Chapter 7 - My mother's sister

Part 1- Morning Routine

Once again...

My daily routine is the same as always.

My family gets up really early. I'm always the last one out of bed.

My father starts his day with a workout before making his rounds around the village's protective

barrier, searching for weak points or any low-ranking monsters that might have slipped inside.

They're too weak to be detected by the barrier, but still strong enough to harm the villagers.

The village hunters are more than just hunters.

My mother starts her day in the kitchen with Rulf. My brother has the strength to fight five grown men and still have enough energy to run a four-hundred-meter sprint.

And somehow...

He also has the hands of an angel when it comes to cooking.

Just like Father.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm really their son.

Walter inherited Mother's talent for magic...

And her beautiful face.

Pisses me off.

Rulf inherited Father's strength...

And his cooking skills.

Meanwhile...

My magic skills a nothing compared to Walter

I can't cook.

I'm nowhere near as strong as Father.

And I'm definitely not blessed with a handsome face.

Ahh…

This is some bullshit.

Walter is the only one who wakes up around the same time as me because he stays up all night studying magic.

Although...

He's been doing it even more these past few days.

I wonder why.

By the time I head downstairs, Rosalind is already here with Mother and Rulf in the kitchen.

Rosalind and Walter are both incredibly stubborn, so they don't really get along.

It's kind of ironic, considering they're both obsessed with magic and studying.

Thomas, on the other hand...

Walter gets along with him surprisingly well.

Some might even say better than he gets along with me.

As for Rulf...

Well, he gets along with everyone.

The more I think about it...

The more I realize Rulf is almost too perfect.

Oh boy...

He seriously needs some character development.

By the time I'm done with my morning chores, everybody has finished their chores as well.

Thomas and Rosalind's parents are like the village monitors or something…

They leave their house very early so Thomas and Rosalind always eat breakfast at my place.

Every morning feels like a happy ever after breakfast.

I hope that I don't get some crazy Isekai story line that involves fighting a demon lord or shit like that.

I enjoy this more than anything.

Part 2- Got More Crazy

"Rosalyn, what a surprise?"

Today started off the same.

But the air feels different…

Why?

My father is a very hard person to read.

But right now .

I can clearly see the anger and.

…Fear?

Why?

I looked toward Mother. She seemed calm, but...

Her hands were so...

Tense.

Why?

Who the hell is this person?

"Clifton... I never thought I'd find you here."

A woman's voice.

My chair was at the back, making it hard to see anybody standing at the door.

Being a kid didn't help either.

Mana carries more than just a person's power.

It carries their personality.

I still can't tell the difference between the two, but...

Everybody in the room could.

The person standing at the door was...

...trouble.

Rulf was gripping the butter knife so tightly that I thought it might snap.

I could hear Walter whispering an incantation under his breath...

Wait.

Rosalind too.

Thomas had completely frozen.

"What do you want here?"

I had never heard Mother's voice sound so cold before.

"Why are you being so rude, Elara?"

Huh?

She knows Mother's name.

"Little sister."

Little sister?

Wait...

What?

If she's Mother's older sister...

Then why is everyone so tense?

"Hel—"

Just as I was about to say hello...

Rulf covered my mouth.

"How did you find us?"

Mother asked.

But...

Why was Mother the one speaking?

Father was standing right in front of the woman.

"Do you truly believe I would waste my time searching for you...

...and the trash of a man you call your husband?"

CRACK!

Ah...

The door handle just...

Broke.

Damn, this man has an insane grip strength.

"Anyways, I'm not here on my own behalf.

I'm here on behalf of Lady Clarice."

Clarice?

Wait...

Isn't that the girl from yesterday?

Oh yeah.

I did tell her, she could come here if she wanted magic lessons from Mother.

"Who?"

Father finally spoke.

Before Rosalyn could answer, another voice came from behind her.

"Rosalyn, please stop being so rude. I'm truly sorry for her behavior."

The young girl stepped forward and bowed politely.

"Greetings. My name is Clarice Fitzroy of the Fitzroy family. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"My Lady, please don't bow before these people."

"Rosalyn."

Clarice's voice became firm.

"We're here to ask for their help. Please show them the respect they deserve."

"My Lady, that woman cannot refuse your request. Please stand."

"Rosalyn, just because she's your younger sister doesn't mean you can treat her like someone to use."

She looked directly at Rosalyn.

"Please apologize."

...

Oh.

Wow.

She's completely different from yesterday.

"Please forgive my rudeness and I hope you can find it in your heart to teach young Clarice magic."

Oh boy.

I can practically hear her tooth grinding against each other.

Oh yeah.

I have to say hi.

It's clear that Rulf won't let me go over there, so I'll have to sneak out.

He's a great hunter for his age, but he's still not perfect. Father trains Rulf every now and then,

and whenever they train together, Father always says that Rulf needs to work on his footwork.

The kid can't handle sharp turns. That's why they always place him at the back when they go

hunting.

So if I crawl under the table, I can get through.

First, I need to distract them by pushing my chair backward.

It's gonna hurt a lot.

I gently inhale...

Then I push my chair backward while covering my head with my hands so I don't hit it when I fall.

BOOM!

"Ivan!"

Thomas and Rulf both reach for me, but I maneuver my body just in time to avoid their hands.

Walter, Thomas, Rosalind, and Rulf all freeze for a moment.

And that's my chance.

Huh?

Mother didn't move at all.

This lady might be a bigger threat than I thought.

Oh man...

If I end up dying here just because I wanted to say hi, I'm going to be really pissed.

Ahem!

Up I go.

I quickly sneak a peek at Mom and...

She's shaking.

Frozen in place.

And I know those four behind me have already figured out my plan. They're just too scared to

make a move.

Oh shit.

Father's back is wide as hell, so I often find myself walking around him just to see what's on the other side.

But this time, a wavy white tail caught my attention before I could even see who it belonged to.

I slowly moved to the side as the person standing in front of Father came into view.

Once again, one body part stood out before anything else.

Cat ears?

Just as I was about to get a good look at the person, a bright flash forced my eyes shut.

The moment I opened them...

Sharp.

Long.

Claws.

They were only a few inches away from my face.

If Father hadn't caught her arm, my head would've been cleanly sliced off.

"Ivan!"

"Ivan!"

"Ivan!"

Father had the lady's wrist locked in one hand...

...and Rulf's in the other.

Mother had already cast a high-level cancellation spell to stop Rosalind's and Walter's magic.

Holy shit!

That wasn't a warning...

She actually tried to kill me.

"Why do you have That Thing?"
