside for the first time. As I walked, I observed Naruhata. It was very clean, almost spotless even; I didn't even spot one piece of trash on the floor.

The area we were in was very wealthy, with other mansions lined up. It was a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively, compared to my old world. Then I saw what I could only describe as a monster. It was some type of thing, a large rock-like human.

'Wow, in the manga the mutant didn't look this ugly, it's honestly horrifying to see.'

Days like this went by in a blink of an eye, there was really nothing I could do except sleep, eat, and shit, the only thing I was looking foward too was getting my quirk, and due to this I noticed something strange.

I have never seen Ryota or Satsuki use their quirk before, at first I chalked it up to there being no reason for them to use their quirk, but as months went by, doubt started creeping in.

'What if they're quirkless?'

It would make sense why I've never seen them use their quirk or even talk about anything relating to a quirk. This was very bad. If they were quirkless, I have a 99.9 percent chance of being quirkless too.

Sure, I enjoy this new world, and I'm technically going to be rich, but being rich doesn't compare to having literal superpowers. If that were the case, I would have been better off just going to heaven. Thankfully, my worries were for naught, as a couple of weeks after I turned four, I got a fever.

"Ryota, it's way too high," Satuski said, reading the thermometer that was in my mouth while I lay on my bed.

"What does it read?" Ryota asked, slightly behind Satuski.

"400 Celsius."

Five minutes later, we were in the car, as Ryota sped towards the hospital. Satsuki was half turned in the passenger seat. She had been checking on me every few seconds since we left.

"It's going to be okay, baby," Satuki said as she turned back around.

'Huh, that's the first time she called me baby.'

Suddenly, I felt a massive headache and groaned in pain.

"Izanagi. What's wrong?" Satsuki asked in worry.

I opened my mouth, but then I burst into flames as the backseats caught on fire. Ryota and Satuski turned around in horror. Ryota quickly stopped the car, and both he and Satuski got out of the car as it exploded in flames.

People on the sidewalk stopped and stared in shock as multiple cars behind Ryota's car pulled over or sped off. People shouted, calling for help as others ran over to check what was going on.
