Kael's eyes snapped open, but the boy they knew was gone. His irises had vanished entirely, replaced by an absolute, swallowing darkness—like staring directly into the violent collapse of a dying multiverse. A sharp, terrifying grin carved its way across his face as his gaze locked onto Vajr.
Dark crimson blood began to leak from his features, tracking grimly down from his eyes, his nose, and his ears.
"Cursed spirits," Kael murmured. His voice no longer belonged to him; it echoed with an eerie, layered resonance that vibrated through the stone walls.
He raised his right hand. Instantly, a violent, swirling torrent of magic enveloped his arm, whipping around his forearm like a localized tempest."Infinity," he whispered.
Then, he raised his left hand. A dense, pitch-black shroud of energy cloaked his fist, crackling with volatile, snapping currents of violet lightning.
Watching from the sidelines, Sara's voice trembled, breaking the heavy silence. "Vajr is terrified... for the very first time."
Kael tilted his head, his unnatural smile widening. When he spoke, the weight of something ancient and terrible pressed down on the room. "So, your strategic side finally awakens."
"Yes..." Sara whispered, instinctively taking a step back.
With a dark smirk, Kael brought his glowing hands together. "Merge."
The two opposing forces collided, violently destabilizing as they forced themselves into a single entity. A blinding, paradoxical light erupted from the fusion. As the glare faded, five towering, ghastly silhouettes materialized out of the smoke, looming directly behind Kael.
Vajr's eyes widened, his defensive posture tightening as his instincts screamed at him to flee. "Who...what are they?"
"Cursed spirits," Kael mocked, clearly relishing the raw terror he was inspiring.
"Why are you messing with me?!" Vajr demanded, his panic bleeding through his angry facade.
Kael's smile vanished, replaced by a cold, dead stare. "They are spirits born of pure cursed energy. And I am using Infinity itself as the catalyst to fuel them."
Vajr stared at the horrific sight, his eyes tracking the fresh blood still pouring down his opponent's face. "Then why is your face bleeding like that? If you're so invincible, why are you breaking?"
Kael let out a heavy, annoyed sigh, wiping a streak of crimson from his lip. He looked down at his stained fingers with mild irritation. "Is this really the right time to be asking questions, Vajr?"
"I want the answer!" Vajr snapped, refusing to back down despite his trembling knees.
The terrifying aura around Kael suddenly settled into a freezing, suffocating calm. "This is the blood of Kael," he said softly, looking back up with those void-black eyes. "And I am not Kael. I am his true essence... The Broken Soul." He leveled a glare at the Devil King. "Enough questions. Kael's blood is precious to me."
Before Vajr could process the words, Kael blurred. He closed the distance instantly, his hand clamping around Vajr's neck like a vice, slamming him brutally into the dirt. Kael turned smoothly, idly brushing back his stark white hair, tilting his head with a mocking smirk.
Realizing the scale of the threat, Vrita roared, shifting into her massive Dragon form. She immediately deployed a massive, shimmering dragon's barrier to isolate the fallout of the battle.
Kael looked up at her, his grin returning. "So, you're finally going to use your full power."
Vrita didn't offer a single word, her golden dragon eyes locked onto him in tense silence. Kael knew exactly what she was anticipating.
Walking back toward the crater, Kael looked down at the battered tyrant. "Oh... the great Devil King is pinned under the rubble. Where is all that power you were boasting about?"
Vajr managed to raise his head, but before he could speak, the five cursed spirits descended upon him. A barrage of heavy, brutal punches rained down. Infused with Infinity and raw cursed elements, the sheer force of the onslaught forced the Devil King to his knees, utterly breaking his defense.
Kael raised a hand, signaling the spirits to halt. Vajr spat blood, looking up at him through a swollen eye. "Kael... is this your real form?"
"No," Kael smirked.
"Broken Soul, stop! He's going to use an Infinity Burst!" Sara warned from the edge of the barrier.
The Broken Soul barely glanced back. "Who cares? He's going to die anyway."
Kael grabbed Vajr by the throat, launching into the air. High above the cavern floor, he stared into the tyrant's fading eyes. "Your infinity has no end? Then let's see how you handle eternity."
He unleashed a barrage of brutal, devastating punches while holding Vajr aloft. Each strike was heavily laced with cursed energy, shattering bone and rupturing armor. By the time they stopped, Vajr was completely lifeless, his face unrecognizable beneath a mask of crimson. He was dead before they even hit the ground.
"Sara, catch Kael," The Broken Soul commanded, his voice fading. "I am relieving him."
Looking up at the sky one last time, he smiled. The dark horns receded into his brow, and the fractured, shadowy wings dissolved into ash. The void in his eyes washed away, returning to his natural, golden pupils.
As he fell completely unconscious, the Infinity room shattered like glass, and the ghastly spirits vanished into thin air. Sara manifested in her physical form, darting forward to catch Kael tightly before he hit the ground. He opened his eyes just a fraction, catching a glimpse of her holding him, his face entirely devoid of emotion before he collapsed completely in her arms.
When Kael finally opened his eyes again, the suffocating darkness of the battle was gone. Instead, he was met with the anxious faces of Vrita, Sara, Renjiro, and his parents.
A soft, exhausted smile touched Kael's lips, and a single tear slipped down his cheek. Seeing him wake, his mother, Elara, threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly as she broke out into heavy, uncontrollable tears.
"Mother..." Kael whispered, his voice weak but clear. "Now... everything is okay."
She held his face tightly in her trembling hands, trying desperately to control her sobbing.
Recognizing the family needed space, Vrita quietly gestured to the others. "We should give them some room. Let's go outside."
The group quietly filed out of the cave, leaving the family in peace. Outside, under the open sky, Vrita glanced over at Sara. "Are you crying?"
Sara quickly averted her gaze. "No."
Vrita stepped closer, gently reaching up to touch Sara's cheek, pulling her fingers away to show the moisture glistening on her skin. "Then what is this?"
Sara lowered her head, the composure she had fought so hard to maintain finally fracturing. "When I realized how special Kael's blood really was... I felt this suffocating weight in my chest. He isn't like us, Vrita. The burden he carries..." She looked down at the dirt, her voice barely a whisper. "Why do the gods always choose a mere human to break?"
Vrita offered a soft, sad smile, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Because humans are the only ones strong enough to survive it. We will save him, Sara. Together."
Inside the quiet cave, Elara still held Kael tightly, her voice cracking with emotion. "Don't... please don't ever leave me like that again."
Kael weakly reached up, gently stroking her hair. "You're safe now, Mother."
Adrian stepped forward, carefully picking up his exhausted son with a quiet, proud expression. "You've done enough, Kael. Now, you rest."
